Hmmm, does anyone else hear a skipping record?
-
 tosa must have searched for "dosa" ! Correct me if I'm wrong but, it may be bad form to post in old threads but not a "criminal" type offense is it?

Whether you buy or make it, choose foam instead of batting. I've found that the ones stuffed with "fiberfill" are sooop wonderful at first, but after a couple of weeks they get very lumpy. Twice I have completely replaced the filling in expensive commercial beds with the little foam pieces; these work great. By my experience some dogs are put off by the ones with solid foam mats though. I'm sure you could make a much better one than you could buy, but I understand the lazy factor! :P

Sugar I have to say WOW too! Yours are the Lassies that my mind's eye saw when I read the old books! The Hollywood Lassies do not even come close to the beauty of yours. Stunning. Now the the original post (sorry I got sidetracked! ) I too vote for an older rescue, purebred or not. One that has a proven track record of being good with children, and hhas worn off it's puppy energy.

Puppies Born at Straydog *updated*

Shedding tears for poor Spice ... yes, she deserves the best home in the world. -
Hey, thanks for sharing! What an eye opener. And here I was thinking that the only breed of dog that ever bites is pit bulls   (Sorry Alan, my sarcasm got the best of me! I know you were just passing it on. 8) ) That was SO not my point but I can see how, if someone read some of my earlier posts in this thread they might get the impression that I am just another ignoramus who thinks all pit bulls are baby killers, etc. Your aquaintance's page is well written and a fine message, if not somewhat like a broken record and therefore reflective of my real point, that too many pit bull advocates refuse to accept or admit that there is a multi-faceted, unprecedented crisis that surrounds and victimizes these wonderful innocent dogs.

Okay this is the OP here ... this thread has been fun (well at first it was heartwrenching...) but I vote that we shut it down now! But I love you all truly, truly I do! :D

Sorry I'm not an expert (but there are some who will probably chime in :P ) However you mentioned this incident happened in training class ... did the trainer see it? Can you ask his / her assessment (even if they didn't see it)? Just a thought, and welcome!

By the way if you can find a report of a dogl like Buddy killing or maiming someone please send it along. If it helps you in your search, the best guesses on his breed are lab/BC, beagle/springer, or lab/basset. Oh yes, and he's CGC, TDI and of course proudly nuetered. Bring on those news reports of maulings by dogs similar to him then, can't wait to see them.
I have not read all pages of this discussion yet - so forgive me if I bring something up that already has been overly discussed... My dog (probably Ridgeback mix) has CGC as well - passed it excellently - and is neutred. That does not mean that I would say that he would never ever bite, maul or do something similar. Of course, I think he would not do it nor has he ever done anything nearly like it, but I can't be sure. After all it is an animal and might just react on something. It is my responsibility to keep this possibility minimal and to keep him out of situation which may trigger something like that. That includes not letting him running around, socialize him properly and make sure, he trusts me. All in all - it is my believe that it is always the owner's fault not the type of breed of the dog.
I agree with you raven. And I do not believe Buddy (or any dog) is 100 percent certain never to bite in any circumstance. When I posted that I was a sputtering child ... reacting to a perceived "shove on the playground." Not proud of it.

Well one of my dumbass redneck neighbors was bringing his new puppy home (adopted from the pound, ONE thing I'll give him credit for  ) and of course he has to tie the poor thing in the back of his pickup because, can't get any dog hair in that new super crew cab I guess ... Anyway another car starts honking, flashing lighs and waving frantically at him ... so he pulled off, and the puppy is hanging by the leash and collar over the side of the truck bed. Luckily the puppy was fine and my neighbor decided to name him Strangle. :o In this instance I can't help thinkng tht a break-away collar could have deposited the pup right onto the busy high speed 2 lane road.
but now you've heard of them
OOOOOH you are BAD!!!

I haven't! You would probably be amazed at all of the celebrities I have never even heard of nor would recognize.
if you've never heard of them how do you know?
 Because people are constantly telling me "What do you MEAN you've never heard of [insert name i've never heard of here] ...
-
dude that is dave chapelle! he's a comedian -- you haven't heard of him?
I haven't! You would probably be amazed at all of the celebrities I have never even heard of nor would recognize.

Oh yeah, thanks HF, that would explain the title. I wasn't meaning to be so condescending, just a little poke in the ribs. Sorry Dr. John ...
-
sigh, all I can do is lead dog owners to water.......I can't make'm drink from the pond though...but at least I've done my job and made them aware of the situation
Yes you certainly have, you have done a thorough job. The basic pitch, the medical details, and now the anecdotes. In my opinion you can stop now, unless you want to talk about a different topic? That would be cool IMO ... :fadein:
-
 funny jeff, DrJohn I agree with others, it would be great to have a vet on, please stick around! Besides if we are people who sometimes get their panties in a bunch, you should fit right in! (That was meant to be a joke. Sort of! )

OH...MY...GOD! Three Landseers at my favorite rescue!!!
BuddysMom replied to JackieMaya's topic in Dogs in need
They are stunning! I think the adoption fee is not right but I can see why thay have to do it ... they are probably afraid someone would turn around and sell them for a profit. Also they may have had to buy the pups from a neglectful owner (? just speculation ... I saw a similar situation like that on petfinder, they upped their normal adoption fee from $100 to $500 for two apricot poodles).
