Update on neighbor's Bulldog (K, better grab a smoke)

Way to go courtneck!!! Saving that poor dog, I think we all want to save some dog at some stage or another, but thats the problem, once we rescue it whos gonna take it? Good that you had a friend you knew would look after it :D Horsefeathers, I completely understand why you can't take her and the pups in. I just wish I lived a little closer and I would take them all without a second thought!!! She is a beautiful dog, and the pups must be gorgeous too! Why do people keep dogs if they aren't prepared to love and care for them? Lets just hope something will be done about it this time, for the dogs sake :-? -
Poor thing, must have been so frightend and lonely. But there was nothing you could have done, you did what you could and even if you did find it again it may have been too scared to go to you anyway. I'm sure it found some place to shelter and is warm and safe now

Thats the best thing about dogs, no matter how much damage they cause you can always look back on it and have a laugh! That sucks about your tv though, one night when I got home from the pub it was like 3am and I wasn't really in any condition to stop any drastic situations, but the dogs sure do know how to pick their timing and Lily and Tess got into this massive fight IN MY BEDROOM RIGHT NEXT TO MY TV which is sitting on a rather unstable table, well I dived ontop of them barely managing to save my tv from topping to the ground, ontop of my stereo and vcr. Another inch and they all would have been gone :o Note: The dogs were both fine, just a bit scruffed up

Well seeing as the owners are so morally wrong, maybe you could do a little something thats leagally wrong? Steal the dog and the pups and ship them to K!!!! Or if K's got her hands tied, ship them to me!!! The owners will never know. PUHLEESSS!!! She is so cute!!! And if you offered to take them the owners would never agree, they just want the money! I can see the begginings of a puppy mill here, the same neglect is shown, all they need now is to taste the money and you may find yourself living next door to a mill! I know its wrong, but is there any way you can sneak in and steal the dog AND its pups? :( -
Oh Hercules is my type of dog!!!! And he's not at all obese!!! He must have a few medical problems though...
Again guys, this post is from the summer.....
What?!!! How does this keep happening??? lol, I guess now we'll never find out what it was!!!

Yuck!!!! If that was any of our dogs they would have been standing there pawing at it until somebody did something about it! :o
but the heaviest living dog is a Neopolitan Mastiff.
Now I'd love to see a photo of that dog!!! I'm going to get a Neo one day, got it all planned out, even emailed a few breeders about it... though that wont be for a long time yet! I realised this was an old post when I saw it - I thought funny that, what is that post doing back here? Then when I saw beagle I realised exactly how old it was!

When Tessa had ring worm the vet gave us oral medication for it and told us to dab the spots with mixture of betadine and metho twice a day. Lucky for Tess it worked, but it took me years to get rid of it!!! Every time I hear the word my whole body shudders at the thought of it!!! I think I took enough ringworm medication that it will be in my system for the next 20+ years! Thank god it went away and I hope to god it never comes back :o

You've got me stumped... I've seen a few brown kelpies with blue eyes?

Puppymillers - As big a problem in Australia/Europe?
Aroura replied to DogPaddle's topic in Everything about dogs
Well I haven't seen anything on the news here about puppy mills as such, but there are definatly alot of ignorant people who breed alot of poorly bred dogs and pump them out to the pet shops for profit. Not saying that puppy mills don't exist here, but I haven't come across one yet - though I do live in an area where the pet shop doesn't stock dogs and the population isn't big enough to support a major puppy mill. Mandatory chipping is probably also a major deterant for millers. Either ways there should be laws requiring licences to breed dogs, and an education of breeding and dog care before these licences are handed out. -
Queensland identifcation 22 point system pit bulls
This is rediculous, I agree with you Aroura, but my guess is it's set in place because if given the chance and not brough up right ect. ect. an APBT can do more dammage then a chihuahua, not to say a Chi. can't, but you get my drift
Yeah, thats true but so can a Rot, a Greyhound or a Saint Bernard, but they aren't all just PTS without even a chance to prove themselves. What about all those Pits who have dragged their familys out of burning houses, or other such things? Give them a chance and they might just save someones life, kill them for no reason and your throwing away a life that has just as much right to be here as the next. About the skull shaped head, I'm guessing thats opposed to say an earthworm, who has a worm shaped head? :-? :drinking: -
Queensland identifcation 22 point system pit bulls
Aroura replied to pitgal's topic in Amstaffs & Pit Bulls
Why don't they just get someone who ACTUALLY KNOWS what a pit bull looks like to determine what breed it is. It only takes a few hours of study to be able to determine a Pit Bull from say a staffy. My biggest question though is this - why do they make these stupid laws anyway? Shouldn't it be a case of the individual dog, this point system only proves that these laws are stupid, if they'd actually just judge the dog by its personality they wouldn't need to make up such a stupid scaling system :-? -
"guilt" is nothing more than the acknowledgement that you did something wrong, and knew it was wrong, but you did it anyway...
Yes, I just read something like that in the dictionary. When I think of guilt I think of the lump in the back of my throat I get when I've done something wrong and feel bad about it, I think dogs do know when they've done something wrong, the only thing I'm skeptical about is that they actually feel bad about it.... if you get what I mean. Nothing anyone can say will convince me that dogs don't know when they've done something wrong, the proof I get when I see my dogs reactions before I even see what they have done is all I need to know otherwise.

