Well I've promised photos of Cassie, so I will deliver  Dad uploaded the digi pics on his computer and emailed me one of Cassie and Montie (there were more, but I only have access to one!). Because I can't update my web page on this stupid computer (lol, I REALLY have a grudge against this computer! Its brand new and doesn't even work properly!) I can't post the pics right now, BUT if anyone can post it for me I'd be more than happy to email it to them!!! :D So watch this space everyone, hopefully there will be a pic of Cassie here soon! (and more if I go to dads over the weekend!).

our beautiful pit bull Brax passes away RIP
Aroura replied to pitgal's topic in Amstaffs & Pit Bulls
Its so sad that after you fought so hard to keep him, that you lost him an entirely different way. At least those bastards didn't get him, and he left peacefully in loving arms. RIP Brax. -
There was a warning that came with flea collars that something they were using in them was causing developmental problems in children! If kids touch them and put their hands in their mouths.
So thats what went wrong with me! :o Well I'm buying the frontline today! :D As for the outside areas, I think I've already mentioned our garden is a jungle, so I'm a bit worried about that aspect. Plus the rats/possums in the roof, I'm don't know what I'm gonna do to treat the whole area! Should I get rid of what evers in the roof? How do I go about that? Plus the jungle of Privet in the yard, its so frustrating!!! I've spent so many solid days trying to fix the yard, I'm falling behind in my uni work just because the yard it such a mess! If there are still fleas in the environment, will Montie continue to scratch? I wish I had a step by step video of our garden and you might see what I'm talking about, I can spray/bomb/whatever inside, and I can malawash what I can outside, but there are so many overgrown dark corners - I thought it was cool when I moved in, with no thought to how bad it could be. Maybe I should ring the landlord? If he paid to get it fixed I'd keep it trimmed etc - apparently the whole garden was fixed before the last guy moved in, but the fat lazy slob of a guy who lived here didn't go out the back for the whole 4 years he lived here! Everything planted here is fast growing, its such a high maintenence garden - I don't know why you'd plant so many high maintenence plants in a rental place :o Ok, I'm getting annoyed and frustrated now, think I'd better go take a breath! :drinking:

Well I guess you could ask about minimum age to join - if they don't have one obviously they are uneducated and I wouldn't go there. Ask about warm up exercises, again, they should reccomend something. Umm, I can't really think of anything else, the only way to find out if she's up to it and if she'll enjoy it I guess is just to take her along! :D
-
Well it doesn't say anything in my "Pets in your garden" book - but I just found out that one bite of oliander can be fatal! :o Good thing its only in my front garden, I wasn't sure at first and was beggining to freak out! I havn't heard anything about wisteria, but I'd like to know because I was actually considering to plant some!

I've always wanted a dog like the one in never ending story! Do you have picks? However much I discourage the BREEDING of crossbreeds, if I saw one like that I'd just HAVE to get it! I've always wondered what Lily and Montie would look like together (Boxer x Papillon), but would NEVER actually do it! :-?

I'm sorry to hear that :( I agree with what courtneck said, not all dogs get along. Tessa is generally a very dog friendly dog, but sometimes she will see a dog and just go at it! Mostly border collies and german shepards, she has grudges against them. Lily is the oppisite, she wants to eat anything over about 10kg that comes near her, but she adores Donna, our Lab, and gets along quite well with the friendly Pit Bull at training, sometimes she will just meet a dog and want to play. Montie on the other hand, is different all together, he has little moody temper tantrums where he doesn't want to know anyone, but the rest of the time he's all up in the big dogs faces giving them little kisses (everyone loves it when little 2kg Montie runs up to their big dog eg Bernese Mountain Dog, and kisses all over their face)

Thanks for the tips guys, you know malawash hadn't even crossed my mind! I've used it in the past - but wouldn't use it on the little ones. The idea of using it around the house is a good one - how much do you water it down and do you just spray it around? I'm thinking I might frontline the dogs, flea bomb the house and malawash around the house. There were cats living here before, I think thats why we have problems. Also, I think we have possums or giant 10kg rats in the roof  I hear thumping and running every night! :o Its hard to describe, but we had this massive 40 foot vine growing over one of those wooden vine structers in the yard, apparently it had been planted years ago and never pruned! So it took dad and I three days straight to pull this thing down. It had been harbouring mozzies, dampness, hid the house in the dark, encouraging mold, was probably a perfect environment for flea nests in the damp leaves below, and, as I found out trying to get it down, HOUSED DOZENS OF HUNTSMEN NESTS!!! :o :o :o :o :evilbat: :drinking: Now though, we have a front and back yard over flowing with chopped down vine, and nowhere to put it! I am trying to organise a friend to come over here and take it away, he said he would, he has a mulcher and apparently needs the mulch, but that was over two weeks ago - meanwhile the dogs are battling a jungle of vine in the back yard. I'm sure that once this is gone, as well as all the privet (another jungle in the corner of the yard, I'm going to ring the council about that one), then fleas will be much easier to control! Its just a matter of breaking the cycle, then life will be so much easier for me and the dogs!!! Kat, what exactly does the metho do?

