Congratulations, Freckles. Having a puppy must be one of the greatest feelings in the world. It is for me, at least. But ignore me, I have puppy fever. I want a puppy now. LOL I have a Labrador Retriever too. Courtnek is right; they are great pets but they do have to be trained properly, exercised enough and given the right amount of attention. I'm sorry, but I forget what kind of breed your first dog is. You should probably ask some of the wise ones here how to introduce a first dog to a second. They must be on neutral ground. I'm sure Court or some one else could help you with that... Good luck & have fun!!

I think that you could make it work. It's going to be long and difficult, but if you want a dog as much as you say, then I think that you can do it. Is there a particular reason you really want this dog? To add what has been said: I would own a big dog in an apartment. It can work. Any dog can be suitable for apartment living as long as the owner makes an effort. Kevin and I have family friends who own a Border Collie and they live in an itty, bitty loft. Are you talking big dog, like a Great Dane or a medium-sized dog? However, some dogs have much lazier sides than others. Border Collies are usually go, go, go. A Lab, for example, will just chill out on the couch and watch you have a beer. Or, if it's my fianc

I remembered that I also love the look of the English Cocker Spaniels. They come in the most beautiful colours and I just can't resist! I'm a sucker for a pretty dog. :) I also adore Rough Collies! I just think they are the cutest, prettiest dogs and they also seem very mellow & laid-back. I had a friend who had three and she said that they love to just laze around on the couch. Then, when she wanted to take them herding, it was like they were Border Collies. Guess their herding instinct kicked in! However, by the time I get to Aussies and Border Collies, I don't think I'll be owning anything but them. I'll want every colour Aussie and many BCs. I looove these two breeds. Kat's new BC baby is killin' me! I want her so bad!!

Go Felicia! Chug, chug, chug! I think that she wants us to post how we get our dogs' attention. Such as treats, whistles, etc. I'm just guessing though.

Teddy looks so vulnerable and naked, the poor little thing. However, you did what you had to and I'm sure Teddy is grateful. Mats cannot be anyone fun for anyone. I also want to add that you are an angel for taking them in and taking great care of them, Tammy. Well done! You are such a sweetheart. :)

I'm so sorry to hear such sad news. I know how much Zoe meant to you, Kat, she was such a darling. Hugs. May she rest in peace.

This case is tragic, but way too popular. It seems this has become a "trend". Bless you, Izzy, for taking Tina under your wing. Taking in one dog alone is amazing, let alone one that probably has many on the way. You rock! I'm so happy that you decided to take her to your vet and let her stay with your crew. I must say, if we don't have photos, I demand some questions answered. What size doxie is she? What kind of coat does she have? What colour is she? Good luck and keep us updated!

Couldn't you sit this guy down and talk to him? Maybe he's just a little bit thick and doesn't realize what you're trying to get across. Tell him that you mean business and that if he does it again, he's going to wish he hadn't. Say, "My dog, my rules." However, it also sounds to be like he is power-tripping a bit. The classic, "I'm a man, I know how to take care of a dog." If that's how he thinks you take care of a dog, he shouldn't be allowed to own one. He just seems to be very reckless to me. I don't trust him at all. Keep in mind, I've never met him & know nothing about him! LOL But, as said previously, if he is a danger to your dog, keep him away from her.

It really is a sad world when people steal children, dogs, cats, etc. What is the point of taking away some one's noble partner? It makes me so angry. I'm thinking of you, Tx and I hope Leo returns safe.

My next dog will probably be a Welsh Corgi or an English Springer Spaniel. After that, I'd like an Australian Shepherd and a Border Collie.

Rest in peace, Mocha. You were definitely loved while you were here on Earth. Hugs to you, ESSLover. You poor thing, it must be so hard! K and Rory send their smoochies over.

I would be a Labrador Retriever; sometimes you can be energetic and spunky, then other times you can be a full-time couch potatoe. That matches my personality perfectly. Sometimes I want to get out and go for jogs; other times I want to sit on our couch, watch Ellen, and eat Goldfish crackers.

Well, when Kevin and I are...together, K acts like she's gone crazy. She will come over and lick us to death or much worse, bark and growl and carry on until we stop. This has just started happening recently. Does anyone know why she would do such a thing & how to stop her?