Firstly - great post Edgar, it never hurts to look at something from a scientific point of view and you do have some great points!!! Secondly, Guest, when you wrote that first post not one person had even mentioned "guilt". Did I say my dogs felt guilty? No, but they DID know they had done something wrong. Its a conditioned responce as far as I can see it, they are not reading my body language, no, because I havn't even made any yet because I haven't even seen what they have done!!! Rather, they know that if they chew my teddys, or dig holes in the back yard that they will get in trouble, and when they see me I'm sure it triggers a memory of what they have done and what happend last time they did it. I do agree that dogs are "different" to people, and personally I wouldn't say they feel "guilt" as such, but they do know when they have done something wrong and in many cases I think they are alot more intellegent than we think eg Re-run knowing that if he has a saw paw he will not be punnished.
-
How can they be reacting to my signals when I havn't even realised what they have done yet? They do all this BEFORE I realise what they've done, and thats how I know they've done something! Montie on the other hand, usually smirks before AND after he's done the deed, thats a different kettle of fish all together!! :o
-
lol, too cute  Well, of course Montie does "the smirk" , but Tessa will always make a real nuisance of herself if she thinks she's in trouble, she runs around and jumps up (she never jumps usually) and generally acts silly!!! Lily puts her tail, well stump, between her legs and squints as if protecting herself from punishment (I don't ever hit her but she still does this). Donna is continuously naughty and I don't think she knows the difference between being in trouble and being loved  And Puddles, well I don't think she even knows when she's done something wrong!
-
Yes he's cute, cute but EVIL!!! :evilbat: :o
-
I'm sure most of you here have heard me talk about Monties "evil smirk" he gets when he's about to be naughty... well yesterday right after I gave him a bath I managed to catch it on camera!!! So here it is, now you can all see what I'm going on about when I talk about the infamous smirk

His temprement sounds very much like Tessas. Dogs like that generally get along with most dogs, non alpha or alpha, as long as they are not aggressive. If he will "fight back" (as Tessa will also) its best to be sure to get a dog with a more placid nature that will not start on him over anything. Its hard to know what a dog will grow to be like, but my suggestion is if you're getting a pup don't get the one bossing all the others around, no matter how cute it is, and always check out both the parents. Spaniels are generally good tempered and also make lovely pets. :D
-
Montie always goes in the crate when we go out, not because he has to be apart from the other dogs but because my little 2kg Papillon who I have had for 3 months has caused more damage and chewed up more things than my 25kg Boxer has in two years. He is so destructive and whats worse he gets onto the tables and the benches so nothing is safe!!! The other dogs all run around outside or in the sunroom if its raining, they don't have to be crated, although Tessa has to be chained so she doesn't jump the fence (she looks like a blimp right now from getting into the neighbours cat food!). Most dogs will get along well enough that they don't need to be crated, even Lily and Tessa are fine together, they get along like a house on fire until Lily gets over possessive of me, if I'm not there thats not an issue. Can I ask one question, whats the temprement of your dog?
-
Thanks, he is alot happier, and that makes me so happy, thats why I had to share  Oh, and that "smile" you talk about Rowie, thats his evil cheeky grin, cute, but devious. Sometimes it turns into this smirk, when he does that I know he's up to no good, its usually just before he pokes me in the eye with his paw or runs off with one of my teddy bears :-?
Thats why I have cheap cord burgundy carpet..and the muddy footprints all meld together after a while and look like it has a pattern
   Sounds a bit like our sunroom, the door is left open most of the time, especially when its raining, with 5 dogs you can imagine the mud that gets traipsed in!!! Luckily its tiled so all it needs is a good mopping and its as good as new  But I definatly say the more the merrier!!!
I'm sure k, HF, cassie will have lots of things to say, and will probably say that two dogs doesn't even mean multiple dog household
Thats just what I was thinking... when I think multiple dog I think no less than say 5 or 6. More dogs only means more babys, more toys to buy, more ways to spoil. It can backfire though, I bought Lily so Tessa would have a friend, now when they fight they are inseperable so I'm having to give Tessa up to Claire (who has always wanted her and spoils her rotton). Its ok now, dad is always home and can break them up with help from me, they don't fight when no one is home, but I wouldn't have a chance trying to break them up on my own. Aside from that we have a very merry house hold!!! Of course Montie and Lily are mine so get spoilt rotten, and although I love living here with 5 dogs I can't wait to move out when it will be just me and my two special babys. It is a good idea though I think is, if you have a big dog, get a small dog, and get oppisite sexed dogs, that way they are less likely to have conflict and I actually find it easier to share my attention with a big dog and a small dog than I do with two big dogs or two small dogs. Another con is the more dogs you have the harder it is to rent. Thats what I'm dredding when dad sells the house, I need to find somewhere with a yard where I can have the dogs, its so difficult, I've tried before and despite months of hunting not one house turned up that was affordable, in town and that allowed pets. So if you are renting, there is also that to consider. I think though, with all the pros and cons added up, just to have those extra wet licks and stragely lovable muddy paw prints, it is well worth it. Coming home to multiple wagging tails and doggie grins is the best feeling in the world
