1. I'm feeding Conner Science Diet currently. The vet says its supose to be a great food, but not many others agree. So, I'm thinking of changing brands. I'm not sure to exactly what though. I've heard Canidae is of high quality, but the only store that sells it here is fairly far from us. Anyone know of some "good" dog foods?
2. Hmm, I think I'll try that, jweissg. Conner HATES being ignored, so that may work with him. Next time he goes out (if hes runs off that is), I'll try it. :)
3. I'm pretty stern with Conner. But right now, everything is a big game. "Catch me if you can" is definetly one of his favorites. And as it turns out, I can't catch him. I'll keep working with him. He can, and does get on my nerves, but I just think of how he'll eventually be - Obiedient. (Hopefully that is...)
4. Well, just asked my mom about the leash thing, heres what she said. "Omg, no way thats going to work. I don't think so." She's ridiculous. Anything that involves a dog being on a leash/chain she is totally against. :x So, I'll try this by myself, make sure I have it first though. You have the dog leashed all of the time, and your suposed to have them come to you at various times during the day? If thats all there is to it, I think I can handle it.
5. Hmm, that may be a problem. Conner doesn't like to wear his leash very much, he chews on it if hes wearing it. If he had to run around with it on all day he would probably end up chewing it right in half. Are there any chew-resistent leashes available? I think I saw one in the store once, but I can't really remember.
6. Conner is about 7 1/2 months. Going by that article, it probably is just a phase. Although he does listen very well... when you have treats on hand that is. I love the idea of keeping him on the leash, but my mom's just not going to accept that. How exactly does that work anyway? Theres no way I can possibly hold the leash every second of the day, doesn't he get to come off it sometimes? :niewiem:
7. Well, I've been having some problems with Conner lately. :( He doesn't seem to want to take any commands. My mom and I have been practicing "come" almost everyday, (something he REALLY needs to learn), I practice all his tricks, and reward him, but he is still acting as stuborn as a mule. I really don't mind if he doesn't listen perfectly, the only thing is, if I call him, he runs the other way! :-? This is becoming a very big problem, as just today, he provoked the neighbor dog to chase him. (Thank god the dog is freindly.) I really have no idea what the problem is, anyone have any thoughts?
8. My suggestion would be to try and find some very good homes for them, if you can't keep them yourself. I really don't know how you would go about doing that though, because its extremly hard to find good homes for pigs. Hopefully everything works out.
9. I think you've got the right idea with what your doing now. Taking him to fun places, and trying to make the car ride enjoyable by giving treats & praise is about all you can do. Although, if he does like to see out the windows, possibly try putting some phonebooks, or a step-stool on the seat, so he's able to see out. That might help a bit. I have a quick question while we are on the subject of carides myself, though. Do you know how to prevent puppies from throwing up in the car? My pup gets very sick when he takes "trips", and while I want to take him everywhere, and make sure he gets well socialized, I can't with this problem. If you have any advice on that, please let me know. The vet said he should just "grow out of it", but hes been in the car on several occasions, and he is still having trouble. :(
10. Max- It is a shortening of maximum. My mom said he was the pet that had taken us to our "maximum" amount of animals. Two guinea pigs and a dog later... Takona- It means "Wolf" in Athebaskan (they are a native tribe in Alaska). Named because she was living out in the woods, like a wolf. Connor- Hmm, don't really know, I just liked the name. :)
11. Neat, I'll check it out. :)
12. Oh.... You are so lucky you don't live near me. Because if you did, Merlin would have mysteriously disapeared by now... But I do have to say, he sounds alot like my pup with his trick learning skills! Maybe a little better, even though I hate to admit it. He's just such a cutie, can't get enough of that face! :D
13.
Yes, as are dozens of other breeds. Care for a small list? Germany (actually all these dogs are simply restricted): American Staffordshire Terrier Pitbull Terrier, Staffordshire Bullterrier, Bullterrier , Mastino Napolitano , Mastino Espanol , Bordeaux Dogge , Dogo Argentino , Fila Brasileiro , Roman Combat Dog, Chinese Combat Dog, Bandog , Tosa Inu Akbas , Berger de Brie (Briard) , Berger de Beauce (Beauceron) , Bullmastiff , Carpatin , Dobermann , Estrela Mountain Dog , Kangal , Caucasian Ovtcharka , Middle Asian Ovtcharka , South-Russian Ovtscharka , Karakatschan , Karshound , Komondor , Kraski Ovcar , Kuvasz , Liptak (The Goral's Dog) , Maremmo , Mastiff , Mastin de los Pirineos , Mioritic , Polski Owczarek Podhalanski , Pyrenees Mountain Dog , Raffeiro do Alentejo , Rottweiler , Slovensky Cuvac , Sarplaninac , Tibetan Mastiff , Tornjak, some places there restrict all dogs over 40 lbs and a certain height.
