Its a bloody disgrace!! I put my vote in .I cant understand why people would want a pet that wasnt speyed its so much hassel when the bitches are on heat or are running around trying to find a girl friend As a breeder myself I know how careful you have to be and all my dogs are housed seperately I dont believe in accidents but for the unwary it can easily happen :evilbat: :robot: I was thinking the same thing as you bensam about voting twice arent we evil!!!!

Love your pup shes a real cute good luck with the name thing .It always takes me ages and I have been known to rename puppies several times!!

Scooter go for it your never to young to learn and your mum will probably be there to watch anyway if you have problems

I dont think you can blame the golden for agression. My dog was in a similar situation he was the one getting mounted by the shearers dog and he reacted the same as the golden and yet my dog is well socialized and of a very friendly temperment I have 8 dogs and he never fights with any of them but what your dog was doing was very aggressive and I admit I wasnt happy with the shearer at the time. I felt he was just protecting himself . I am lucky though that I can call him out of that type of situation

I havent actually tried ducks yet dont have the set up for them (housing etc) but Im seriously interested as we have a drought on at the moment and feeding the sheep is getting real expensive . I have a freind that breeds them and they work the dogs on them so I guess she will be passing on ones that have already been worked ! Also Hobbit found a site on some genetics regarding b/c working traits if you want it let me know.

I was told that Indian Runner ducks were good for herding as they cant fly and they stick together well could you use any breed and clip wings? A friend of mine who competes with Kelpies says the instincts kick into overdrive with the ducks and so the dogs work like they are at a trial because the excitement goes up a notch . Im hopeful of getting some soon but also wondered if some ducks might intimidated younger dogs(say 6months -10 months) and do they tame up like sheep ?

I had this problem with one of my dogs and was completely disgusted by it then I realized that he only did that when they had their serve of raw bones and meat as my dogs live in runs it was just a case of cleaning up real quick !!! but if I was you Id keep saying no mabey in a stronger voice and another thought might be to offer the dog a treat if they respond to the command for some positive reinforcement.

I reckon it might be a reflex action I have a dog that does that and also if you scratch him on the back near his tail he nibbles and defleas me ( I tried to tell him I havent got fleas but he wont listen !!~).

I had a working dog that was a fair worker but used to bark non stop drove me insane I keep my dogs in runs and when they backed I used to tell them to get to bed but I couldnt say that in a working situation as he would have gone home to his bed so I decided to retrain them to quiet ,so I did it in the runs for a week and my dogs will bark on command and then transferred it to the yards with sheep and no more barking ! I guess i am just lucky hes a very intellegent doggie weve had some really interesting ways of training !!!!!!!!!!! and hes taught me some valuable stuff

What kind of food do you guys feed your dogs????
ShadyLady replied to eggrolyn1223's topic in Nutrition
I have feed my dogs on dry food (medium price range) and raw bones for many years and after a vet check for my pregnant bitch the vet recommended supercoat puppy(extra calcium) and the difference in her general appearance was amazing she has a fair bit of white coloring and after feeding her this it actually sparkled like it had a hairproduct in it needless to say I have keep to it for all my dogs. I think the proof is in the dog its general appearance will tell you if it is workingfor your dog  -
Maybe you should ask your instructor advice on this one as not being able to see the dog makes it very hard for any of us to give advice and it is important you know what your dogs personality is

Had no idea I would miss my dog so much
ShadyLady replied to Micheline099's topic in Everything about dogs
Just an idea but what if you use a babies grow suit they undo at the bottom for tail and could be left open for a little bit of toilet action just make sure it wasnt to snug  -
Ive got a lab x ret. and she was about 2yrs old before she gave up on chewing and stealing shoes!!!!! Then she took up digging whooping great holes in the garden to sun herself in .She used to be my horse riding dog and quite happily jumped up on the front of a horse for a ride when we'd covered too many miles I got here over the radio for a slab of beer( everything was sold over the radio due to distance over there) I no that sound irresponsible but at the time dogs other than sheep dogs were hard to find where I lived .Shes been through a number of life changes will me and is now 12yrs old I dread the day she will no longer be with me but the vet tells me shes the healthiest senior citizen hes seen in a long time Her name suits her down to the ground although in the first few years I wasnt quite so sure it is ANGEL

