1. Wow...I haven't seen Bodybreak since I moved out of London! That big muscular woman always terrified me  (is she still on there?). I don't think we get it down here in the States. You're right though...it usually has pretty useful health tips, but that dog food info is BAD...they must be getting sponsorship from Purina...ughhh Let us know if you get a response!
 2. yes..please let us know what the vet says! It does seem strange that he has become disinterested in people...
 3. Could it be that Jada is tiring him out, playing? My male is 3 and a half yrs old....was neutered at a year and a half. I haven't had him since puppyhood, but he is all Boxer and has always had a great amount of energy for walks and play sessions. In the past month and a half, since we brought Lyra home, I have noticed he seems more distracted and worn out...doesn't want to walk as long...isn't as interested in playing the second I come home. I think it is just because he wrestles and playfights so much with Lyra now (she is 15 months old...barely more than a puppy, and FULL of energy) that he is honestly just tired out.
 4.
Love Bostons!! They make great house dogs because they are rather intolerant of a lot of heat or cold so don't need huge amounts of outdoor exercise. Greyhounds are also intolerant of extreme temperatures and are couch potatoes, but do need a good run once or twice a week in a safe area. I think either of those would be an excellent choice. And that's the Tall and the Short of it.
Also, for those exact same reasons, Boxers don't make bad apartment dogs either...most don't enjoy spending great amounts of time outdoors in the extremes...especially without their human companions...Boxers are notorious velcro dogs  . They also aren't reknowned for barking without good reason. My male doesn't bark at ALL.He did excellent in an apartment before I got my house...he is a big couch potato.Of course you have to be commited to frequent potty walks, and a good vigorous 20 minute exercise session a day, but I think that holds true for a lot of breeds. Good luck with your search, and keep us posted! :D
 5. FINALLY...a "cool" day in Florida (its only 82 degrees here right now) It rained all morning, but it was well worth it...it cooled things down, now its still overcast, but there's a nice ocean breeze...My dogs are lovin it! thry HATE the heat :-?
 6. :D thanks for the advice, Majie and TDG...I will definately look into getting her allergy tested....funny my vet didn't bring this up. His solution was to put her on Science Diet  which I flat out refuse to do. The only reason I was considering the switch to Burns is because so many Boxer people that I talk to recommended it. I tried California Natural awhile back, and my male refused to eat it, so I stopped....but I will definately look into the Natural Balance. I'm hoping to find a food that both of them do well on, so that I don't have to feed 2 different kinds. Thanks Again!
 7.
I'm really sorry you're going through this - It must be very hard on your and your family... Please don't bash me as this is an honest question - I don't know anything about rotties... Why would anyone try to rehome a human-aggressive dog that is large enough to take down a human - Who has lashed out and bitten a child in the past? Is human aggression an accepted trait in rotties? Is this considered 'normal' behavior? The only breed I really have experience with are APBTs - And I know in this breed human aggression is NOT tolerated by responsible owners. Maybe things are different with rotts (due to being bred for a different purpose, etc)...?
I believe Sasha is correct....from what I gather, the dog is not human aggressive, it is just VERY dog aggressive...it is very dangerous to try and manually break up two fighting dogs...... and from what I remember, the PAST dog bite that you mentioned was more like an accidental "head butt" while playing....different situation...AND different dog, if I remember correctly :niewiem:
 8. Pathetic excuse for a human being  emptying not one but TWO weapons into a retreating dog...that just wins the prize :x
On another note, if someone threatened to shoot my dog, I certainly would not leave my dog in the backyard unsupervised, especially if it had a history of getting out.
If my neighbors were that psycho, I'd move out of the neighborhood. period.
 9. How about Greyfriars Bobby? The little Skye Terrier that guarded over his late master's grave for 14 yrs, til he died. I saw the monument in Edinburgh a few yrs ago...its beautiful. Also how about Chips? The collie shepherd mix.
A member of General George Patton’s Army, Chips waded ashore at Sicily with the other soldiers. An enemy machine gun nest suddenly opened up, however. Chips, unmindful of his safety, lunged into the nest even though a bullet had already pierced his body. When American soldiers came up to Chips, he had one enemy soldier by the throat. The rest had either fled or surrendered.Chips would have gone down as the most decorated dog in history, but his medals caused an uproar among the American public.
10. What a great topic !....I apologise in advance for getting long winded... When I was little, we always had small dogs. My mom had two Pekingese (her babies) and we had a corgi/terrier mix. I always wanted a big dog, though my parents wouldn't agree to it. Well when I was 12, we moved to a new house. The previous owners had a golden/GSD mix that they couldn't take with them, so they had given it to the neighbors...well,the dog ("Brandy") decided she wasn't having any of that, and so she kept escaping from their yard and coming to our house. She would just sit on our front step with the saddest look on her face... This happened pretty much every day for a month, and my dad kept bringing her back to her new owners. Finally one day my dad just decided, thats it...this dog belongs here and he went and talked to the owner...they agreed and thats how I got my first BIG dog. She was awesome. She was with me for 6 wonderful yrs. After that I was hooked on big dogs (or at least medium sized ones) . My sister had Boxers, and my brother had PitBulls, so I spent a lot of time with these two breeds, and I just fell in love with them. When I got out on my own, I just knew that when the time was right for me to get a dog, it was going to be either a Boxer or a Pitbull...they both have such wonderful personalities. I guess the final decision to get a Boxer was made mostly because at the time I was renting ..and we all know how hard it is to find landlords that will accept a PitBull....and besides, Boxers have those adorable little mushy faces...I just can't resist  Soooo now I have Loki and Lyra, and I couldn't imagine life without them.
