I look at it this way.... Deer: They are WAAAAAY over populated. I'd much rather someone hunted or the state hire sharp shooters then have them hit by cars/semis or starving to death like they are now. And for the wild pigs.....they are NOT native to the land that they are on! They destroy all of the vegitation for native animals. So we have pigs out there reproducing like mad (because their litters are HUGE) and we are starving all of the other animals out there. Or maybe I'm wrong.....but that is how I've always felt.

Take "family" out for Lhasas! They are not good with children. Even the national breed rescue REFUSES to place any lhasa with someone who has a child under 12 visiting or even just a neighbor. And the hairless Chinese Crested is not good for people with dog allergies. Most people are allergic to dog saliva along with dander. That is a reason why we get so many CCs in our rescue. People think they are hypo-allergenic. They are not!

I put him in a sit stay. But keep in mind, he's older (4 years). So we have more obedience behind us. This little man is still a puppy, so he's gonna wiggle at anything new. I have had to hold down dogs before to use an eye wash. Basically just straddle them like you are riding a horse and hold their head against your chest. You will get a little wet in the process. Are you using an anitbiotic drop? Or something over the counter?

I know a lot of mastiff type dogs suffer from ectropion (where the lids turn out) just because of all of the facial skin. And I know that since the conjunctiva is a mucus membrane, it can be affected by outside allergens and become inflamed. I'm sure that you could use an OTC lubricant drop daily for him. I use them on my GSD because he gets reoccuring corneal ulcers.

Hey you! I'm up to two CCs now as well. We have a new foster but I think we'll keep this little one. He's the agility prospect I have been looking for! Our last foster, Mister, found a great forever home with a wonderful couple who have a Great Dane and a Black Lab. The three get along famously! I was going to put the link up for Pogo's pic....but I see that you have already seen him! LOL Glad to know everything is doing well with your and your two little ones! Don't be such a stranger!!

I wasn't sure we should make the jump to three. And now we are at 4. Like I say....."What is one more?" It's the decision to go to 2 that is difficult. Everything after that is a piece of cake! LOL -
Elmer!! That is so perfect for a goofball Flatty!!! I can't wait to hear all about him!
-
Almost sounds like you are describing a Pug! LOL. My new little foster is a BARKER. Not noisy any other time. He barks at the GSDs, at my other Chinese Crested, at the cats, at the toys, at the pillows, at his reflection in windows, at me, at my husband..... And have you ever heard a Chinese Crested bark? Let me assure you, it's not pretty! I'll gladly trade! I think my ears have started bleeding.

So what is the verdict??
-
My best guess would be to go on Petfinder and do a search for dogs and cats that get along with each other. There are quite a few cats out there in foster homes with dogs and visa versa. Good luck to your friend!!!

If your parents still say yes, then go for it!!!

Do most of you clip your dogs' toenails yourself?

I worship my dremel!!! -
This is a really great link!! http://homepages.udayton.edu/~merenski/doberdawn/index.htm On the left, there is a link for "How to Dremel Dog Nails" It's so easy!!
-
I don't use a clipper, I dremel, like DO said. There is little to no pressure (as long as you do it right!) put on the nail. It doesn't get squeezed or compressed like it would using a clipper. I have the mini cordless dremel. I got it at Walmart for $20.00. Can't beat that!
i tried bitter apple but he runs away from me( which we are working on he NEVER comes to me and runs awy when i try to get him )
This is more on the running away part, but it could help with the barking as well...... Have you done umbillical training with him? That might help out. We are getting a new foster in who is 5 -6 months old and we are told he is hell on wheels. I plan on tying the little guy to me! Just a suggestion!
My dogs all share a common middle name. It is "NO!"
Followed by their last name which is "Damnit"
Doesn't anyone else find uneutered male dog SCARY? :o ESPECIALLY the larger breeds when they run....*shudders*
I thought Jeremy was going to pee on himself laughing when he saw his first Neo. Mastiff in the ring. He pulled a :o Then lost it!
-
OOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...... It looks nice.... but soooo expensive. I don't think Jeremy would let me spend $60.00 on a dog brush.
-
Well, that answers that. Our yard is fenced, but that wouldn't contain a cat. And my cats are indoors only.....no exceptions. I'd lose it if one of them got out. And yes, our door would be giant as well, since Dakota is 125ish pounds. But....I'd be VERY worried about the neighbors. The GSDs are VERY vocal if someone is within 'seeing distance' of the house, so I'd hate for them to be a nuisance to everyone. Oh well.....worth a try!
-
Okay.....a few questions for those of you who have doggie doors: 1. Do you have cats? If so, how do you keep the cats from going out the dog door? 2. Do you allow your dog's access to the door when you are not home? 3. And if so, do your neighbors ever complain of them barking? 4. What happens on days that are wet? Do you still let your dogs come and go as they please and track mud everywhere? I think that's all for now.....thanks!!

Cross your paws, fingers, lite candles **UPDATE**

Well....hopefully the people who want him understand about ASDs and their personalities. So even if he does get protective, they will know that it is the breed and since he has been with you for over a year, they will understand that he has formed a bond to your family. Please keep us posted on what happens!! Good luck and fingers, toes, and paws crossed over here!!!
