In one of my dog books theres a recipie for muffins. I made some, and Bir loves them! Here is the recipie: 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 cup whole-wheat flour 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 cup grated Cheddar cheese (I didn't use cheddar and that was fine) 1 cup grated carrot 2 large eggs 1 cup milk 1/4 cup vegitable oil Preheat the oven to 350 degree. Greace a muffin tin or line it with paper baking cups. Combine the flours and baking powder and mix well. Add the cheese and carrots, and use your fingers to mix them into the flour untill they are well distributed. In another bowl, beat the eggs. Then whisk in the milk and vegetable oil. Pour this over the flour mixture, adn stir gently until just combined. Fill the muffin cups three-quarters full with the mixture. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the muffins feel springy. Be sure to let the muffins cool before letting your dog do any taste testing. If he's a medium to large dog, one muffin will be a great snack. Make it half a muffin for a small or toy dog.

Bir likes to snuffle around in everything too, and usually I just let him. But he has also learned "this way", and if I say it he usually starts walking again. If he doesn't, I pull gently on the leash and keep saying it, and eventually he comes. The way he was taught it was when I said it I tugged a little on his leash and started running, and since he loves to run he'd come. Also, when he was going in one direction and me in the other, I'd say this way and he learned that if he didn't come by himself he'd have to come because the leash would be going in my direction. And then when he does come I praise him tons, and reward him with running a little. I'm sure there are alot better ways to train this though.

Bir really doesn't like other dogs, and whenever he sees one he either growls or barks or does both. There are some, very few females he likes, but most he seems to hate. When he sees another dog he completely ignores me or my mom, whoever is walking him, and just pulls terribly to get to the other dog to fight it. Its not nice. He doesn't have to like them, but I wish he could ignore them instead. I'm hoping that someday he can run loose, but if he doesn't stop being so agressive towards other dogs I don't know if he can. I have no idea how to stop it. Soon Bir is going to have private lessons with a trainer, but is there anything I can do in the meantime to stop it?

What kind of animal was your dog in its previous life?

Hippo must be fun to watch when she runs! How does she look like a rabbit?
Well, it's kinda hard to explain: she runs with her body arched, and you get a feeling that her bum is gonna get in front of her head  And she runs really fast in circles--all you see is a hooked tail (normally her tail is up and a little curled), flying in teh wind just like the tail of a rabbit running. Ohh... and she runs through really thick bushes at full speed--you can't see her, you just hear the noise :)
    Aww... -

I'm convinced that Bir was an otter. He loves the water, and when he wears his rain ear tube he looks like one too! :o
What's a "rain ear tube", Nea? I'm sure Hippo must have been a cheeky monkey, a filthy hippo, a cute dwarf rabbit (because of the way she runs)... Ooops, you said one animal, didn't you? Oh, and I think Rowie and Hippo must have worked together (as devil and his assistant) at some point
A rain ear tube is a tube of rainproof material like on a rainjacket, with elastic in the ends that goes over the dogs head and the ears are kept in it. It looks really funny, and poor Bir was embarrased! He also walked into a couple of things and knocked his head, the poor dog. And afterwards he had to bend his front legs and polish the floor with his for once dry ears! He looks so funny when he does that, and he makes grunting sounds at the same time. But he doesn't like the rain tube thing so I've tried making him ear bags instead. He seems to prefer those. Hippo must be fun to watch when she runs! How does she look like a rabbit? I think Bir might have been a betta too, maybe... He certainly does not like other males! -
Oh noo! I don't have a picture of Bir's eyes.. :( But its a great idea!

We haven't had Bir for so long yet, so he hasn't gotten that many nicknames yet. So far, he gets called: Bir Bir boy Puppy-dog Birkson Mr. Birkson (often when he is being bad) Snufflekins Jos

 Poor Snuffy 1! Cosmic sounds so very very cute! Bir doesn't seem to like squeeky toys very much, he likes soft furry things. He loves stuffed animals! Yesterday he found an old baby book that has a fuzzy cover and started chewing that. And I made him some pillows in sewing in school, and they are all coated with dried slobber now. He loves to play tug of war, and comes running with something in his mouth all the time, inviting us to play with him. Does Cosmic steal things to be his toys? Both Bir and the rottie were on leashes, but when they turned around to sniff each other, Bir's leash got wound around the rotties head. So when they started growling at each other i couldn't just pull him away. But none of them got hurt or anything, but they did try their hardest to bite. Having a cowardly dog can have some advantages, I think. And yes, you have a very sensible dog! Bir is kind of... stupid :) But Bir did something I was very very proud of a few days ago! We were walking and a loose dog without a visible owner came running up to him, and of course they started growling. But when I told him to come, he didn't resist much at all, although he was grumbling alot. Has Cosmic gotten into any fights?

