-
LOL yep! Tomatos for all!!!! :bday:
-
Awww, thanks guys :beerchug: :HUT012: They took a photo at training with her, the other winning dog and us owners so I think we're going to appear in the clubs magazine  Though I will take a heap of photos of her and both her ribbons when I get some film, what else would I bother taking photos of when I have a prize winning dog in the house??? :iloveyou:

It was graduation day at dog training on Sunday, I'd had a farewell party for my best friend the night before, so needless to say I wasn't much on the ball, so thankfully Lily was!!!! Only two dogs in her whole class graduated to level two, and yep... she was one of them!!! So I've got yet another second place ribbon to hang on my wall thanks to Lily :D The dog who came first was a lab whose owner has experience in trial obedience, so I think we did rather well. Three cheers to Lily!!! :drinking:

Crested, firstly I'd like to say what a gorgeous dog Ben is!!!! :D Secondly, I'd like to say congrats on the decision to get him desexed. I'm still paying Lilys desexing off but I'm so glad I've had her done now, ontop of everything else I don't have to worry about her getting pregnant or having a high risk of getting certain cancers. Kinda off the topic, but my friend was saying the other day how one day a while back their male dog, Kirby raped their gorgeous bitch, Taffy. Anyways, what happend is that they found Taffy lying in the yard not moving and she would yelp whenever they picked her up so they took her to the vets and it turned out she had internal bleeding. Ouch, not only that but she was pregnant too :( Another reason to desex female dogs! I don't know about Ben but desexing should prevent him humping things and posibly make him stop being quite so uncertain about other dogs because he will possibly feel less competition? I'm not sure, but lets hope so anyway  I know what you mean about your neighbours dog, its the most frustrating thing when someone elses careless behavior conditions your dog in such a way it may never be cured :evilbat: Like our neighbours letting their kids harrass Lily to the point she gets her hackles up, barks and growls at every kid she meets

Thanks Hazel, I must admit I do have some difficulties with that last one though... Oh, another that got left out "No matter what you've done wrong, pull a cute face and the world will forgive you"
-
Yeah well I'm going to share the story with everyone seeing as its too much of a good story not to share!!!! I'm just amazed at how much better she is!!! We will definately be having a much more relaxed and fun time, especially with competition day coming up where she'll graduate and then they always have all these doggie games  She'll be ready for agility soon too! :D

Yeah aight, I'll keep ya'll posted. Havn't heard any more on the pup yet, can't stop thinking about it though. I especially can't wait until we get the house, it'll be great.... just us and the dogs and a few other people (its a 5 bedroom place). The chem assignments still getting to me though, I know I wont be able to read the text book and do the work by the time its due in (two days) so I'll have to get dad to help me through it. To top it off I just realised I have a biology assignment due soon too, it'll be ok though because it'll be a little more interesting... have to research an australian desert animal.... thinking of one of those lizard things (just about to look it up now). Mums leaving soon too so thats alot of stress off my back. Had a talk to my ex who apologised and had a fair excuse for what happend (long story) but to be honest I'm sick of his apologys and excuses, its a terrible feeling when you finally realise its over and its never going to work, but I think thats what I've just accepted and I'm feeling kinda vunerable at the moment, good thing I've got great friends to look after me  , one of thems taking me to lunch tomorrow for some comfort food :fadein: Can't wait to get the pup though!!!! :D
-
Haha, I love it!!!! Its my parents exactly... Mum -
Daisykatep: Here's what she's saying: "Darling, you haven't gone out with the garbage yet! Oh, and the kitches sink needs cleaning, the flowers need watering, the furniture needs dusting... Haven't you fixed that broken door yet?? Oh, do I have to do everything myself?! It seems like I'm the only one doing anything in this house! When did you think you would clean the floors and take the kids to the dogpark?? Oh, the bold and the beautifull just started..."
Meanwhile dad is standing in the kitchen doing the dishes with earphones to block out the noise as mum sits at the computer and says all this stuff

