I have been searching and reading this morning. The best overall web site I've found so far is here: http://www.pitbulllovers.com/ Incredibly refreshing. I also found this one. http://www.richardfstratton.com/ Does anyone else think this guy is a baboon's ass? Yet he seems to be on the forefront of "pit bull advocates." This is exactly the kind of shit I am talking about. The best idea I have found is "Owner Specific Legislation." Now I can't find where I saw it ... back to google.

an action that Congress or law enforcement could take ...
start writing......that's the way to make it happen....
OK. I will be asking for help / edits / ideas from you all, but I will start.

Coal .... yes I do feel like there are very few constructive things being done to really help pit bulls. Maybe I am wrong, but I don't see much other than complaining about the media and BSL. Writing letters about what great animal companions many pit bulls are is important but it doesn't address the dark side or the terrible abuses that are going on. I do feel like no one is pondering serious solutions to BYB, fighting, etc ... just as long as there is no BSL, the media stays quiet, and we have the right to own OUR pit bulls, then everything is just dandy. It has been helpful to hear some of the stories here, things that are being done as you say on a case by case basis ... I just wish there were some kind of movement, a common cause, an action that Congress or law enforcement could take ...

Sending good thoughts. She is beautiful.
Yall are a trip! But I did call Court Mis Whoopie! I didnt mean it the way it sounded though. CC probably dont remember but there was this old tv show called THE DATEING GAME. On the show, they couldnt talk about sex. Back then, all that was taboo and they had to use code words like Makeing Whoopie! So it's no wonder you got that idea. I was refering to the Mr Whoopie on Tennesse Tuexdo. Heck! You dont know who that is either. OK IM gonna go find the link and clear this up!
Oh but thou doth protest too much!
Hey its him and Court that were flirting in another thread!  :P
Oh that makes it even juicier ... a threesome!
I wrote in and gave my two cents. It's on the internet. If you want to see if, I will see if I can find it. Its just readers from the paper putting down pits and the sheriffe.
Yes, I would really like to see it if you can find without much trouble.

Love you guys. :drinking: Edited to add ... a book should be written. A blockbuster. The incredible romance of CC and ALan ... (OOOPS, seriously ... the pit bull tragedy and real life solutions...)
-
You know, we have a sheriffe here. He is great. He trained the officers on things to do to bust Pit Bull rings. They were all trained on what to look for and everything. It was in the paper. 90% of the people in the paper, bitched at him for doing it. They said he was wasting time and money. Even when it was poited out that often times other crimes like gambling and drugs are associated with dog fighing, they still thought he was a joke for doing it!
Thanks Alan. That is the stuff I'm talking about. This lawman should be lionized instead of spurned.

Yes good post CC, and many of you. No the breed shouldn't be eradicated ... But what is to be done, to protect the DOGS? The BYB / thug problem with pit bulls is like meth; like nothing we have ever seen before and it results in unrprecedented cruelty INCLUDING bsl ... Doesn't anyone else see that?! Doesn't it break anyone else's hearts?! Or do you just want to keep on loving youre own and ignoring the insane crisis all around? Edited to add, No I don't know the answer. But maybe we can think about it?
-
Ok BM... Find my proof that pit bulls are more dangerous than any other breed... Other than just the fact that they are the ones that always make the news.... (regardless of the fact that they aren't always actually American Pit Bull Terriers)
But Jess you miss my point (and that is much my fault for taking Hmmmm's bait before...) It is not about whether pit bulls are more dangerous to people ... It is about the fact that they are so horribly abused by people THEMSELVES. THAT is what breaks my heart the most. And I can't help thinking, that people who make more litters of pit bulls are setting more up for horrible tortured deaths.
-
I also repeat, I am not in favor of BSL! I just want a recognition that there is a MAJOR probelm; and an intelligent talk about solutions that MAY work. Maybe that is too much to ask?
-
There are LEGIONS of wonderful pit bulls who would never hurt a flea!! I never said there weren't. And mutts who have killed, never said there weren't. Jess, I am sorry I'm making you sick. But I am equivalent of a genocidal maniac just because I suggested that MAYBE human being's SELECTIVE BREEDING of certain dogs be curtailed in order to stop a culture that leads to cruelty and abuse?! (A culture which some of you conveniently look away from; at best?!) Humans own dogs. We decide if, when, and to whom they breed. So I guess this makes all of us slave masters? OK if you think that, go join PETA.
-
So, now mutts dont bite/maul or kill?? Thats ridiculous.
Sure some do, but you said ones like mine. Find me one like mine who has maimed/killed. In reality that is just a distraction from the main issue, which we will never agree on, which we have been around the block on many times, so we may as well forget it. But I do appreciate Alan's trying to see my point of view, and everyone who is interested in a solution beyond BYB; one that would work. Like I said I don't know if such a solution exists.
-
No I don't agree with BSL, the main reasin being that it would not work. I don't know what would work though. And I am pretty sure that breeding more APBT's, no matter how wonderful thay are, is not a healthy step toward a solution if one does exist. By the way if you can find a report of a dogl like Buddy killing or maiming someone please send it along. If it helps you in your search, the best guesses on his breed are lab/BC, beagle/springer, or lab/basset. Oh yes, and he's CGC, TDI and of course proudly nuetered. Bring on those news reports of maulings by dogs similar to him then, can't wait to see them.
-
I agree with many of your points, but I don't see the licensing for all breeding happening any time soon, sadly. I do not think the pit bull phenomenon is just a repetition of history though. It seems to ba far more widespread and insidious as anything the dog world has ever seen. I think some more creative solutions are required. I don't know what that is. I know that bans will not work, but turning our heads will not work either. See my other post; I am sick of it.

