Hobbit sire was definately not another dog each time he breeds these two there are one or two solids .Here is a picture of the pups except for mine The one on the far right was the lightest one and he had one blue eye ,the black and white one has more white than my little bitch . The father had small white star covering chest , mother has white chest and thin blaze only , with two blue eyes .This guy is the only person on record having breed a full litter of blue merles (7 of them) and he is very anti white I have pictures of parents but Im having trouble posting them so Ill email them to you .

Hobbit got a question as you know my breed is predominately merle coloring and about 6months ago I aquired a black and white female who is from a red merle father and a blue merle mother. The mother is from a blue merle to blue merle mating and the father is from a red merle to solid red mating. How did two pups in this litter end up solid here is a photo

I see where your coming from Bensam in theory it makes sense but there are visable differences in working Vs show If I saw a b/collie down the street I could tell you what it was bred for purely for looks of course there are exceptions to the rules  I suppose you could use a saying the old farmers say to me (many are biased against koolies) "theres no such thing as a bad colored dog" in other words working ability is what we use to guage a dogs worth (naturally they must be sound as well) :)

Got Shady on Sunday and she is gorgeous!! Definately will be taking photos today(Monday) as I have a film that needs to be used up and it has Hobbits kelpie photos on it as well .I didnt breed Jet the pup I sent away I got her at 12 weeks to train her and get her started on stock not that its any easier to hand them over  !! But my new girl is a good distraction I went trialling yesterday with my boy Ollie and we came second (again) but this time we got a groovie ribbon and a cheque !! So it was a good day . This morning I pulled out my Shady (and usually I give them a couple of weeks to bond before trying any work) and decided to give her a look ,she's 2.5 yrs old never seen sheep .Well strike me down !! she cast out beautifully gathered up goats and sheep and brought them to me nearly died of shock usually when they start they'll ring (run around in a full circle round the sheep) the sheep and you have to block them to teach them to stay opposite but not her looked like she'd been doing it all her life I was directing her by pointing a finger .I tell you it's a real thrill to see good natural instincts and depending on how she goes in the yards I reckon she'll be trialling in a couple of months  Cant wait till I can try more stuff with her just got to be patient and let her settle in!!

No amount of emails or letters will change the procedures of AKC because it is a controlling body over many different breeds If you were to put the showies and even obedience and agility people in one corner and the herding people in another they are worlds apart .As a herding person the thought of people breeding dogs for looks not what the dogs were bred for originally is horrible So much effort was put into creating these working dogs in the first and yet people come along and wipe it out in half a dozen generations to make it look pretty .Sorry to anyone who shows dogs but it just makes me mad to see a breed ruined :( The reason for the difference in looks is the gene pool of the registration that the dog is registered in by being registered in say the AKC they would for example prefer a thick longer coat because it looks nice where as in a working situation it would be a pain in the backside so the dog with the heavy coat gets registered in the AKC and the dog thats got a shorter coat thats thinner would suit the working b/collie registration So that sort out you have 10 dogs in each so naturally each person breeds in the register that their dog is register in otherwise its not a pure bred (and cannot be register the same as the parent) So by this happening the gene pool is reduced to 10 dogs not 20 dogs and the traits that are prefered by the different clubs start to be doubled up and become strong hence the different looks of the show dogs and the original start to become apparent Now to us people looking for the original traits that the dog was bred for look at these other dogs and think they have been ruined as we have selected the breed as we admire what they were breed for originally This is why the two organizations are worlds apart and are never going to meet half way Sorry this is such a long post but this is something that shouldnt happen but does and it greatly upsets me as Im sure it does for anyone with working dogs

Have you had her checked out by a vet to check there is no infections or anything? :o

What sort of sentancing do people get in the U.S for cruelty K? I know in Australia its not near enough usually just a slap on the wrist and a suspended sentance

Cant wait till Sunday getting a new girl to train hopefully for trials . Her names Shady Lady and shes absolutely beautiful !! On a sad note one of the pups I've start is going back to her daddy  I hate it when they go home it's too sad but I know her owner well and she will be spoilt rotten and I get to see her lots !

yellow labs have you considered an older rescue dog at least you'll know what your getting temperment build ect and you can start right away .Sure you may not get the pedigree thing for showing and as for the breeding maybe it would be better to not get into this at this stage until you know more about your breed (which ever one you choose) I do herding with my dogs and I know that my first koolie wasnt an ideal specimen because I lacked experience with the breed I was also new to herding trials with him so we made quite a few mistakes and learnt a lot as we went along (Id done herding but not trialling) so give it some serious thought And what a great feeling you'd get also from saving a dog

This is stolen from the site http:/www.greytalk.com/~kbeck/forum/index.php A DARK AND STORMY NIGHT They were together in the house, Just the two of them, It was a cold and stormy night, The storm had come quickly and each time the thunder boomed he watched her jump, She looked across the room and admired his strong appearance.........and wished that he would take her in his arms, comfort her and protect her from the storm She wanted that more than anything Suddenly without any warning the power went out..... She screamed He raced to the sofa where she was cowering He didnt hesistate to pull her into his arms He knew this was a forbidden union and expected her to pull back He was surprized when she didnt resist but instead clung to him The storm raged on..........as did their growing passion And there came a moment when each knew that they had to be together They knew it was wrong Their families would never understand So consumed were they in their passion that they heard of no opening of the door............ just the faint click of a camera

Isnt it great to hear one less horrid person abusing animals I only hope the sentance reflects the crime
-
Find an animal they are terrified of (prefferable one that will rip them to pieces) and lock them in a room and throw away the key What was their excuse for this ?
-
Could come in handy to have dog pee on husband when he wont behave !! husband that is (he he )
-
I got a collie ! I wish I had hair like that
-
Maybe that means you've got a big attitude science doc you know what those little dogs can be like  Rowie you should be back in school (he he )
-
Mouse it probably depends on the breed of dog black/blue has a herding dog !!
-
That should read not vicious WOOPS!
-
Fruit loops arent they ! My sisters dog was vicious thats why it took her so long to figure out what was going wrong with her chooks  Its the fatest happy go lucky Kelpie your ever likely to meet but she was unsupervised and this is not a good idea for a herding dog(whether it works or not) to be left with stock
-
Good for a laugh  check this site to find out what sort of dog you are! http://www.emode.com/dog/result.jsp sorry I cant make it clickable maybe someone else can :BIG: P.S Im a lassie dog mmm lots of hair!!!
-
Totally agree Bensam but then what is considered humane slaughter shotgun , Knife  maybe this needs to be spelt out as well I dont know just curious as to other peoples thoughts :-?
-
Hey black we nearly had roast chook the other day one wandered into our yard from goodness knows where and it was pretty quiet so I thought Id catch it but it kept staying just out of my reach (no doubt would have been funny if it wasnt me chasing the bloody thing) so I pull out my dog who is well trained herding I cast him around the chook and world war 3 errupted the chook ran my dog went deaf the dogs snapping at the chook (he thought it was his next meal) feathers went flying and it finally ran into the dog run and I caught it and give it to my sister needless to say I wont be getting chooks in the near future !! A friend of mine trains his Kelpies on ducks reckons they bring out the herding instinct stronger than sheep and they are cheaper to keep . My sister has a Kelpie a big fat pet one and she couldnt figure out why her chooks were going bald she finally realize the dog was herding them and once she got them in a corner she would lay on them and lick them to death poor chooks!!
