1. Dear PBF, Say what you will, call us names, poke fun at us, its all good. Perhaps you secretly wish to be a comedian? Cause you sure do make us laugh. Oh, that would be at you dearie. No one takes you seriously now, you had a chance to state your position but chose to descend into insults and ignorance. Well, here's a little tip, we are SO over you. We have moved on...without you. I really don't care if you stay or go, I shall read what I wish and skip what I wish, I could care less about you and your pouting, look at me, take me seriously even though I'm a raving idiot behaviour. The blank wall behind my pc is more interesting than you. So do as you wish, perhaps you will be barred from here, perhaps not, makes no difference to some of us, we will just go on with our business and enjoy each others company and postings, some serious, some silly. Carry on Dogo!
2. Welcome to Dogo and congrats to you for getting your dog a rear end alignment!
3. courtnek, dontcha know, everytime i hear Puff, The Magic Dragon sung by Peter, Paul and Mary, I cry. Every damn time. Nonetheless, it is my favorite also.
4. I too have to agree with Goo on this one. I've seen the behaviours she mentioned in my dogs also. I've seen Candy pick up a tug toy and go rub it in Brittanys face to elicit a game. Like Goo, when Jesse was younger he could literally drag me off the couch if I tried playing tug with him. Now, I don't think playing tug and letting a submissive dog win now and then is a bad thing, far from it. I have seen Jesse light up just a bit as I let him win most of the time now, he's so much older that I could win most times if I wanted to.
5.
LMFAO   Carol! You made me spit my salad out!!
Sorry 'bout that! 8) I've been in a MOOD all day, guess I should take myself off to bed.
6. So am I to understand that Coal has been biting you and/or members of the family since he first came to you? Geez Shara, this should have been stopped right from the start. If Coal is still biting, there must be a payoff in it for him. You CANNOT continue to play or interact with him when he bites you. All play STOPS. You should say OW loudly but no yelling or screaming, all that will do is escalate the situation in his mind. Do you have a crate inside for Coal? While I don't like using a crate as punishment it is an option, just DON'T YELL, HIT OR THREATEN HIM. If you have a crate, he bites, oh dear playtime is over into the crate with you my love and you WALK AWAY. All done matter of fact, no hysterics, no fussing. Let HIM fuss all he wants, do not talk to him, no sympathy, no I told ya so's etc. After 10 minutes, let him out while you are calm. If he bites you again, back into the crate. Other things you might try. Does he bite you in the same place such as your hand, arm or GOD FORBID, your face? If he does, you might try using bitter apple on your skin or vicks, they both should taste nasty to him. You might also be able to teach him a bite command and therefore a no bite command. Try with a toy of his, start while he is fairly calm so is not out of control right from the start. Hold it out to him and tell him to bite it. If he does, praise him. Oh, does he have a leave it command? Use it if he does. If he will consistantly bite a toy 'on command', then teach him no bite. It will take a bit of time as he is young but he CAN be taught NO BITE. Praise and treat him when he seems to be getting it. Then when you are playing with him, you NEED to start seeing signs that he is getting to the point of a bite, even a play bite, and tell him NO BITE. Once he knows what this means, he should pause and look at you, if he does, praise him CALMLY. Shara, do NOT let this continue, it should not have been cute or acceptable when he was a baby and it sure won't be in an adult dog.
7. Eucalyptus (I think thats right) oil will help mask the scent. Another scent that would help in this way is I think camphor, like in Vicks Vapor Rub. It may not completely hide or mask the scent from a nearby male but it will help. Some show people will put a tiny dab of a strong scent on the top of a males nose in case there are females in season at the show. In conformation shows, it is allowable to show bitches in season. They want their male to pay attention to showing, not that cute girl over there who smells SO good. Most obedience and agility trials forbid bitches in season from competing.
8. Hm, do I want to be a teenager or a moron? Well, I'm too old to get away with the teenager gig so I guess I must be a MORON! Why yes, it has been a lifelong dream of mine, how did you know? MORONS UNTIE! er MORONS UNITE! :P
9.
Is anyone close enough to put a muzzle on Carol?..and if so do you dare???
Muzzle ala Hannibal Lector? 8) No not the muzzle PLEEEEESE! I'll be good, I promise! In fact, I'll swat myself with the newspaper ok? Ooooh, even better, I'll send myself to my bed and make myself stay there for a whole hour! Will that do? I won't even play with any toys either! :D
10. That brought some tears to my eyes. Do you know who the author is?
11.
Dont even know how I missed this...probably stupidly training my dogs or something...like you do...anywho...what???...maybe we should go back to dont feed the trolls?
But..but...but....it was kinda fun! Troll bashing that is! Hey, I never claimed I was not people aggressive! 8) And so called PitBull Fan, what on earth does this mean? Quote: So what to our insultve comments.
12.
carol, i love all your signature and avatar, great photographs :)
Thank you Marble! I saw the photos in the sig. of another and thought, hey! I want to do that!
13. Check it out http://www.cooldogs.ca/ I don't just want to take my dogs to visit, I want to live there! Hm, wonder if they're hiring. I would just need a work visa for starters, money to get me and my dogs up there, we'd be all set! Oh, they don't open til spring 2004, I've got plenty of time to plan this escape.
14. NoisyTiger, is it possible your dog is a foxhound or harrier? These breeds have the same general 'look' as a beagle but are much bigger dogs. Here's an American Foxhound Here's a Harrier Also here is a link to a photo of an English Foxhound http://www.dogomania.com/gallery/breeds/987504321.html
15. Here ya go Rowie!
16. Great photo of Lily! Congrats on her being famous and all! er, but has K seen the photo of Bonnie? Is she gonna flip? What a mug on that dog!