A 10 year old mauled by his own family's dogs and just hanging on. They broke all the rules, of law and common sense, as many pit bull owners do. The whole breed suffers, as well as those who truly love the whole breed. If you love these dogs is it worth promoting their "responsible breeding" just so more af them can suffer and be tortured? Would it be not more humane to let them phase out into the pages of history? Can we keep ignoring the legions of pit bull BYBs and torturers? edited to take out the last line, which was a prediction on my flaming. Also to add the link so you know what I'm talking about: http://denverpost.com/carman/ci_3181341

Did anyone read about this? I have been following the whole thing rather closely. A couple of facts: one of the dogs was a pit-chow mix according to reports. One nuetered male, one intact male and one intact female in heat. The boy's family's own dogs. http://denverpost.com/carman/ci_3184704 Opinions, reactions? (edited)

I have heard that Mastiffs can be a handfull (times twelve!) And, I don't think there are any "mellow" puppies no matter what the breed. Not that your big one would hurt the other one on purpose necessarily, but it's hard to say if there would be accidents especially with a huge rambunctious pup about. Curious as to why you are so into purebreds? If you rescued you could be more sure about temprament and you could save a pup that no one else wants ... At any rate, best of luck and welcome to Dogo! :P

Happy Birthday you sweetie pie!!! :bday:

Thanks everyone! DO, I am going to make some of these heat pads! Now I know what to do with the aging brown rice in my pantry and the rose pedals and herb flowers that are fading in my garden. It also gives me an excuse to get a microwave. Hellloooo, microwave popcorn! Off to the thrift stores now ... I am also going to find an old comfy chair or loveseat, and some throw rugs. Hubby wan't know what happened to the mud room!

Does anyone know of a c@t thread that is a good paralell universe to Dogo? I need some serious advice on Gladysse in helping her (and us) through what are probably the last weeks of her life. And / or, can anyone here advise on care of our very senior kitty? She is just starting to urinate outside of her box at times, most recently 4 this morning in our bed when she went down for a snuggle between us. Vet has cleared medical causes except for probable senility along with her chronic renal failure, (which we are managing with sub-Q fluids). We are comfortable and able to keep up with accidents during the day, but having our sleep deprived and our mattress, furniture, etc. ruined as a result of night accidents is not a good option. We are thinking of setting her up in the room off the kitchen where her litter box is now; decking it out with blankets, heated kitty bed, food / water spots, etc ... and shutting her in here at night. I am an insomniac and would be going in to check on, and cuddle with her a couple times through the night. 1. Is this cruel? 2. Any advice on setting up the space ... what we should include? 3. would there be danger of electrical shock if she peed on a heated kitty bed? 4. Any other advice?

Agreed, ladies! Of course there is a difference between Dirty Old Guys (desirable) and slime bags under rocks (go back under your rock, please)
