PBL: you've been quite lucky that your dog is so tolerant with other dogs. my own pit is highly aggressive (despite being socialized with other dogs as a pup). there are a few things that i think you might be missing (sorry if any of this is repetitive): 1. you cannot train aggression out of a dog. you can control it, but an aggressive dog is an aggressive dog. 2. just because your dog hasn't reacted negatively now, doesn't mean it never will. taking your dog to a dog park is a big chance with pit bulls. example: if a golden retriever attacked your dog, the golden is likely to be injured pretty badly. despite the fact that the golden started it, people are going to see a PIT BULL fighting america's favorite breed. even though your dog is in no way at fault people will automatically place blame on her. you could be facing having to give your dog up for something easily avoidable. of course there's no assurance that the situation would go like that, but it's highly likely. please do some research and more reading and stop taking your dog to the dog park.
Tell me how you got him (breeder, ASPCA, etc) how old he was when you got him, and how you dealt with his aggression. What was the end result? Were you successful? Would you do it again?
we got roxy from a breeder, who turned out to be a dog fighter. she was neglected left in a crate in an unfinished basement until she was three months old (when we got her). she is highly dog aggressive, which we've dealt with in two ways. first and foremost is avoidance. we really avoid anything that might cause a problem. if any dogs are oncoming we go the other way, things like that. the other method is training/distraction. when we see another dog and there is no way of avoiding it, we walk off to the side. roxy gets put in a sit stay and gets treats as long as she remains calm. this is an ongoing process so i can't comment on an end result. so far it's worked for us. would i do it again? absolutely.
REALLY!!! DOG AGGRESSIVE DOGS ARE NOT A PROBLEM???? I disagree with this. In our society today where we live in such close quarters and there are ALOT more people with dogs, and a good percentage being small dogs...a dog aggressive dog is a BIG problem. .
you are entitled to your opinion as i am to mine. i can tell you though, i live in an urban area with a highly dog aggressive pit bull. it is not hard to avoid seedy situations or train your dog to behave properly despite their dog aggressive tendencies. i have yet to have a problem initiated by my dog. the few problems i have had were because of OTHER DOGS who were not controlled by their owners. as a responsible owner, i make sure my dog is not a threat to other dogs. if more owners would do so, this would not even be an issue.

dog aggression is completely unrelated to the logo being used by this company. the picture shows an OBVIOUSLY snarling, unfriendly pit bull. it makes no distinction as to what is being snarled at (dog/person/otherwise), but simply shows a mean-looking dog. the average person is going to see it and think about all the bad things they've heard about pit bulls. they are not going to consider what the dog is snarling at, or what the message trying to be conveyed is. quite simply they will see a vicious pit. that is a negative image. period. and to go back to dog aggression...i know many who will contend that it is not that big of a deal. if owned and handled responsibly, a dog aggressive dog is not a problem. dog aggression is the least of the pit bull's problems.

Do your dogs eat better than you do???
mydogroxy replied to imported_Chimama's topic in Everything about dogs
my dogs eat better than I do BUT I would not like the same meal day after day
rox gets a lot of variety, probably about as much as i do. so HANDS DOWN she eats better than i do. not to mention the 20 minutes i just spent hand filing her nails. :o -
roxy used to have pretty bad gas. now it's only occassional, like when grandma sneaks her a piece of birthday cake or something. she does burp like a teenage boy though! they sound so much like human burps that i've often been accused as the offender! she even opens her mouth to let it out and everything.

i make this same comment alllll the time. i spend so much time searching for good meat and veggies for the dog. plus the preparation! i spend a fraction of the time for myself. she eats shrimp, beef, buffalo, lamb...while i'm chomping on a mcdonald's hamburger. i should try to emulate her diet! -
How much should I feed on a daily basis?
the guidelines say 2-3% of body weight. this is a good place to start, but always be in tune with coal's body. some dogs, because of any number of reasons, eat more or less than this. if he seems constantly hungry and too thin, add more meat. if he's too fat, cut some out. you'll eventually find a good balance.
What are the necessities to add? (Such as flaxseed oil, or any multivitamins ect. ect.) I had several different vitamins I added to Hazel's food, but for the life of me couldn't remember what they were... I remember adding Kelp and Alfalfa to it too though.
i don't use any artificial supps or vitamins. a dog can get everything he/she needs from a good balanced diet. dogs in the wild wouldn't have access to artificial supps, so why give them in a raw diet? that said, i do add oils, apple cider vinegar, and honey now and then.
Would it be easier to switch Cold Turky or gradually?
cold turkey!!! i suspect most dogs getting a mix of raw and kibble would not eat the kibble anyway and just wait until they were given more raw. good luck!
Why not build privacy fencing at least 6ft high and there is no need then to chain your dogs.
that's not neccesarily true. many dogs, pit bulls included, can easily clear a six foot fence.
and enough of the "troll" thing, everybody jumps on the troll wagon when somebody says something they dont like. Im expressing my opinions and dont expect you to like them. I dont have to agree with yours.
you are rude and insulting. that is why we are calling you a troll. if you honestly want to have interesting conversations, start phrasing your posts in a more respectable manner. if that's too much to ask, well then, go away.