  Thats funny Rosebud! Dogs have so much personality! What does Rocket do to the plants? Hi Bubblezzz! I'm sorry about your boyfriends grandma. Bir is great! He is such a sweet, cute, funny, playfull little puppy-dog. He still has alot to learn, and we're calling him "work in progress", because thats what he kind of is. But hes not pulling nearly as much on the leash, and he is a very, very good boy now when someone goes into Tizzy the guinea pigs room. He loves treats, and sometimes if he has been told to sit, after hes collected the treat and praise for that, he sinks into a lying position to try to get the reward for that too. Even if no ones told him to lie down. And then he doesn't want to stay down, so he just pops right back up without stoping. Its very funny. And he gets the floors all gritty with the dirt he tracks inside. Bir is quite a stupid dog, but brave. He does not like other dogs very much, all males being not nice, and even a few of the females he doesn't like. A few days the idiot (idiot in an affectionate way) tried to get in a fight with a big muscular rottwieler! And that dog was about 3 times Birs size! Thats one of the many things we need to work on. He is just such a wonderous dog! Cosmic sounds like an adorable dog! What kind of toys does he like? What are his favorite games?

I had a stuffed animal once that was a kinda mousey gray color, and he was named Dusty. For S names, and thinking of Rowie-the-Pooh's suggestion of Sugar, how about Sacarin? (Ok, it is kind of stupid. But I haven't thought of that word in ages! And then suddenly I remembered it!)

Thats a good idea, but I doubt it would work with Bir. He hates being closed in, even someone is in there with him. And if he is alone when hes closed in he barks. Which is ok with us, but we live in an apartment building and I'm not sure the neighbors would be so happy to have a dog barking alot. But its worth a try. Thanks!

I'm glad I'm not the only one whose dog shows his displeasure in such a way...

Bir just got a bath, and the house has been cleaned, and he is now doing all the things he isn't suposed to do! He has been picking pieces of paper out of the wastebasket, standing with his front paws on the table and counters, barking, stealing small blankets and stuffed animals. Its like he is showing us how unhappy he is! Does anyone elses dog do this?
-
I guess this is a kind of stupid question, but don't they get cold? How are they in snow? Or just when it gets chilly out?

What does she look like? Whats her personality like?

I'd like to build a house and barn.
LOL I love to hear this mentioned in childrens dreams, so sweet  I think we have all said it
Yeah... but I mean it! I want a barn! And a house too, but the barn comes first, along with the animals inside it! :D

Its fun reading about what youre dreams are! My dream is to do well in school next year, get into the IB program, and go to collage in the USA. Then move out west, maybe to South Dakota or Texas or Colorado or Nebraska or somewhere. Then I'd like to buy lots and lots of land, so I have a huge property in a remote place. I'd like to have a Tahoe car, and get a high paying job not to far from my home. Then, after I've gotten some money I'd like to build a house and barn. After a while I want to stop working at the high paying job to stay home and raise a puppy. I'll already have a few guinea pigs, and maybe a cat or two. As the years go by I'd like to get some more animals, including horses, goats, parakeets, fish and of course more dogs. My ultimate dream is to have a nokill dog shelter. But that does seem a bit impossible. Most of it does. :(

Ooh, thats fun! Congratulations!!! :)

Homemade toys... Share your creations!
imported_nea replied to Crested's topic in Everything about dogs
Bir seems to adopt the toys he likes. So far hes taken a little teddy bear, and a toilet paper roll. The toilet paper roll isn't where he can get to it when someone isn't supervised, but he loves it when I put a treat in it and fold in the edges. I throw it, and he races off to get the treat out.
