I think the best thing you can do is research - read up about the different breeds in her, and talk to the rescue centre about whether you're suitable for her and vice versa. She could be cute looking, but might have other problems or needs that you cant offer, or she might be perfect! Talk to your parents about whether they want a dog (sorry I don't know how old you are, so forgive me if I've got the wrong end of the stick!), and if so - what size, temperament, activity level etc. She sounds lovely - but remember that not all dogs are right for all people, if you get me :) Looks aren't everything - don't pick a dog 'cos it's cute, pick it because you can offer it a wonderful home with everything it needs, and it can offer you what you want in return, love and companionship. I hope she is perfect for you though! :D

I'm crossposting this - original poster on our site says it's ok to crosspost:
Hello, apologies if you have already seen this article, but I am forwarding it (with permission) to as many relevant groups and individuals as I can. I realise that it may not affect those of us not in America directly, but all of us who love greyhounds will surely be appalled by the ramifications. I would ask just a few seconds of your time to mail and voice your opinion. As we know, the greys can't speak for themselves! Thank you for your time. Kind regards, Anne Mears - greyhound lover *************************** BILL TO LEGALISE GREYHOUND KILLING By Nick Mays GREYHOUND RESCUE organisations and dog lovers across the world have been outraged by a Bill proposed in the USA by the Alabama Legislature which effectively legitimises the culling of Greyhounds by any person who chooses to do so. Under Alabama's House Bill Number 37, which only requires the signature of the State Governor to become law, Greyhounds are to be re-classified as livestock. This means that culling by shot or fatal injection can be undertaken by any unlicensed individual, rather than by veterinary professionals, who are, of course, bound by a code of ethical conduct. Ann Bollens of the Greyhound Pets of America Emerald Coast Chapter attacked the Bill as bad legislation. "This is like saying these dogs aren't worth anything," she said. The bill authored by Representative James Buskey of Mobile also prescribes lethal injection as the method of killing greyhounds. But it doesn't say what can or can't be used. Baldwin County District Attorney David Whetstone whose preparing to prosecute a Lillian man under the existing statute for killing thousands of greyhounds, says it could effect his case. Whetstone says he has real problems with this bill. "Nor does it allow the dog the privilege of being executed by a vet, anybody can do it! So there are some real problems with this bill." The bill was passed in the House under a Tourism and Travel Committee and in the Senate under a Tourism and Marketing Committee. All members of the Mobile and Baldwin County Legislative Delegations voted in favor of the bill except Senator Pat Lindsey and Representatives Mitchell and White who were not on the floor when the votes were taken. Toby Hart, who is campaigning against Bill 37 told OUR DOGS: "At no point has the State Governor, or the proposer of the bill, James Buskey of Mobile, offered any explanation or justification for this extraordinary law, which sits well in Alabama's long tradition of illiberal and oppressive legislation." *To contact the State Governor to register protest contact: http://www.governor.state.al.us/email/contact_form.htm To add to the international appeal for support, which is being collated by a local TV reporter, Randy Wood email to: rwood@WKRG.com

Probably stress and/or excitement, sure it will settle down soon - but if not dont forget to call your vet for advice :)

I have never heard of a dog being "mad" and peeing somewhere, whether pup or adult. There is seperation anxiety, which is exactly what it sounds like, they are anxious as they have been left and they do not understand that their owner will be home again. It's not anger though. Anyway, back to this pup, it just needs time, patience and showing where to go. Punishment wont help, verbal or otherwise, as the pup wont understand and you'll only make them scared of you. Let your pup out into the garden or designated peeing place often, then as the weeks go by progress to leaving them longer in between pee breaks. Paper training does work for some, but usually it's just confusing for the dog, as first you tell it to mess on the paper, then outside, and it takes a lot longer. Start as you mean to go along. :D (Ps. I dont think labs/retrievers are great pets for first time owners either, personally, they need lots of time, training, exercise and stimulation, almost as much as a collie, although they are lovely dogs!)

From Neuticles site...
NeuticlesID - A tiny microchip - about the size of a grain of rice- is implanted within the Neuticle to help identify your pet by authorities if he becomes lost.
Do you know any vet who would scan down there to check for a microchip? :o

I dont think he's peeing on the floor because he's mad with you - he's only 17 weeks old, that's what puppies do until they're housetrained! His bladder isn't big enough to hold on very long at that age, give it a few more weeks at least. I'm sure someone here will be able to offer some advice, best of luck. Lisa xx

Mad. Absolutely mad. Not only the "breeder" for breeding his dogs for the hell of it, but the woman for wanting to breed from him too, getting a dog for her kid (!) and also the suggestions that they should give the dog back and get...ANOTHER DOG FROM THE SAME "BREEDER"!!!!!! I mean come on - how stupid is that?! So I suppose the owner wasn't that stupid as she refused, as I would too, but if she'd have looked into finding a decent breeder in the first place, she wouldn't be in that mess. Mad mad mad.