:D :D :D You know how I was having all those problems with Lily trying to fight every dog she came across? Well, as you know, I got her desexed the other week hoping it may stop at least some of the agression. Well I took her to training this morning and it was like I had a whole knew dog! As soon as we got there she started bouncing the end of her lead to get to the Pit Bull, who is the friendliest dog at training so I thought "we'll let them meet and see how they go". Within seconds the two dogs are jumping ontop of each other going crazy, just playing!!! And it got better, Lily wanted to play with every single dog she saw all morning and didn't start a single fight!!!! Its a dream come true... only thing is that normally she's the most obedient dog at training, always 100% focused on me, well today she was so busey trying to get to the other dogs she wouldn't listen to a word I said! I'm not complaining though, I havn't seen her like this since she was 6 months old! Its wierd though, who would have thought desexing a dog could change its behavior so drastically for the better??? :beerchug:
-
Hey, thats me to the bone!!! Oh gawd, I'm such a dog!!!
-
Bk, of course I'll post pics!!!! Nothings definate yet, the pups are only 6 weeks old and we're hoping Chris doesn't decide he doesn't want to give the pups away for free. Thanks Hazel, I hope it all works out too... although even if it doesn't work out as planned I'm sure it will work out just great! I'll keep you all posted though. Uni's ok, sort of. I'm enjoying it but the study load is alot more than I expected... it seems all my uni friends always have time to do whatever they feel like, even Fiona who's sitting on a credit average through all her subjects, yet for me it seems I don't have a second to spare, and if I do spare a second I'm ripping my hair out because I'm falling so far behind. It seems Psychology is easy enough to keep up with, Socyology is so boring and easy its not funny, biology is hard, I didn't realise how hard until I did a test the other day and couldn't answer anything. Chemistry though, its just riddiculous, I spend so much time on it I can't even look at the book anymore without being overcome by stress and confusion, I'm spending all my time on that and can't even look at any of the other subjects, which is why Biology is also so hard because all I know is these confusing notes I take in lectures that I don't even get a chance to look over and havn't even had a chance to open the text book :( It's all putting me on such a downer, between that and my ex being a complete bastard (he did the unthinkable last night, the worst thing anyones ever done to me and I can't beleive that of all people he would do that to me) and me having no money and not enough time, my best friend since primary school leaving in a week to travell with her boyfriend (why is it always me who can't find a decent boyfriend?) and dads court case being adjurned... again, so thats just got the whole family stressed and just everything else going on at the moment, its all sending me crazy and I don't know what to do :( And I want a job and could probably get one but I don't even have enough time to have a coffee with my friends in the morning... they keep calling me to see if I want to go to coffee etc and I feel so bad always having to say no to my best friends.... and the more I think about it all the worse it seems!!! Oh, I think I might go to bed now so I can sleep off this mild depression. LOL, well thanks for asking anyway!!! No, really it feels good to get some things off your chest :-?

At Uni the other day a friend of mine came and asked if I wanted a Labrador pup worth $400 for free!!! Well, it was sooo tempting... but being as broke as I am already with my other two dogs, I had to say no. So he was like "ok" and asked Fiona if she'd like one. Of course she did, she loves dogs!!!! But she lives in college and can't own a dog there... so of course I volunteered to look after him until we can find a house and move out together :D Of course I had to check with mum and dad when I got home, I asked mum first and she was like "I wouldn't let you do it, but I'm leaving in two weeks so I guess its up to your father" and I knew straight away he'd say yes  The best thing is, that because mum is leaving the dogs will be allowed in the house and also because she is going there will be a spare room so Fiona can stay here as much as she wants too. The plan is that the wogs family (everyone knows them as "the wogs" because ever since they moved here from melbourne they've really earnt the name, just with their accent, the clothes they wear etc  ) is moving out of their house and Chris (the one whose giving Fiona the pup) said if we can wait until they've left we can move into their house with cheap rent etc, which is just great because its two doors down from one of my best friends, Josh, and its in a quiet neighbourhood, plus its close to uni, is fenced off and is just perfect, I just hope it works out like planned, if not Fiona and I can find a house elsewhere with a yard which wont be as hard as me trying to find a house on my own before because Fionas got alot of good references. So how cool is that, we're going to have another pup around the house!!! :bday: It will give Lily someone to play with too, as Puddles wont play unless she's inside and Tessa can't go out because she jumps the fence. Guess I'd better make extra space in my bed now for another pup!