Alright, are my eyes fooling me, or did I see the name Malamute in that list? They are the sweetest, most loving dogs in the world, and they are suposedly "dangerous"...
14.
Pomeranians were bred to be lap dogs. Their ancestors were sled dogs. Yeah, the bird dog thing threw me for a loop too. :tard:
Yeah, I know they are bred as lapdogs, I just wanted to correct the bird dog thing, because that is NOT correct. You didn't think I meant they were bred as sled dogs today did you? Think of that picture...
15. I agree. There definetly needs to be a "Can be" there. I jumped right to Pomeranians, as they are my favorite breed, and I'm not all too happy with the info. :-?
barks alot, sheds, will challenge larger dogs
Will challenge larger dogs? That is a definet can, because my pom, nor the many others I have met do. I also don't like the "barks alot". Then it sounds as if they are your regular yapper, which is just not the case. Some bark more than others, just like many breeds, and some are easier to train not to do it than others. Its not like they are set off by a leaf falling... Also, what they were bred for?
bird dogging
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I am pretty sure that Pomeranians were bred for, and used as sled dogs. (For herding too maybe?). I have never heard of them being used as "bird doggers". So, I too think you need to change things about the site. Oh, and ObedienceGrrl, why are Lhasas not good pets for families with children under 12? Just curious.
16. Dani, why do you feel the need to educate? LC knows about pit bulls, shes not clueless to the breed and its traits. I don't know her very well, but I've read her posts. You make her out to be someone who saw a pit puppy, thought it was adorable, and now wants one...and I really don't think thats the case.
17. I missed the last fifteen minutes of it...but WHOA. :o Some freaks are on that show! But seriously, those guys and the dogs? :( Poor little things. They are treated like little barbies. I was very suprised that a breeder would actually give them a dog. She must have been somewhat irrisponsible atleast, I can't think of anyone who had their dogs best interests at heart who would sell to someone who belived in dogs as dolls and only dolls. As for the other people...the lady and son with the Assuies were actually, uh, normal. They seemed to be really great dog owners. But the German Shephard and Greyhound owners, weird! I didn't see the lady cry about the sperm, but I'll take your word for it. Greyhound people, I feel sorry for the dogs in a way, they have no structure, they are able to do what they please, as a couple others said. I think Chalcy was lucky, Kyra's a pretty awsome owner. :D I think thats my thoughts on just about everyone on the show. I'll definetly be tuning in next week...I doubt I'll be as suprized then though...
18. I, like CC can't control my temper when it comes to topics like this. I, too would have been sreamin' at the lady! Does she know what a puppymill is? If so, she is an extremly irrisponsible person. She doesn't even care dogs are being abused, and Severly overbred, just because a "Jug" is cute? I don't even know this person and I already hate them...
19. Nope, I don't own any huntin' dogs. All mine are purely pets. :)
20. Awwww, so very cute! Congrats on your new pup! :D
21. I'm definetly with the gross part. Seeing an uneutered dog, yuck!
22. Its muzzle and eye looks computer enhanced. I really don't think thats a real picture, but if it is, poor thing!
23. Oh man... That site is absoltely ridiculous. The ENTIRE focus of the site is puppies, puppies, puppies! Theres no information on the breeds or anytihng. And they say they're NOT a puppymill? Wheres the information backing that up? They breed about 30 different types of dogs. I looked at some of the puppies...how sad. They look pathetic. Not playful, happy, or perky. The white Pomeranian doesn't even look much like a pom at all. :o I would write an e-mail to them, but I doubt it will do any good... They either think they are doing good, or know what they're doing and just don't care, both being terrible...
24. Goodness. That is way too much. Most people only charge about $1,500 at the MOST for a show quality dog. The first sites prices weren't as outrageous as the second ones were. Now those people ARE in it for the money.
25. Take pictures? TAKE PICTURES? Don't these people own an airhorn, pepperspray, any rocks nearby? Theres no exuse not to do anything at all. Yes, I would be scared if there were two vicious dogs in my yard too, but that would probably make me all the more likely to do something about it. I really don't think these people cared much about their dog. The poor pup had to suffer because of these people, what a shame...