Sky had 13 pups, and if anyone has ever met a lurcher (or greyhound) pup, they'll know how hard that was! Every time I get clucky for a pup, I just remember them, they were lovely, but I could never do that again :o Although they are very hard to resist, I get the same feeling with adult dogs too - but 2 is enough for us

2 lurchers. :)

Beautiful dogs, I think they're gorgeous! Being owned by two lanky dogs myself (lurchers) and a previous mum to a wonderful greyhound (sadly passed in 2000) I would just like to say a big hello from sunny (ha ha not!) England! Can I sneak in a little promotion for my greyhound and lurcher group while I'm on? :evilgrinblack:  *runs and hides*
-
Also have a dog that likes to run - Sky if given the chance would happily scarper and run around the estate (she did once, but only because some kid had left the gate open and I didn't grab her when the doorbell went - I caught her again in 5 minutes but boy, what a fright!) - but now I know how to prevent that. And she is speyed. Good luck with Karma (the name sounds good, could be good karma *lol*) - and sorry about the lab. Lisa xxxx

Dont worry Courtnek - I was having a touchy everyone hates me day  Sorry xxxx

I love tuna, but dont think I'd like tuna ice cream  Although my dogs do like beer, we have to be careful to keep it out of their way :o

Evening Primrose Oil capsule (normal cheap human one a day style) either burst over their food, or if your dog is like mine, and thinks it's a lovely treat, give them it whole. Great for their coat, and apparently their joints too. Didn't know about Olive Oil, I used to give mine plain old veggie oil (tablespoon on their food) - but if I cant get hold of the EPO, I'll use Olive Oil instead, always have some in the house, just didn't know if I could use it. (By the way, Badger and Sky love organic baby food - blueberry one, they got it by mistake, my fault, babies had had some for lunch but weren't too keen, so I took it in the kitchen and left it on the kitchen table in case they changed their minds. Seems B + S got their first...) :D

Mmmm beer and human waste, delightful
Personally, I would never leave a small child (and 5 is small) alone with any dog. Not saying that you did anything wrong, just a precaution. Even he "nicest" dogs in the world can turn on a child, if they are trying to move up in the ranks...I know I have said this before, so bear with me.....
I didn't say she was alone :-? It was in front of me, and I stopped him, but in that minute space of time he had knocked her over. It was literally a split second, and he's not done it again. Bear in mind that this was when he was very new to us, he now knows that the kids come higher up than him. I would never leave my children alone with a dog, not even Sky who we've had for 2 years. I dont know where you got the impression I did :-?
i believe he also sells something called prescription plan ?? has anyone heard anything about that brand?
Hills Science Diet is prescription plan, isn't it? Can anyone confirm that, I've never bought it - way too expensive for me  Here's the link for the pet foods tested on animals: http://www.uncaged.co.uk/petfood.htm Autarky is a great food but I think you can only get that in the UK. CSJ is similar, in that it's a working dog food, that I believe can be used for pets, and I think there is a stockist in Denmark. As I've never used CSJ (but know people who have) I cant personally say from experience whether it's suitable for your dogs or not, but I'm sure they'll be able to help. And it's cheap too - but as for quality, although I've seen it compared to Autarky, and Autarky is great, I cant say myself as I've never used it. Might be worth asking for a sample? CSJ also make herbs to add to your dogs food. Here's their link, if that helps: http://www.csjk9.com Denmark stockist - Finn Petersen Tel: 0045 76 700 741 Hope that helps a little :)

Aww that's so cute! She must really love you to do that. :D Sky likes to sit on my knee, she's about 27kg (dont know how much in pounds, perhaps about 60-ish? not sure). She cant at the mo (had surgery a fortnight ago) so she lies next to me and puts her head on my lap instead! She still jumps onto her dad's knee though - but she's so bony, being a lurcher, all elbows! Sometimes if I have a nap she comes up on the bed with me, and lays with her head on the other pillow, then when I wake up, she is right in my face, next thing I know, her tongue meets my eyeball or something  Dogs, funny things

Try it minus the tuna, my two love frozen yoghurt, even fruity ones, me too! Not sure about the tuna for me though