Previous post about worms/fasting, natural remedies
Aroura replied to a topic in Veterinary information
I was watching a tv vet one day and the vet was kneeling next to a Basset hound saying that naturally dogs would only eat a few times a week so to only feed your dog every second day. I was thinking, what kind of moron is this dude? Yes, I do agree that a dog like a kelpie fed every second day would probably do quite fine, and I'd be one of the first people to stand up and say how great it is to fast a big dog once a week, but he was sitting there with a basset hound  Breeds such as small breeds (eg, basset hounds) and deep chested breeds need to be fed twice a day, yes, deep chested breeds can go on a fast for a day, but to be fed only every second day and gorging each time would more than likely kill them, and small dogs on the other hand just couldn't keep up their blood sugar levels and would get very ill. Some people just have stupid ideas and I think in cases like these common sence should prevail. -
Tessa can do the gears  Nah, she's not eating the tomatos, I'm not sure but I think she's putting them there for us? I can't think of any other explaination of why a dog would break into the veggie patch, pick a couple of ripe tomatos and put them in her bowl (which is right next to the back door) and then not eat them???
-
LOL, and they say ignorance is bliss
-
She's getting better every day, the vet rang up the other day, I wasn't home so mum took the call. Apparently the lady at the vets had fallen in love with Lily and the clinic has named her "silly Lily", the lady thought that she was absolutly gorgeous and was just checking up to see how she was :D I think thats the first sign you've found a great vet, when they actually care about the individual and give each animal the individual attention they desrve, I wont be going back to any other vet! (Even though this one is by far the most expensive in town...) Anyway, she hasn't been picking tomatos... but that could just be everyones efforts to Lily proof the fence! :drinking: She's put on weight and has her normal level of energy back and will be at obedience on Sunday. She slept in my bed the other night after boyfriend let her in in the middle of the night. I woke up in the morning and went to roll over and give him a hug and all I got was a big bundle of fur! Lily was sleeping between us with her head on the pillow and her paws wrapped around Matts neck giving him a hug all night! What a sweet little puppy eh?
-
I think you need to take him to obedience training and re enforce your position as alpha. If he's growling at you he is obviously trying to challenge you for that position. Teaching basic obedience will also mean you could teach him the "leave" command and the "give" command.
-
Or maybe she can make a nice cup of tea then drive to the shops and buy me some chocolate
-
LOL, ask your mum   Have I missed something though? I didn't see a post from crested??? Sorry I've been so slow replying, as I've said I've got ALOT of work to get through (I spend pretty much every second at home studying except for the half hour or so a few times a week on the net!). Plus I had a funeral to go to yesterday that turned out to be an all nighter with people crying etc... now I've got about 5 hours of chemistry to catch up on today!!! Needed a break though, just spent two hours trying to learn how to do one question! :madgo: Anyway, I didn't take her to obedience today. I rang dad after the funeral to see how she was going so I knew to be home in the morning or not and aparently she was really sore so I decided to give it a miss. She seems ok now, having a little trouble doing number 2's so I added a little oil to her meals. Seeing as mum wont let her in the house its been hard for me to keep an eye on her though because I've been in the study the whole time I'm at home but she's looking fine. The stitches are clean and will heal quickly I'm sure and her blood tests came up fine so I know she doesn't have any internal problems. Thanks for your reassurance everyone!!!
-
Yep, I know... too smart  The latch on the top of the door sounds like a really good idea, I'll talk to dad about it  I'd love to keep them in my room at night, but mum wont let me (though dad lets me have her in my room after mums in bed :bigcool: ) Even if I could though, I doubt Tess could stay in the night as she has to be watched while she's inside to be sure she stays in her basket as she is incontinent. I think the reason why she does it is a combination of freedom to go in and out as she pleases as well as trying to get attention. As I've said, I'd love to have her in the house, I know thats what she really wants, but she has to settle for the next best thing... the sunroom. :tard:

Tomorrows the big day... wish us luck!!! :kciuki: Don't worry dogpaddle, I'll have something to keep my mind off it... uni. 2 hours of biology then I have to go and see a lady about a job... I've found some work for monday :banan: Then home to do a load more chem work.... I'll keep myself busey! One of the guys from dog training is in my socyology classes, he told me to tell Lily to be expecting a get well soon card from his dog Jackson... he's her little boyfriend but they don't like each other much. lol. One question though, she's got obedience on Saturday, its only one hour in the morning... I was wondering if she would be ok to go? Of course I'll take into account how she's feeling on the day, but I was wondering if she should be alright. Its just that I don't like missing lessons, so what do you think?
-
You guys are right, I should put her brains to good use.... maybe she could do my chem work for me? Uni's fun (never thought studying could be fun, but strangely it is...) but I just looked at my chem work today which I'm doing externally and nearly went into a coma from the shock!!! :o Because I was enroling internally and didn't know I'd have to do chem externally (it clashes with psych) I got all the stuff posted to me nearly a month late, then I had to chase around a text book etc and so now its finally all sorted I looked at the study timetable they set out and almost died! I worked out that I will have to get through ten pages a day of set study notes and questions, plus half of one of those massive thick text books in mereley a month before I have to go to res school!!!! :drinking: ... ooops, none of that!!! Too much work to do, I've also gotta do psychology and socyology assignments and a heap of biology work (probably a couple of asignments for that too!) I've been studying since 10am today, thats 9 hours straight! Just decided to have a break but in a minute I've gotta get back to work!!!! Wish me luck :help1: :kaffee_2:

We're having problems trying to keep Lily where we want her. As I've said before, she knows how to open the sunroom door, even knows how to unlock it. She's learnt how to open it from the outside now so if we want the door closed we always have to lock it while she's out. We worked out that if we put a chair infront of the door while they are in the sunroom at night it was at just the posistion where she couldn't unlock the door. Well, being the smart persistant dog that she is she's worked out how to unlock and open the door with the chair there and of course when that happens Tessa gets out, jumps the fence and wonders the streets all night.... so what do I do? I know the best thing would be to let her in the house seeing as thats where she wants to be, but I don't make the rules unfortunatly :(

I got home the other day and walked outside to find Lilys bowl filled with fat ripe tomatos from the garden. So, having heard that tomatos are poisonous I ran inside and got angry at mum for giving Lily tomatos even though I'd told her they were poisonous. She told me to get my facts straight before accusing her and told me that Lily had been opening the veggie patch gate and picking the tomatos herself. :eating: So I said to mum "well then why don't you just put them in the bin? Why do you have to put them in her bowl?"... well apparently I was wrong again, mum hadn't put them in her bowl, but Lily had opend the gate, picked the tomatos and put them in the bowl herself and left them there with no intention to eat them. Now if thats not insane then I don't know what is!!!! :banan: (a dancing banana maybe???)