Armidale would also have a great climate for your dogs in winter! Its, i think, 2-3 hours inland from Coffs. Temperature wise, well I don't watch the weather on the news much, but I'm in a jumper and a heater on and they've been on all day, and my feet are still a little chilly. It gets freezing at night, I often have to break the ice on the dogs water bowel in winter in the mornings, daytimes can also get rather cold, it usually snows once or twice every year or two. lol, hope that helps, sorry I can't be a little more informative!

Pretty much anything and everything that is large or aggressive gets bred as a pig dog here. A lot have blue heeler thrown in for sharpness and aggression, mastiff for size, pit bull for killing ability, and a few have some pointer, boxer etc for various reasons. The latest "Pig Dog" pups I've heard of were a litter of Irish Wolfhound cross Saint Bernard, I don't see how they would make good piggers, but thats what they were sold as and the ignorant people trying to sell them burnt off their whiskers to make them look tough and fed them on big chucks of liver in an effort to beef them up, but rather they gave them vitamin A and D toxicity, and the pups were lucky to be alive. One of the girls at dog training "rescued" one of these pups, who now enjoys gallumping around the house and eating a proper diet, and is getting bigger every time I see it!!! :o

I don't know exactly how cold too cold is, but I think ticks mainly dwell around coastal areas, and mozzies need a certain amount of life cycle before they spread heart worm or something! I don't know for sure, but the vets here only reccomend frontline for ticks if you are going to the coast, and say that you only have to treat for heartworm if you and your dog are travelling. That is about the one good thing about Armidale

Someone I know has a chihuahua cross kelpie, we think the chihuahua must have used a step ladder! Donnas mum we think was a Lab cross Daschound

I've never seen a Presa, or an American Bulldog - you get all types of mixes with those types of breeds here though, because Pig Dogs are all the go, everyone is proud to be a pigger with their big butch dogs chained to the back of their ute, then they eye Lily off when I'm walking her down the street  Kookie, its good you're waiting to get a Pap, a lot of people get little dogs thinking they don't require much time, but they need just as much training and socialising as big dogs, otherwise they turn into antisocial, aggressive little brats (uncommon with Papillons, but it can happen with any breed). They are the most pleasant little things to have in your life if you have the time and love to give them, they really are a joy to own! For now, keep looking at pics, and keep Quinvale in mind, its a great kennel, another one I would reccomend, Monties lines are from their stock, is Farfalla - Monties mother was a Farfalla Papillon, and she was the cutest, most friendly dog I have ever seen (except of course, for my own!) I think everyone has either lived in the 'Gong or got friends there! When I got Montie I met with his breeder at her sisters house in Bulli, if I ever moved down that way I think I'd probably move to Bulli 8)

lol, normally if I see a word I don't understand I go through in my head what possible typos it could have, in this case I was in a hurry and though "oh, Port mince, that sounds pretty fancy!"
-
Thanks all, yes, I know, he's gorgeous   Courtneck, just because he is tiney, don't assume he is quiet!!! He's got more energy than the rest of our 6 dogs put together! On our super long walks he is the only one still bouncing off the walls at the end of it, plus he is the one that runs the most during the walk! He's good though, if I don't have time to walk him he's quite happy to just zoom around the house, full speed ahead, for about 50 laps before curling up on my lap for a 10 minute break before another outburst of the zooms
-
Congrats on the new dog!!! I like the name Nina  How old are they all? I know what its like having dog fights in the yard and wondering what the neighbours must be thinking, the number of times I'd been sitting inside at the computer when I'd hear Lily and Tess break into a fight, I'd litterally jump out the window (quickest route!) screaming at the top of my lungs, in a deep gruff voice "Nooooo!!!! Get out of it you dogs!!!" and then dad and I trying to pull them off each other  No more of that now though, and I'm certainly not getting another big dog until Lily passes away, then I'm thinking either a Belgian Shepard or a white German Shepard 8) Thankfully I've never been offered a pony, I think thats one member of the zoo I could do without! I'm happy with my crew now though, I think if I got any more pets they wouldn't recieve the individual attention that they all deserve. Hope you have fun with the new one, keep us posted on how she goes!

