Congrats to you and Roxy on your very positive progress!

I agree with everyone above, go for the papers. In addition to what has already been said, who knows what you might want to do in the future with Miles. Right now he's your loving pet, you might at some point decide that obedience or agility is loads of fun and you would like to enter him in AKC trials. You will NEED his registration for this or you would have to ILP him. ILP means you would need to send photos to AKC to prove he looks very much like a Shih Tzu. She ADVERTISED him as an AKC dog, you PAID for an AKC dog, you deserve the papers as well.

Lordy Courtnek, so sorry for that scare! That is horrible, I'm so glad it was proven that Laurel was not 'their' dog! Shysters! Con Artists! Scammers! If Laurel, and Freebee are not chipped I'd probably get it done asap. I'd also consider electrifying my fence!

, I'd have trouble deciding if I was looking at the front or the rear of that critter
Hey Carol maybe you could put a bow at both ends...just to be sure
Yeah, one bow that said FEED THIS END and one that said CLEAN THIS END. 8)

Man that is just not right. whew! That first photo, if it was not for the ears, I'd have trouble deciding if I was looking at the front or the rear of that critter

Sharpeigirl, I am SO sorry to hear of the pain you and Sassy have had to experience. I do hope she will recover soon. My heart truly goes out to you, I can only imagine the hell you've gone through and the suffering BOTH of you have had. I am wishing with all my might for Sassy to recover and to come home to you soon.

You're terribly young to be so close minded. Coals reaction to the sound of the clicker should guide you, I am a strong advocate of using WHAT WORKS. I taught Candy the concept of the weave poles in ONE DAY using a clicker. I'm talking straight line weaves, not offset or tilted. One day. It took me months to train both Jesse and Brittany on weaves since I started with the channel method. I even retrained Brittany using a clicker, she knew the stuff before but once I started using the clicker, her attitude was better, her responses were much faster. As others have said, the clicker is an INSTANT never changing marker with which to tell your dog yes that is what I wanted you to do.

For goodness sake, get Dad an umbrella! Doesn't he know the needs of the dog take priorty? 8) I am TOTALLY kidding here It is ME who drags the dogs out in the rain! Tuesday we had agility practice, Candy was a little trooper, moderate to heavy rain did not stop her a bit!

Aroura, Montie is TOO precious. I think Paps are adorable and watching them run agility is exciting and fun. Some are like mini BC's, their fast and love it! One day I expect to have a Papillon of my own.

Anyone taken their dog to an Animal Communicator?
Carolk9s replied to Carolk9s's topic in Everything about dogs
Well, I'm still very skeptical about this There have been a couple people say that her avoidance of the woman, since it is out of character for Candy, is an indication of 'something'. One said it would have gone better if I had explained to Candy beforehand what we were going to do and that it was ok to talk to the woman. Another said perhaps Candy felt the mental intrusion was rude or invasive. I'm thinking Candy was trying to tell ME to save my money for doggie treats! 8) -
Just for fun I stopped by the animal communicators tent yesterday with Candy. We were out supporting the Richmond Animal League and participated in the agility demo. I have always been curious about animal communicators and decided what the heck, at least the fee was going to RAL so it was a good cause. I am a bit curious if anyone has taken their dog to a communicator and how you feel about the encounter. About 98% of what was said seemed very general to me. Anyone with any knowledge of dogs could have come up with the things she said. The only thing she said that struck a chord was when she said Candy had a horrible puppyhood and was abandoned. My sister and I did find Candy out in the country alongside a back road and feel strongly that she was dumped in the area. Candy was emaciated and fearful, she had to learn over time that I was NOT going to smack or beat her. My question is how did your dog relate to the communicator? Candy is a VERY sociable girl and has gone up to every human she's gotten close too and wanted to be petted and to kiss them. She not only pointedly ignored this woman, she refused to look at her and wanted to leave. I can certainly explain this to a degree that there were other dogs nearby and other activity taking place but her avoidance of this person was total. We had already been on site for close to 5 hours so she'd had time to visit other dogs and walk around some. We were with the communicator for about 15 minutes and not once did I see her look at the woman, if I tried to bring Candy closer, she resisted and moved away immediately. Just weird but not a big deal but I wonder if other dogs have had similar reactions and do you think it 'means' anything?

Oh I hope this link will take you there, my sister sent it to me and it cracked me up! http://www.lolfun.com/flash_1003/poop_doggy_dog.cfm

Thanks for posting this courtnek. While no one could truly know what was going through the tigers mind, obviously if he had wanted to kill or maul Roy Horn, he could have and probably would have. Being that he did not is a testament to not only his training but more importantly the love and respect he has received all his life from the team. Lets remember that there are animal activists who believe that ALL dogs should be 'set free' and no one should own them, train them, fence them, leash them etc etc. Yes I realize one is a domesticated animal and one is not. I remember once at an obedience trial we were advised to padlock our crates if we could not be near our dogs at all times as there had been some 'incidents' of dogs being turned loose on a show ground. I too prefer to see wild animals remain in the wild but the white tigers would not survive in the wild and they are treated with love, respect and kindness in this particular environment. It's not perfect, it's not a perfect world. If I felt at all that these animals were taught with fear and/or pain, I would feel totally different and Roy Horn would probably be dead.

Hope you have a great time, see lots of lovely dogs, have fun with your friends and perhaps even make some new ones!

Jesse has no dewclaws, was very competitive and fast in agility. Brittany has front dews, was pokey and just wanted to hang out with the ring crew. Candy has front dews, she can be blazing fast (when she chooses) cuts corners like a knife and so far no problems associated with her dewclaws. I have noticed both girls will roll onto their backs and hold a toy in their paws, utilizing the front dews, and play with the toy. Jesse has never done this but I suspect it is more his 'boy dog' personality than the fact that he does not have front dews. I've only had one experience with a torn dew, it was on Brittany a few years ago. I kept it clean and used neosporin, she healed up just fine.