 11. I'm sorry to hear about your situation :( ...I know it must be difficult, but you've tried to work with them and the fighting isn't getting any less. Its just not worth taking the risk. Re homing one of them is probably the best thing for your family, AND Patti...your son is very lucky that he didn't get hurt any worse than he did...I hope he is ok. It is better to make the decision to find her a new home now then wait for something tragic to happen and have to make the decision to euthanize. Is there anyone in your family that could take Patti as an only dog? If not I would contact a reputable rescue....they could help you find a suitable home for her. Best of luck
 12.
ok, gotcha... nothing.... right... distractions... well, the kitty would not work well in this case as we would probably be stuck chasing the hunky boy... :-? Maybe a couple of T-Bones for him... And to distract the "people" who will try and stop us... (Cute pictures of pit bull and boxer puppies?)
:o ...oh...I see how it works...turn my back for a second and boom CONSPIRACY!!!.....now where is K???..oh and you'd stoop so low as to use the HEAVY artillery I see...PUPPIES :o (oh the humanity!!)....must find K, and stop the tyranny of Doctor Octavious....oh wait...no, thats Spiderman.....
 13. My female Boxer has some food allergy issues and Burns' Pet Nutrition was recommended to me on several Boxer boards that I post on http://www.burns-pet-nutrition.co.uk/index.htm I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this food?...I ordered a bag of Chicken and Brown Rice online (they offer free delivery) just to try it out. here are the ingredients: Brown Rice & Chicken is suitable for all adult dogs, and because it is low in protein and oil is ideal for the older dog . It is naturally preserved with vitamin E and Rosemary oil, contains no wheat, soya, added colourings, beef or dairy ingredients, artificial flavourings or preservatives, and no genetically modified ingredients. We guarantee that no battery raised chicken are used in our products Analysis: Protein 18.5%, Oil 7.5%, Fibre 2.2% contains Brown Rice, Chicken, Oats, Peas, Chicken Oil, Sunflower Oil, Seaweed, Minerals and Vitamins.
 14. I'm with everyone else on this....is there a reason you HAVE to keep him/her outside? Some people have the misconception that the large guardian breeds such as the GSD are happiest living outdoors, but speak to any of the owners of those breeds on this board and I am sure they will tell you otherwise. Most dogs are happiest when they can be part of the family. :D As for "kicking an intruder's a**"...as an inexperienced dog owner, I really don't think that should be your optimum goal....having a trained protection dog is a big responsibility...not to mention a liability, and should not be undertaken by a novice, otherwise you end up with a large people aggressive menace on your hands. I understand your concerns, since you had to go thru such a terrifying experience, but as everyone above has mentioned...a better alarm system or an inside dog with an intimidating bark is a safer way to go IMO ... oh and welcome to Dogo.....Daryl is adorable!!! :D
 15. I am so sorry to hear about your Apollo.....sending hugs your way
 16.
Whenever I see a dog sniffing and scratching in one particular area in the house (or outside even), I look for an infestation, usually termites.
:o .....eeeek....Lyra has been sniffing in the corner of the office a LOT lately....gawd I hope its not termites........
 17.
I love the correct Bullmastiff and Boxer type look, not sure why....must be the sad look
I'm with Shannon on this one....NOT that I'm biased or anything  ...I just loOOOooove any kind of Smooshie faced dog. Aside from that, Pitties run a close second...followed by Sibe's and Dobe's

 19.
Smooshie, you will have to give me directions to get to some of those dog beaches near Tampa. Whenever we visit the in-laws. (Palm Harbor) We take the girls, and Sasha LOVES the beach... Tell me, are they all offleash? And if so, are they generally really crowded... (Life is hard with dog aggressive dogs)
I'm pretty positive they are all offleash Sasha, but let me check on that for you just to make sure the rules haven't changed....we haven't taken Loki to the dog beaches in over a year because he won't go in the water  , soooo we've been sticking to just the regular dog parks. I'll ask around and PM you the info :D

It is a beautiful area...and there are some awesome dog parks and beaches down that way (Sanibel and Captiva Islands are both dog friendly). I know what you mean about falling in love with this place...I'm originally from Canada, and we moved down here almost 5 years ago...we moved back up north briefly 3 years ago, but we missed it so much we came back after only 6 months. Tammy...I know of a few different dog beaches in the TB area....Davis Island, the Gandy Bridge Causeway, and the Bellaire dogbeach. I can just imagine your Pom out paddling around in the water...too cute!