17. In response to the so called PitBull Fan Why is it after 9 1/2 years you are still attempting to stop your dog aggression towrds other dogs? Why isn't your training working then? Perhaps Goo believes that training does not stop when the dog is 1 or 2 or 3 or??? Perhaps Goo believes that training, like bonding, is something that occurs over many years, the entire life of the dog? Now I'm not trying to speak for Goo, I respect her judgement AND capabilities far too much for that. When I am asked how I got my dogs to behave as well as they do, I say, 'years of practice'. Not a month, not A year, but YEARS. Why has it taken 9 1/2 years to train your dog to be non-dog aggressive? With a dog that is naturally dog aggressive, again this is an ongoing training issue. You cannot flip a switch, you cannot take your dog out and train it for 20 minutes a day for 6 months and say woo hoo dog aggression issues are ALL GONE. Maybe if you gave the dog a lobotomy. And if your dog is naturally dog aggressive, why even bother trying to stop the dog from it's own natural inborn PIT FIGHTING GENE? Are you saying Goo should have just given up on her dog? Does this dog not deserve to live? Does she not deserve a caring, loving home where her needs are met and her natural tendancies are not only known but dealt with in a responsible cautious manner? Or are you saying Goo should let her dog go after other dogs? What are you trying to say here? If you have to practically hide from everyone inorder to walk your dog, then you surely have a dangerous dog on your hands, now don't you? Goo herself has owned up to her dogs attributes and has detailed what she does to minimize any chance of inappropriate interaction. What IS your problem with this? If people would stop kissing each others asses on here and look at the reality, then people may be helped with their dog problems. To blindly read that someone has a very dog aggressive dog and compliment them on how well the dog is taken care of, makes no sense. Again, just what IS your problem with this? Goo takes strong steps to protect not only her dog aggressive dog but also to protect other dogs. Goo does not fight her dogs, she does not beat her dogs, she does not ignore her dogs, she does not insist ALL pit bulls are the same, she DOES care for her dogs, she DOES protect her dogs, she DOES see that her dogs have fun in safe environments. Though I suspect I know, WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM? Just like you folks on here voice your opinions, I have the right to do the same. So true. By the same reasoning, I have every right to consider you an idiot who does not know much but is nonetheless quite willing to run off at the mouth anyway. You are now so caught up in simply wanting to pick a fight and be critical that you are making even less sense than before. I did not think that was possible but I stand corrected.
18. This is very cool! Congratulations to you and Mystic! Was her breeder amazed? Wishing she'd kept Mystic after all? :D
19. I looked all over and could not find any sort of 'breeding philosophy' statement. I am used to seeing this on many of the Belgian breeder sites I have visited. I don't know if its uncommon to have one or not. Nothing saying she's breeding for specific goals such as type, health, temperament, etc. The lack of such a statement does NOT mean she's not a quality breeder, as I said I'm just fairly used to seeing breeding goals on other sites. Cute dogs and lots of them!
20. Aw, she's taking her pups out for socializing!
21. I need to ask you to clarify meat in this case. Are we talking raw meat, cooked meat, canned dog food? Is Luka on a vegetarian kibble? Or a meat based one? I agree with Courtnek, meat is very important if not absolutely critical for a dog. Quality meat protein gives so much to a dog, I cannot imagine a vegetarian diet actually meeting all of their needs. I don't know for sure but it just goes against what I believe. Mine get beef, chicken and fish. I rarely eat pork so they rarely get pork.
22. My two older dogs do not get annual boosters anymore. Jesse got his last 'cocktail' in Dec 2000. He is almost 12 years old. My vet agrees that he is most likely adequately immune for the rest of his life but she did say it would be a good idea to run titers on him soon just for safety. Brittany got her last booster cocktail in June of 2002. She is 9.5 and also may well be immune for life but I will either have her updated next year on shots or run titers. Candy is just about 3, she got her DHLP in July. I am still on the fence as to whether she will get boosters next year or I may skip a year. As Cassie said, too bad titers are a bit pricey. I too do not believe in continually dumping more vaccine into a dog that does not need it. For years, the vaccine for coronavirus was pushed, then I find out that the incidence of coronavirus is small and normally very mild. I also read that the vaccine is not very effective. Anyway, here is a link to an in-depth article about vaccination protocols that I found very interesting and informative. http://www.dogs4sale.com.au/AAHA_Special_Report.htm
23. ack! I don't need more leashes I don't need more leashes I don't need more leashes I don't need more leashes WHEW! THAT WAS CLOSE! Nice site and thanks for posting the link, I can still go look, drool, consider, remind myself I don't need more leashes.... Actually I got 3 brand new leashes just last night. I was going to a meeting for Central Virginia's new agility club and ran into a lady who also does JFF agility. She had leashes made up for everyone who ran in the previous session of JFF and I had been there. Beautiful 6 foot red cotton web leashes, each one PERSONALIZED with my dogs names! I was so touched by her generosity.
24. Please read this thread http://forum.dogomania.com/viewtopic.php?t=6728 I am truly a believer in using Melatonin and peppermint EXTRACT, I have had some success in keeping my dogs calmer. Not perfectly calm but far less stressed than before. You must be proactive for it to work, in other words be aware of the potential for a storm and use the Melatonin and peppermint extract BEFORE the dog goes over the edge. However, I have seen where giving Jesse Melatonin and using the peppermint extract after he's gotten anxious has helped him from really freaking out.
25. Jesse, Brittany and Candy would like to wish the lovely Jackie a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Jesse, who thinks Jackie is VERY cute, says he would like to personally deliver a birthday smooch and is rather disappointed in me for saying that is not possible. Cyber sniffs and slurps from all the dogs on Jackie's special day!