Well, we called the HS on Monday and they said that the little sweetheart was still there. No one had claimed her. Kevin and I needed at least a day or two to think about whether or not we had the time, energy and love to have the white fluffball. We decided "yes"! But, I called Wednesday and two couples had already tried adopting her. It wasn't the owner coming back, just another two couples like us who wanted a lovely "lap dog". So the lady working at the HS said they were going to go around and check our homes I asked when we could have an appointment and all that. So now there are three potential owners for the tiny old gal. A woman named Carrie is coming this Monday to do a check. I'm very nervous. Wish us luck!
Was Bill Clinton's dog Buddy a Black Lab ??
I recall Clinton's dog being a chocolate Lab. I could be wrong though.
She could also be herding you. Some dogs, such as Heelers, are notorious for that, Though I don't know the solution for that particular problem. Probably extra excercise and/or a job to do.
I definitely see where you're coming from. Rory is walked about once a day and she usually goes to the park for a romp to. K sometimes gets 3 walks a day, but only because she is better behaved than Rory on a leash. K just goes with the flow now. She sniffs the other two dogs I'm walking and goes about her business. Rory has to always be unique. She'll pull me one way while the other two are pulling the other way. It's difficult to take her on seperate walks. If I have a slow day, she will get about two walks and a romp. What other forms of exercise would you suggest?
Are you doing NILIF with her? That would be ther best place to start! Basically she will have to work for everything. It may be wise to put her on a leash and keep her with you so that you can correct "bad" behavior right away. Here's my favorite thread on NILIF (it's on another board... sorry...I just love this training forum...). It's in deapth and couldn't explain things better.
I actually previously tried to join that board. Unfortunately, as soon as I started reading it or replying, my browser quits. It's weird. I get extremely frustrated! Though, I really would love to hear more about NILIF. People have mentioned it here but I'm not sure I fully understand the concept.
ML, I'm having some of the same issues with Gunther. He more like, mouths, when he wants to play (when we are walking in the backyard he will dance besides and try to grab my arm), or if we are throwing something for him, he will jump up at it and get my arm, not actually biting down or anything, but it's not a good habit that's for sure!
Rory does almost the same thing. If she is excited or nervous, she begins to nip. I don't like it at all. The other day she was playing around with Steph and she had a kong in her hand, Rory tried to nip her hand to get the kong from her. It's just unacceptable. Thanks for your reply.

Welcome again. I'm glad you decided to come back! Many of us do things that others do not like, we're only human...but it is best to ignore it and get on with your life. Hope you can put up with us this time around! :P Hey guys, was "norma" primrose, the pitbull hater?

 I'm sorry, I laugh but I know how much it stinks to have this happen. I, too, have been there done that. One morning I had to get up especially early because a client wanted to drop their pooch off at 4:30 AM. :o (Don't worry, they offered to pay twice as much!) The night before I had gone to bed about 1 AM. So there I was on less than five hours of sleep... I went into take a shower and I turned the sink on the clean it out (Steph always leaves toothpaste at the bottom of it). So I get into the shower, 15 minutes pass and I notice that the shower sounds much louder than usual. I ignore it (blonde moment of my year!) and go on with my happy shower routine. When I get out, there is about 2 and a half inches of water on our bathroom floor. I had left the sink on, it overflowed and the water leaked everywhere. I felt like such a bonehead and Kev was piss'd!

How wonderful! I wish you and Kat the best of happiness. I also look forward to lots and lots of pics. ;) -
Not Naomi, but wow! Chance is a beautiful dog, pharlane. I'm absolutely in love! How old is your pooch? I love his markings. Lovely. :D Naomi, Cody is looking beautiful as always! What a hottie that dog is. 8) K has developed quite the crush on him, LOL. He is such a great looking boy. Give him a smooch for me!

Wow Zoe is so purdy! Happy birthday sweetie!

Are you bi-polar? I recall that this thread is titled "jerks" and all about how you want to leave Dogo because we're all big meanies. [insert pout here] Yet, your most recent post you have nothing to say but good things about us. It seems the tables have turned...
