1. Having nipped on to the "other site" to have a nosey at this thread on there everyone's on about, I didn't actually see anywhere where it said you had to be a) an adult b) a trainer c) a breeder d) a rescue co-ordinator I wonder if they're welcoming towards regular dog owners or not, from what I've read, although the majority are very friendly, there are a few there (as on all sites) who seem to have the common garden holier than thou internet attitude. Rowie, if you felt bad there, all be it possibly unecessarily, best to stick to places you like (and who like you) Not saying it's a bad site at all, but as mentionned on there, you cant stop people from posting, and if you feel as if those people dont like you, why bother going, there are many others to choose from   Let's all agree to disagree, huh? Stick to the boards we like, not disrupt each others (that goes for both sides!). Lisa xxxx
2. It's bad because it's highly priced for an average quality food. And apparently they do some pretty mean things to animals to test their food, but I'm questionning that at the moment. Still wouldn't pay twice as much for a so-so food, when you could pay less and get one better  Nutro, Autarky, Burns - all better than IAMs or Eukanuba. :D (by the way some vets recommend it because they sell it) Great news about them passing their healthchecks :D
3. Looks like a pretty crap site, and you're best off out of there. I've read the rest of what they posted, and they sound less than friendly. Anyone who has a board on coursing, and mentions an ex-racer being allowed to do this (most ex-racers are retired due to injury and shouldn't be racing), obviously cant give sound advice. Ignore them, stick to here, it's a lot friendlier and the advice is better

Hooch

I'm probably wrong then, my sister says he was a purebred too. I thought it was a Rough Collie he had pups with, not a Border Collie, will have to watch it now - I love that film - will have to buy it on video!

Hooch

I believe he was actually a dogue de bordeaux cross  so I've been told anyway....
6. Sky - 4-6 year old blue and white smooth coated lurcher bitch. Adopted from rescue shelter 2 years ago. Badger - 2-3 year old black and white smoothish coated lurcher dog. Adopted from rescue centre 3 1/2 weeks ago. Emma, Sophie, Jack, Joe and Rebecca - 7 year old, 5year old, and nearly 6 month triplets humans. Wont say how they got here

Ignorant

Oh and forgot to say, a little boy over the road from where we used to live offered me