I'll check out your forum properly when I find some more time, from what I've glanced at it looks pretty good though! Right now I'm happy to say I've just finnished the first draft of my assignment!

Thanks
HE'S SOOO CUTE!! I WANT A PAPILLON!! of course, my hunting dogs would run roughshod over the poor thing... Maybe when I'm old and feeble...oh, I'm feeble now, so maye when I'm just OLD...
lol, you don't have to be old to own a Papillon!!! lol, its funny you should say that though, because all the Papillon breeders I know of are all old women! They are a pretty tough breed though, if little runty 2kg Montie can get along so well with big, boofy, slobbery, 25kg Lily I'd say they can deal with pretty much anything!
-
Thanks for the links KP! I'm actually a member of that yahoo group already, I posted the same question there, as well as an aussie barfing page. The general impression from everyone seems to be that its ok! :D Malamum, what is port mince?

Just a quick gloat, I entered Montie in a competition yesterday, and got an email this morning saying he'd won pet of the week! Here is my angels winning shot :D http://www.armidalevet.com.au/Templates/StoryTemplate_Process.cfm?story_no=233 Oh, plus I get a 10% discount off orders! Which is good as I was planning on buying some frontline, missing link and "breath fresh" digestive aid for the little ones
-
Well I emailed a vet and she told me I'd just have to get a thing for big dogs and split some of it up for the little dogs, which would cost me about $62 for 3 months for the 3 of them, which I guess isn't too bad... oh, and then Montie won this competition that I entered him in yesterday which got me a 10% discount so it will only cost me like $55 or something lol. I'll gloat about Monties winning in another post  With frontline, do you still do flea bombs or something? Malamum, I'm happy to say we don't get ticks here, nor do we get heartworm - its too cold for them!

Cassie has arrived, and she's absolutly beautiful!!!
Aroura replied to Aroura's topic in Everything about dogs
Sizzle, would you have a link to this Loteki Papillon that won westminister, or any photos of his littermates? I'd love to see them!!! Guess what everone, I'm at dads, I walked all the way here with the dogs (about an hour and a half!) and brought my camera this whole way.... and I forgot the usb!!! So no pictures today :( But I PROMISE to get them up asap - she's absolutely gorgeous! -
At 15 weeks old you probably shouldn't be jogging with him, for the same reason as they reccomend you don't start agility until about a year and a half, the joints and stuff are still growing. Is there anywhere you can take him swimming? Swimming is a great exercise for growing dogs, as well as all dogs in general, it exercises without straining anything. My dogs get an hour walk each day, half the walk the papillons get let off lead so they can run around and wear themselves out, Lily is too dog aggressive so can't be let off lead! Its a good idea for younger dogs if you can find somewhere to let them off lead so they can romp around and wear themselves out at their own rate, as he gets older gradually make his walks longer and after a year or so you can start jogging with him

Oh I like Freddie the rat terrier, he's cute! :D Nookie, where did you get Didi from? I've been so confused this whole time, when ever people would say to me they have a Rat Terrier, or a Tenterfeild Terrier, I'd wonder why they didn't just call it a mini foxy? Now I know, they're different breeds! Kookie, I think a big part of the reason that you don't see too many Papillons around is that most of the big breeders are out of town, look up any Papillon breeder in Australia and I'm sure you'll see photos of acerage and lots of Paps running around in the bush lol, kinda cute. The kennel I got Montie from was in Penrose, over an hours drive from Wollongong, out on a big property. I got Cassie from Quinvale Kennels, which is near brisbane, if you know where Samsonvale is? She also came from a big bushy property. Farfalla Kennels, where I will hopefully be getting my next Pap from, is also on a property. I remember the first time I saw a Papillon too, it was back when I was young and shy and never talked to anyone I didn't know. Well I saw a Papillon with an old lady and forgot my years of shyness and ran up and started talking to her  If you ever came past my house though, you could almost double the number of Paps you've seen
:D Thanks 4 the congrats! And congrats on the papillon!! :D
Thank you :D Sounds like you've got a bit of a petting zoo going yourself!
