I'm with HF and Feared...I cant STAND the man....the few times I have watched him, I honestly didnt think his advice about PEOPLE was even any good, much less dogs.... I didnt see that episode, I stopped watching it a while ago, so I dont know what kind of puppy he has. I bet he had it professionally trained however, or is doing so.... :drinking:

I already said I would do the Lab's and Foxhounds....and I think personal writeup from experience is a good idea as well.... 8)

do you have any idea what they're digging for?are they burying things, or trying to dig something up? I would think, if they're not burying things, like toys or food, there may be something under your lawn that they are trying to dig up. moles or voles come to mind......the live underground and dig tunnels.....gophers too. check your yard and see if there are any small holes already there. be careful, people have broken their ankles stepping in gopher holes by accident. If you see small, 3 to 6 inch holes, in your lawn, you may have gophers or moles. my next step would be to buy regular ground black pepper, and pour it in the holes, then fill them in with a light layer of dirt, then pour more black pepper on top. same with the ones already dug. when the dogs go to sniff the holes, they will be caught up in a sneezing fit. one or two of those usually stops them. this wont hurt the dog at all, just make them sneeze alot. 8)

if Tina is able to care for them its not a big issue. but you wont know that til they're born...so stock up on puppy milk substitutes (most can be gotten at pet stores) small ounce baby bottles, towels, and if she wont care for them at all (sometimes happens) then a heat lamp to keep them warm. they will be born blind. they will need to be fed by bottle every few hours. they will need warmth,a secure spot, and quiet. they will huddle with each other if mom wont help, but fed seperatley while being cuddled. if mom wont help them, you have to become mama dog to them. in most cases mama will do this all. just a warning in case she wont. YOU'RE A DADDY!!!

I agree as well DAL. things with his vision or health could have changed since the last checkup. Alex went blind in two weeks, no one saw it coming, least of all me. now he had a somewhat rare disease, called blastomycosis, but it changed, in two weeks, his entire personality. since he has been aggressive all along, if the health check comes back negative, he needs a behaviorist.

I know the feeling. Free looks like a lab, so its instantly "OH LOOK! a LAB! go pet it!" NOT....NOT NOT NOT NOT she doesnt like strangers, or small children, or being surrounded. I have actually YELLED at parents "Get your KIDS away from my dog! NOW! or I WONT be responsible for what happens!" this is after I have told both parent and children to leave her alone....

then I'm sorry. but honestly, I did not understand the post at all.. :(

you know the really sad thing? I agree with a lot of what they stand for, the slaughter industry definitely needs a major overhaul. and has for multiple decades. when they started paying people to blow up research labs, and putting signs in colleges that said "drink beer, not milk", and that God-awful poster of the mom slaughtering a bunny, I then said ENOUGH. some of your work is good, but I wont support you with this type of power and exploitation. I agree that research is not necessary for makeup, there are computer models that will tell you that the ingredients are safe or not...but what about AIDS? what about Diabetes? what about Cancer? unfortunately that requires live animalsto test the potential drugs on.computer models cannot do that. I have slammed them in many a post, and many an email to their site, about destroying research labs, and wanting them stopped completely. they of course deny all culpability, and with 30 mil a year they can and do afford the BEST lawyers.... and they want NO ONE to have pets. thats the bottom line, although they deny it when questioned, but their mission statement is on their website. before Newkirk took over, they were doing what PETA originally intended.fighting for the end to animal cruelty. especially in food animals and I was a member back then. not now. never again

I agree with everyone else. it will help if you put him back on his normal schedule, treat him just as you did before he got lost, dont make a big deal outta him. act like nothing happened. a little reinforcement NILIF will help too. life as normal. thats what makes them the most comfortable. SOOOO glad he's back!!! 8)

What is it about puppies and toilet paper?
courtnek replied to JackieMaya's topic in Everything about dogs
I think they like to watch it unwind..it gives them something to chase, then chew up... my hound likes to chew up the empty rolls.... :o -
*hugs* to Riley...in my experience, he wont know the difference in three days... 8)

the "doodle" breeds are not yet recognized by any true breed affiliate... you may come across another unrecognized breed, but I will fight for this one. The Golden Lab. the Seeing Eye has been trying to create this breed for years, because they want the stamina of the Lab with the gentleness of the Golden. they want the shorter hair, because the blind cant groom efficiently. Labs are more stubborn, Goldens need less work, socially, but more work grooming wise. I had one. If I could get another Alex I would take him in a heartbeat.... 8)

get her x-rayed Iz..that can tell how big the pups are for her size...I hate to say it, but if the puppies are too big for her to handle, a spay/abortion may be best. I dont agree with this on many levels, but to save the mama and prevent further pregnancies, this may be best. only an x-ray can determine that... I am SOOOO sorry...
-
agree with that...

thats why we're doing this. to find the flaws and correct them! keep it up! good job everyone! :D

I am sorry Kat. Zoey, run free. be a youngin' again at the bridge. PushyCat may be joining you soon, so watch for him. He likes dogs, although you'd never know it to look at him. Just dont try to sleep on his spot on the rug, ok? 8) RIP Zoey....

"Family pet" electrocuted during storm
courtnek replied to Horsefeathers!'s topic in Everything about dogs
people are stupid in general... on a positive note, I have a friend who lives down there. her and her husband built a concrete "safe room" in the lowest section of their house. the pets are crated and put in the safe room if it looks like the hurricane is going to hit. they only go in there if its right on them, but the pets are safe always. I asked her why she didnt go in there until the last minute? her answer? "I want to make sure whats going to happen....I dont want to leave them in there if I dont have to.." 8) -
ok I'M VENTING NOW!!! it DOESNT MATTER what size the dog is. Dogs are DOGS! they are animals, not people in furry coats. THE RULES ARE THE SAME REGARDLESS OF SIZE!! i get SOOOOO frustrated with this crap (what? you couldnt tell?) and the big problem? these bites dont get reported. so the big dogs who bite come out looking like the bad guys, because THEIR bites are on record... ARRRGGHHHHHHH
-
thats the whole problem. owner thinks dog is harmless because of size, what happens when it encounters a toddler or baby it doesnt like??? ARRRGGHHHHH
-
she lost me too, and I'm pretty good at figuring this stuff out..after 4 readings I still dont get it. All I can glean is that she wants usto pay attention to our puppies....
If its any consolation I've done the same thing before. I was out walking Nelson who was a Rhodesian ridgeback that was one of my regular doggies to walk when i was about 12 ish and this wee sh*t of a yorkie came up all teeth and spit and was ready to lay in. Nelson was trying to attack the thing so I shoved the yorkie with my foot. wee sod yelped and i got a rollicking from its owner. Even then I was aware of lead laws and her dog wasn't on a lead i was quick to point out to which she replied "Buttons is a well behaved dog and doesn't need a lead :o  ".
and if you hadnt done it, "Buttons" would be confetti in the past tense. Being the natural bitch that I am, even at 12, I would have pointed that out....I cant abide blatant stupidity..its one of my downfalls...
-
thats kinda what Canis was trying to avoid......the idiot owner coulda got his lazy arse off the porch sooner. it the pup hadnt been punted, he would have been confetti... :o :o

I knew something like this was going to happen!
courtnek replied to Lucky Chaos's topic in Everything about dogs
that sounded kinda harsh, and for that I'm sorry. I have a problem with little dog issues, since they cant really hurt, etc. tell your aunt I have been practicing NILIF since I was 18 and learned it from a breeder I worked for. then tell her I HAVE NEVER BEEN BITTEN... not ONCE in my whole life.... maybe that will sway her.... 8) p.s. that was 30 years ago....still never been bitten.