BOSTON TERRIER(just ugly) GERMAN SHEPARDS(back legs dont straighten out) PEEKINGEESE(mushed in face, snorts a lot) mean dogs. PIT BULLS GERMAN SHEPARDS I guess I can understand why some like the mean dogs, they think they are macho or cool when they have one-whatever! but the ugly dogs, why do people like them? are they blind people? Why do you think they like them?
as yes, i see we are unfamliar with the standards of the english language, eh? but yes of course you're right! kiwi, where are those bull terrier noses? how do they even breathe without noses? k and anyone else with those freakish smoosh faced dogs...didn't you know snorting is ugly!?! oh and those shepherds...how do they even walk with those legs that don't straighten? someone should really do something about birth deformities like that. i mean, they'd still be ugly AND mean, but maybe a little less ugly. and yep, i own a pit bull because it makes me macho. i also have tons of tattoos and throw rocks at old ladies. and let me tell you, roxy sure does make me look even tougher when she flops down in the middle of the sidewalk and rolls around on her back. oohhh scary! GO AWAY. YOU ARE DUMB AND PROBABLY UGLY AND MEAN. (what's up with the trolls lately?)
That's fine when people share on different boards to protect animals and expose BYB's and scum like RnP. But when you have people who just jump on the bandwagon on everyone else's coat tails just to dump on other people because they have "issues" with their dogs (such as dropping dog crates on them, letting them jump out of windows on the highway and swallowing rope toys) that is NOT ok. They shouldn't be saying ANYTHING about anybody. They need to get their own situation under control and stop questioning others.
you are disgusting. what is your point bringing up drama COMPLETELY UNRELATED to this thread? jaq never lied about a thing, rott did. my last words on the rott thing: rott, you are a wretched human being. you pretend to be something you are not and fooled a lot of people along the way. you know what you've done is wrong, which is why you felt the need to lie. sadly, you aren't someone who doesn't know any better. you've been educated on the many boards you visit, yet you still choose to put your own selfish desires ahead of your dogs' needs and welfare. shame on you for claiming to have "rescued" diallo. you're byber. you don't deserve to have the love of a dog. much less the love of a pit bull. do your dogs a favor and give them to someone who actually cares. MY breed doesn't need people like you.
-
divine...he didn't say he cut them off himself. initially he was saying the breeder had a vet do it, but eventually he just started coming right out and saying the breeder did the crop.
-
i vote for a ban. i don't think anyone here WANTS to believe rott is doing any of this, if only for the sake of the dogs. but how feasible is it that someone (or multiple people) dislike rott enough to steal his dogs pictures and pictures of his friends dogs, one three seperate occassions and use them to try and sell/breed the dogs? especially from a mere internet relationship? it just isn't believable. looking back at rott's posts, he has always made contradictory, suspicious statements (anti-byb/goes and buys diallo...altered dogs/wait, no theyre not...etc.). there is ways too much circumstantial evidence here to look the other way. and as for other boards...yes, we look terrible in the handling of this whole situation. while they're are some people who refuse to believe he's innocent, there are also people (here) who seem to refuse to believe he's guilty. dogo is a good place and this whole mess has given it a very bad name.
First off.... what makes these boards and the people who post on them so reputable?
i think running one of the most well respected pit bull rescues in the country qualifies someone as reputable. the board in question has many involved in rescue, not to mention diane jessup. as for the whole email thing... the email used to hold the auction was the same email used to register on the pb by rott. rott claims to have emailed the person holding the auction. why would he send an email to his own email account?
The issue here is not breeding, co-ownership, whether the dog is neutered or not, yada, yada, yada. The issue at hand is whether Drey was being sold on an online auction. That's it.
no, that was the straw that broke the camel's back. there are a lot of issues here, but drey being put up for auction brought everything to a head. there are still things this board is unaware of which is why some of us are making such a big deal over this.
-
Why is it such a big deal to some people here that Deja is co-owned?
no one has a problem that deja is co-owned. that's not the issue. what some of us have a problem with is that all along rott made posts saying all of his dogs were fixed. then, all of a sudden, deja is not fixed, the reasoning being that she is co-owned and going to be shown (which also doesn't sound right). it's the fact that he was misleading by saying all of his dogs were fixed that is the issue.

"is that a blue pit bull?" while looking at roxy, a fawn and white rednose.

i would also like to hear what rnp has to say, but honestly do you think he's going to come here or any board for that matter and say "yes, i am a dirtbag who lied to everyone."? he's not. there are a lot of things about his situation that don't add up which makes me think this is for real. 1. the pure hypocracy that comes from this person is rediculous. he makes posts everywhere about preserving the breed and urges people to rescue, but himself exclusively buys oversized blues from bybers. 2. he has had four dogs in the past two years. one, already disappeared, apparently stolen. he has made posts about deja leaving soon also. and now this auction? what's with the revolving door of dogs? 3. he has stated numerous times that all of his dogs are neutered. but then goes on to say how he must diligently keep deja and drey seperated because she's in heat. suddenly she's not really fixed because she's not really his, but co-owned. 4. if drey is fixed why does he need to be kept away from deja? no puppies should result from any incidental humping. 5. to be blunt, drey still has visible man parts. how many people do you know of who actually have nueticals put in their dogs? visible testicles coupled with the fact that he can't be around deja when she's in heat points to an intact dog. i can't think of anything else right now, but i'm sure there's more. it's damn incriminating if you ask me.

you beat me to it.
we need to let Rott answer this....many dogs look the same, and a lot of people have daughters....let Rott have his say.
yes, many dogs do look alike, but those very pictures have been posted on numerous boards. it's a disgusting situation.

YEY!!! congrats, he' s a lucky dog.
