I was feeding Sky Autarky food, as it's gluten free (she has a gluten allergy) and full of herbs and other goodies - and she was doing really well on it, shiny coat, nice build etc. Thing is we dont have a car and now we've moved, we have to go across town to the shop where we used to buy it, and pay for a taxi back, so we changed her to a food we can get on home delivery - Davies Ranger Lamb and Rice. Seems ok so far but she's only been on it two weeks. The Autarky was fab though, would recommend it to anyone in the UK (dont know if you can get it in the US). Best bit about it, other than her condition improving, was the price.

Not sure about pointer, it's unlikely as I think he used to be a travellers dog (was taken off them in Ireland?) and pointers aren't really in their league if you get me. The rescue thinks he is springer cross (could be collie too, lurchers tend to have more than two breeds in there) because of these little spots, and also the ears, they say they are actually quite long in real life. The posts aren't all the way through, they are black spots under white hair, so they are a bit springer too I think. Not sure, but I know one thing, he is handsome, he is gorgeous, and he is ours :D Thanks for all the lovely messages, will post more details as and when it all goes ahead, and if we get more pics :) Lisa xx

I dont live in the countryside but I do live with my husband and our 5 kids, with one, nearly two dogs, and am also a stay at home mum. Money is tight, but love, company and happiness are miles more important :D Hubby and I have been together 9 years in a couple of weeks, married for 5 (we got married after our second daughter as we didn't want to get married because we had kids, but because we love each other). Soppy old so and so aren't I?! And yes, I read it all so  :hand: And EllieAngel, fancy starting a syndicate, could do with a lottery win for my dream life too  Farm in the country....lots of dogs....perhaps another kid?! Naaaa...perhaps not

There's a gorgeous standard poodle lives near me, and she is clipped short-ish without the lion clip and she is beautiful. Dont like the lion clip, makes them a little fru-fru for me

These are Badger - he is about 2-3 years old, and he's from Ireland. He might be a springer cross type lurcher, but really it's anyone's guess! He's very friendly, soft and loveable, and should settle in very well here. He might even be cat friendly :D

Boomer had a "hello"with A PORCUPINE!(Pics)
LisaLQ replied to Holz_Boomer's topic in Everything about dogs
Poor love, glad he's getting better - thank god we dont have porcupines in the UK, although our Buffy (now deceased) used to love hedgehogs  -
....there will be another addition to our family next week hopefully, we passed a homecheck (and they even met the babies!) and are adopting another lurcher, called Badger :) Will post pics when I can upload them to muchos, maybe tonight or tomorrow :D Lisa xx

We used tea tree on Sky and it made her itchy, but she has a gluten allergy, so perhaps she's more susceptible to allergies. We use (can I say brand names?) Johnson and Johnsons baby shampoo on her. As someone said it sometimes doesn't make much difference to the doggy smell, but it's gentle and makes them very shiny :D I dont know how often you should bath dogs, but Sky being smooth coated only gets bathed a couple of times a year, unless she's filthy

Invicible fence? Any good? (x-pens too...)
LisaLQ replied to Crested's topic in Everything about dogs
It might be worth trying, but even invisible fences can be expensive from what I've heard. I dont know how built up an area you are in, or how busy the traffic is around your home - do you live in the town or country? If it doesn't work though, you run the risk of your dogs escaping. And, even if it does work, a stray dog/fox/some other type of animal (or a dog thief!) can cross that fence, whereas with a normal fence you can lessen the risks of that. And....(I wont say any more than this I promise) I think they are just electric shock collars (correct me if I'm wrong) that go off when your pet crosses the "fence", and I don't like them one bit - but that's just me :( :-? Tell your dad that sometimes dogs cost money too   (kidding) -
Invicible fence? Any good? (x-pens too...)
LisaLQ replied to Crested's topic in Everything about dogs
From what I've read, it can work for some, but some dogs run straight through it, and if they do, then that's it, they're gone. I personally wouldn't risk it, but there are lots of people I have seen online who do. The one thing you have to remember is that although it might stop your dogs from getting out, it doesn't stop any other animals from getting in - and that could be a problem if they're not very friendly :( I'd try and talk your dad into getting a real fence, they're worth it in the long run  -

Female ticks are also poisonous if I remember rightly? Not sure about that. Stronghold (according to the website I read the other day) actually doesn't protect against ticks, but it does protect against fleas, mites, ear mites, round worm and mange... I heard somewhere that burning the ticks (cigarette on the bum apparently!) helps, but really that sounds kinda dangerous especially with a long haired dog :o There's also a powder you can get from the vets, but dont know what it's called. I was told never to pull them as it leaves their heads behind and that can cause infection. As someone said on a similar thread the other day (on another site) - scream and run to the vets without touching it

Are Rotweilers really as violent as the media tells us?
LisaLQ replied to a topic in Everything about dogs
Rotties in the right hands from what I've seen are slobbering loving dogs, lovely pets. However, as they are seen as a macho breed, the macho idiots who own them dont tend to be the best of owners, and there lack of training/socialisation is what causes these problems. It the people whose hands they are in that are dangerous, any dog in the wrong hands can be dangerous. -
Just wondering if there was anyone here with greyhounds, or lurchers, or a sighthound of some description? They're fab dogs, great pets, and sooo loving. We've had greyhounds in the past, but Sky is our first lurcher. We've had her for two years now, so we're learning, slowly!

What about Gerri? I know the spelling is different but Ben and Jerry's is a famous ice-cream brand. Gerri was the female version of that name, my dog Sky was called that when we adopted her, but we have a brother called that, in the male spelling, so it was too confusing, but I love the name :) Good luck getting your girlie! Beardie cross? Looks like a small lurcher to me :)