This is one of my very FAVORITE comics. Dogs must play an important role in the writer of this strip as they figure so prominently. Who remembers when Farley died saving April? Geez I cried BUCKETS that day. Over a comic strip dog! It was a very touching storyline. This one is just plain cute and funny, thanks for putting in here.

IMO, ALL dogfighters are scum. I don't care if they take 'wonderful' care of their dogs otherwise or beat the dogs and starve them. They are simply all scum.

Nancy B is right, a KENNEL name is not required to compete in obed. or agility. A REGISTERED name is but it can be as simple as one word such as Candy. I decided that when I registered my mixed up girls with the United Kennel Club, so we could compete, to expand on their call names. Brittany is Rescue Me Brittany Candy is Rescue's Call Me Candy I have seen a kennel name of YKnotResQ (I believe that is the spelling) and I think it is a belgian breeder who has it but I'm not positive.

Thanks to all for your words of support. I actually did consider bagging it and placing it on the hood er bonnet 8) of their car. I walked back around towards it from the other direction but missed seeing it the second time. The sun was in my eyes and I think I just missed it. I certainly did not see the knuckledraggers pick it up. Kinda wish I had hunted it down now so I could leave their 'gift' on their car. OTOH, my dogs are getting FAR too used to going to the park every day now that I'm not working. I see the begging, the demanding, the c'mon mom hurry looks!
-
DogPaddle, I must confess I too have been caught off guard once or twice. I used to stuff 3 bags in my pocket, one for each dog. Then one day Jesse decided he had to poo a second time after I had used all the bags! I was embarrassed, luckily it was a truly tiny amount, probably what didn't pop out the first time. Courtnek, you are right that some people do not accept info or instruction from one younger, now I am probably at least twice that gals age! :D MY problem is that when confronted with a flippant I-could-care-less attitude like she had, I get steamed pretty quickly and have to walk away before I just lose my religion...er all my manners!
-
Here's a letter I just submitted to our local newspapers editorial page. I hope they publish it and I hope the idiot I am referring to reads it. She really acted like she could care less that her dog left a huge pile along the walkway at the park. I was really steamed, had to mull it over before I could even sit down and write this. To the irresponsible dog owner who refused to clean up after her dog at a local park even though offered a plastic bag, shame on you. It is the actions of those like you who provide fodder for anti dog-friendly legislation. I enjoy taking my dogs places, in turn my dogs enjoy socializing with other dogs and people. I carry plastic bags with me, usually more than I anticipate needing so I can offer one to a person such as yourself. No one wants to see or step in the results of your dog's eliminations. To an extent, cleaning up after your dog on YOUR property is an option, on anyone else's property, INCLUDING county or state, it is never an option. We must, as dog owners be vigilant and meticulous when we take our dogs out in public. Your arrogance in saying you had a bag 'in the car' was astounding. The bag in the car was doing you no good at all was it? Your lack of responsibility also showed in that at least one of your dogs was not even wearing a collar. Perhaps you are also the sort who will dump your dog(s) at the pound when they are no longer convenient to own.

Hey Harper, Good for you wanting to brush Abs teeth! Take your time, you can even start by taking a piece of gauze or cut an old clean washcloth into 4 little squares, get it damp and gently rub Abs teeth with the cloth while telling her how good she is. Take it slow and make a bit of a fuss over her telling her how wonderful she is etc even if you can just touch her mouth with the cloth at first. I use a Crest Spinbrush and chicken flavored doggie toothpaste that I get at the vets office. They tolerate the Spinbrush but LOVE the toothpaste. They each get a greenie a day as well to help and just recently all had bones to chew on. Good luck with her skin irritation also, could be just a food thing or could be an allergy or could be???? How old is she again?
-
I went back and read all of your posts. It's quite possible Pepper kept pushing Sassy's buttons so to speak. How old is Sassy now? Is she spayed? She may simply need to be an only dog that is quite tightly managed, both for her protection and the human/canine public. Again I wish you the best of luck, this is truly a difficult time for you.
-
I'm afraid that Sassy, while on leash, meeting the neighbors well socialized dog, also on leash, is not going to prove a whole heck of a lot. I assume Jake is a male? Sassy may react totally differently to a male than a female. Even if she grumbles at him or snaps at him, female to male behaviour is hard to judge at times as many females feel like they have to put the male in his place even if they are sociable girls otherwise. While you may certainly be able to enjoy many years with Sassy as an only dog, I feel she has PROVEN to be untrustworthy in regards to having another dog, especially another female, in the family with her. Certainly talk with the trainer but do NOT excuse any behaviour that is risky to other dogs or people from Sassy. I cannot remember, was Sassy also a rescue or did you get her from a breeder?
-
I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your Pepper girl. My sympathies go out to you, this has got to be hell for you. I know many will not agree with me, this is PURELY what I would do and I am not saying you should. IF no medical reason can be found to explain Sassy's temperament issues, I would have her put down. Is Sassy spayed? If not, spaying 'might' have a profound affect on her temperament. Of course it might not also. Again this is JUST me, if Candy suddenly ripped Brittany open or vice versa and then snarled and lunged at a person they had met before, their time left on this earth would be extremely limited. It would hurt, it would break my heart, but I would do it. I do agree that you need a bit of time to consider and decide what to do about Sassy. Whatever your decision is, I wish you the best of luck and again I am sorry you have had to see and deal with the loss of Pepper.