Ignorant

When we first adopted Sky we used to walk her to the tarn (small man made lake where we used to live). Two times we were stopped and asked about Sky, at first it was a nice conversation, then both times (different people bear in mind) we were asked if she was speyed, and we said "Not yet but she will be when she's out of season" (she came to us in season, and later it turned out she was pregnant, but at this point we didn't know that) - and both times they offered us money for her there and then. It was pretty scary, good thing my husband was there, otherwise things could have ended up a lot worse - as lurchers are stolen in England quite a bit. The first time we were asked, we were offered
9. Sky humps Badger - she's speyed, and he's entire (for the next couple of days anyway). She's just trying to tell him who's boss, however, Badger has now taken to humping Sophie, my 5 year old daughter. :o He's getting neutered next week. (He's a lurcher, and Sophie is small for a 5 year old too, so she was understandably a little upset) :(
10. Guess we'll both be buying lottery tickets this week?
11. I agree, try your local shelter :) Dogs in shelters come in all shapes, sizes, colours, coat types - you would be the owner of a truly individual dog! Also many dogs in shelters have been temperament tested, and the shelters know how they would react with other animals, and could know some of their history. Plus adult dogs are usually a lot easier for a first pet - minimal housetraining etc. I'm so in love with Koy (above) - wish I had that winning lottery ticket, and a bigger house, then I could bring her over here
12. I love dobies, but even more so with intact ears and tail, they are so much more beautiful that way :D Over here in the UK, all dobies have intact ears, as ear cropping is illegal, just tail docking that continues. They're lovely dogs though, I used to live near someone who had a young male dobie, and took very good care of him, - you'd see him parading down the street with his halti on (he was a bit of a handful apparently!) looking so gorgeous, but everyone would cross the road (assuming he was a vicious dog, they did the same with my Sky, a lurcher!). I love them, beautiful hounds :D
13. Something similar happened to one of the managers of my site recently. I'd been given the link to a new "rescue" that had a lot of greyhounds and lurchers needing homes, and been asked to crosspost their details to our site. I was looking at the site and saw a really lovely looking dog on it, and was showing my friend through MSN messenger. I told her to look at the cute dog I'd seen, and she got the shock of her life! The dog under the one I was showing her on the page was her dog - marked up as a female needing a home. They had pinched the picture (dont know if it was the first time or not) off our site, and used it to advertise their dogs. Turns out they're not the most reputable of rescues, and were also "selling" dogs through the free-ads, and also race dogs - so the greys they had needing homes might have been their own. I wont name the rescue, as this could still be a misunderstanding, but as we've had no reply to the emails sent, we're assuming they dont want to explain it. They've removed the pic now, but no apology as yet that I know of. :( :-?
14. Also voted :D Sky wanted to show you her lovely coat, achieved by a good food and evening primrose oil capsules. Lisa xxxx
15. Most people aren't allergic to the fur or hair, they're allergic to the dander, which ALL dogs have. The only thing I could advise would be Petalclense (sp?) which is something you put on the dog (dont know if it's a shampoo or a lotion). No such thing as a hypoallergenic dog I'm afraid, just ones that wont cause as much problems as another breed, if you get me. Best of luck, Lisa xx
16. Someone said on another board I go on....
Men....cant live with them, cant fit their bodies in the dustbin
   That's a typical "Mick" (my hubby) thing to have done! Actually it's a good job I saw this post, as he was supposed to remind me to ring the vets and book Badger in for his neuter, thanks for reminding me!
17. I dont have any real experience with pups, but personally I wouldn't leave one alone for that long, although that doesn't mean it cant be done. Have you thought about an adult dog instead of a pup? There are many in rescues all over who can be left for longer than a pup. Pups get into everything, into trouble mainly  and they can get poorly quickly if there's no-one about to keep an eye on them. Saying that, if you're prepared to get doggie daycare, or a neighbour/family member to pop in and check on them, and let them out for a toilet break etc, then anything is possible. Best of luck, Lisa xx
18. Favourite I've had - greyhounds and lurchers Favourite I'd like (but will never afford!) - Borzoi, Standard Poodle (after all they're just curly greyhounds *lol*), Deerhound, Wolfhound, rough coated lurcher. Borzoi would be lovely but they cost a fortune to buy from a breeder, and not only that, but I'd rather get a dog from a shelter, so that's that one out of the question! You never know, maybe one day, but for the moment I've got my two favourite dogs :D
19. She's gorgeous - stick her in an envelope and airmail her over to me  (kidding!) Hope she finds a great home soon, and in the meantime I hope she's a good girl for you - she's beautiful! :D
20. Have you tried Dog Rescue Pages? They have a rehoming board and it's really successful, loads of rescues use it :) Dog Rescue Pages
21. They sound gorgeous, wish we could help, hope they find their forever homes soon
22. http://www.mypetpages.net/ This is a site that I use, you make a little webpage for your pet(s) and then you can image link to message boards through it :D

Lurcher

They are very common in rescues in the UK and Ireland, overseas they're not seen as much. :)

My two lurchers, Badger (black and white male) and Sky (blue and white female). The most loving friendly dogs I have ever known :D Both rescue dogs, Sky was previously used for hunting, and although many lurchers can be trained to live happily with cats, she is too keen. Badger is untested as of yet, we've only had him just over a fortnight. I do know many lurchers (and greyhounds) that live happily with small furries, not all are as keen as Sky  Edited to add - forgot to say that they are both fabulous and very gentle with my 5 kids, 3 of which are baby triplets :)
25. Ohh no I didn't mean that, someone else said that I think. I just confirmed that I had read her child had been bitten by a dog, unsure if it was a staffy or not. I dont think anyone should condemn a breed for one dogs actions at all, you are totally right