Granites where do people get the idea you can make money from breeding pups I must be doing something wrong because Im pleased if I can get my moneyback from any litter I breed by the time you pay for vaccinations worming good quality feed for the bitch not to mention if something goes wrong (vets bills) etc etc I only breed now every couple of years because of time restraints and puppies do take a lot of work cleaning kennels feeding handling going to vets .So please think it through and listen to people like Granites who know what they are talking about Also another point is that these puppies will not be carbon copies of your dog so just because you love your dog and maybe you think it would be nice to reproduce one like him it wont necessarily happen all dogs have their own personalities .Hope this doesnt sound too harsh but really look at the big picture

Hey Hobbit did you get my email and pictures?

Back again having one of those bad computer days nothing willWORK!!!! Firstly by solid I mean red black with or without white. The merle colour is very similar to an Aussie it has been suggested the koolie/geman coolie is included in their background no actual proof though but its a strong rumour in Australia . I can be reached at paintedkoolie@iprimus.com.au and am more than happy to talk about my breed( who isnt ) unfortunately I dont have a web site yet as Im not real crash hot with the computer I really want to put a picture of my dog when I post a reply but I got no idea!!!!!!!

Thanks mags and mei-mei I am very interested in these dogs as they share many of the traits of my breed eg merle , glass eyes , blind and deafness problems and my dogs are also herding .Does this breed work cattle and sheep ? And what exactly is hog driving I checked out a couple of sites and I am really keen to learn more about them and if anyone owns one and can tell me what personality their dog has I would love for you to send me an email at paintedkoolie@iprimus.com.au thanks

Hi Guys, I have a breed that produces 80% merles (red and blue) and I use them for working and have found no difference in the personalities of either I personally think that it would be similar to say that blondes are more silly or brunettes are smarter (ha ha ) .I certainly agree that working dogs should only be kept in backyards with owners responsible enough to understand their dogs needs (mental and physical) Oh and we do have solid colours in our breed as well
-
Stumbled across this breed on the web and am interested to know what they are like temperment , soundness history etc ? If anyone knows of a web site for them can you please post it

Dear Guest I do not make pups for money and anyone who has reared a healthy litter would know that the costs involved in raising a litter just about outweigh the price recieved for the pups 90% of my pups go to farming homes to work therefor the owners quite often work with them all day and it is probable that they know enough about dogs to select their own pups with a particular job in mind .The pups are selected by personality for particular jobs eg. paddock work ,yard work . I personally have knocked back potentual buyers for being idiots and not suitable for owning dogs so dont preach to me when you dont know what your talking about.
Dear Guest, For your information yes I do adapt my training methods according to the dog . I offer a money back guarntee to all my puppies and as yet have never had one returned and yes I have a data base with all the owners details and contact them from time to time as I consider them to be friends I am also the register for a club of this breed . If I am asked to help with selection of a pup I certainly can point them in the right direction but I think most people have enough instinct to select the right pup When people are purchasing a puppy from me they usually get it for working purposes and each working job requires a different personality but with you being the expert you would know all about herding and the different roles dogs play in this . I would also like to make it clear that i am not a fulltime breeder I breed for my own stocks and requirements and each of my puppies are a much loved and well planned addition but of course I forgot your the expert you would already know that

hi there , Ive got 8 german coolies(koolie) ranging from age 4months old to 6yrs old . We do sheep dog trials and absolutely love it my main dog Ollie is blue merle and white ,he has one blue eye and one brown eye .We went to the victorian championship and scored an 83/100 we were rapt . The german coolie is supposedly an ancestor to the Aussie shepherd they share similar coloring although most have short hair. The day I met a coolie was the day I fell in love. Ive had other breeds but these dogs captured my heart.

smooshie , your right it doesnt matter if we have names or not let just keep it friendly and ignor rude people I personally think they just try and inflame us on purpose working koolie

To the last guest, I did not suggest RANDOMLY outcrossing I suggested outcrossing with other quality dogs from a reputable breeder who has no doubt more experience than a novice breeder anyway and can be of great assistance with advice on whelping and rearing healthy pups.Did you not see the word RESEARCH mentioned in my last post ? I dont know if your the last guest I spoke to but either way I will not be responding to this anymore
