1.
If I remember right, I think Royal Canin is quite small as well, like cat food small....but we tried that years ago so don't quote me on it!
Peanut and Pixie have Royal Canin mini-breed dog food, which is very tiny, and shaped for easy chewing. I think I remember from the "actual size" pictures of the kibble that had all the different types that they were all pretty small.
2. I heard (from somebody trying to sell me THEIR dog food) that if the first ingredient is chicken, that meens a whole chicken, water, by products and all, and that once you dehydrate the chicken it moves down the list of ingredients to 4-5-6-7-ish, and that you want to look for "chicken meal" which is the already dried chicken to be the first ingredient. True?
3. No, no, no, pwrpufgrilz... You must not have read the description. These dogs are "adorable."
4. Yeah, we only have 4th fireworks here in Iowa too. My grandma had a shih tzu, only a puppy, who she had outside with her when the fireworks started. My grandma lived seriously 2 blocks from where they set of the fireworks from. So, the poor girl freaks out, and grandma said she'd better take the puppy inside. So, she just sets her inside the front door, shuts the door, and comes back to watch the fireworks. So this poor baby girl has no family inside with, she didn't even have a crate, or even a closet or small bathroom to get into. And the fireworks (of which a large propotion are just booms) are right next door. So, when the fireworks are almost over, one of my cousins goes to check on the puppy. Since the puppy was just loose in the house, when my cousin opened the door, she TOOK OFF. We looked for hours, but she was nowhere to be found. Then a couple of days later the pup found her way home, covered with burrs. Man, I love my grandma, but she is dumb as a stump about stuff sometimes.
5. Try www.petfinder.com. You can search for shelter dogs by zip code and age.
6.
Erect ears are a fault. The body should be heavy in front , chest is broad, deep and full. Well sprung rigs, broad at the shoulders and narrowing at the loin. The forelegs should be short, stout and slightly bowed and muscular. The hindlegs should be firm and well shaped. Legs which are too long are a fault. The tail should be slightly curled, (sickle-like). Screw tails are disqualifying. Any colors are acceptable. The coat should be thick soft, dense, and short. Long coats are disqualifying.
No really, it's a breed. Look "faults" and "disqualifications." Ooh and it's recognized by the ABA... :sg168: :HUT012: :smokin:
7. a t-shirt? Weird! Is there any reasoning why it's supposed to work?
8. Well, when I just went in, they were already just going to give Pixie a shot without Lepto. Because she had a had a cough when she was originally supposed to get the shot, I didn't get her in for shots until two weeks later, when they said they would also like to do the lepto shot. So she had two shots. One with dhpp(no lepto) with bordatella and one of just lepto. I had to sign a separate form acknowledging that they gave her a lepto shot.
9.
On the other hand all you downer buzzkillers are just makin me sad ... I'm going to go and watch more animal planet now.
Make sure you check the listings and keep a remote clicker handy before you tune in, just in case anything close to harsh reality intrudes on your "happy bubble".
10. I'm not finding anything online about how long they're infectious, but it does say the signs can stick around 7-10 days. I'd guess that they'd still be infectious if they're still coughing. Peanut's cough lasted several weeks however, due to his small trachea. He didn't eally have kennel cough anymore, according to my vet, just an irritated throat that needed to be soothed with cough syrup, so the cough didn't keep itself going.
11.
For your info no that is not my dog that is why I stated it was my bf's siter's yorkie. Duh. Anyways, im gonna recommend her to take it somewhere else because a little dog like that can die from anesthesia. I also heard little dogs die can die from getting fixed because anesthesia can be too strong for some dogs.
Peanut, my yorkie, came through his fix perfectly fine. 4 lbs, no prob.
12. pssst... Candy... Even though you changed forums from Breeding to Breeds, this is still Dogomania. And we still all just read what you had to say about breeding purebreds for just one litter, so someone can have just one puppy out of it. Oh, and how you feel about those "unhealthy" shelter animals that are so clearly not caused by BYBs... :wallbash:
13. Man, it hurts my head to read posts like that this early in the morning, and know that there's nothing you can do to break through that shield of blatant, purposeful ignorance. :wallbash:
you know what, yeah there are pure bred out there with lots of health problems that people don't want to pay for because they can't afford. Try finding some here in California pure bred and no problems. And yes there are probably a few that are in good shape but those are hard to come by. If your talking about puppy mills I can tell you I don't know any here in california or else I will go straight there and get me one myself. Why pay for one when you can rescue one.
Um, WTF? I must have missed the newsflash about puppy mills who give away free puppies for rescue, that don't have any health problems... Candy: How do I breed my dog? Dogos: Should you breed your dog? Candy: Yes. Dogos: Your anxious, possibly genetically unsound dog? Candy: Yes! Dogos: Even though there are a bajillion other homeless dogs out there? Candy YES! Dogos: Even though the bajillion other dogs were caused by bajillion other "one time only" litters? Candy: YES!!! Dogos: :wallbash: Candy: YES!!! yesyesyesyesyes YES!!!
14. Has anybody ever used "dental wipes"? I've been trying to brush Peanut's teeth, as he is getting bad breath, but even te small toothbrushes they have with the toothpast, and the "fingter tip" brushes are still a little bulky for me to get into P&P's mouths. I can't tell what I'm really hitting in there. I was thinking they need to make some of those "rip, zip, brush, ahhh" thingies that I've seen on commercials for pets, so I went to Petco, and VOILA, they have dental wipes. So, has anybody tried these? What do you think?
15. Unless it's a kind of kennel cough that snuck past a vaccine? Peanut and Pixie have narrow tracheas that kind of nudged into the collapsing trachea when they got some kennel cough? They had both had bordetella shots or sprays but still got a bit of a cough. Now that they're over the sick part, they don't have the problem anymore. Does that make sense? When they had a cough their small tracheas exacerbated it, and they had a whole bad cycle, but once the illness cleared up, they stoped coughing and their tracheas don't collapse.
16. I took Pix in to the vet yesterday for her puppy shots. I also wanted to ask about Pixie's feet sensitivities. She was freaked out to begin with, she kept trying to crawl up my shoulder to cuddle. Then they went to take her temp and she freaked. They took her into the back room, so one of the other nurses could hold onto her. 'Course once she was away from Mommy, she did just fine. But then they injected her, once for Distemper/Parvo, and once for Lepto. She was yelping and crying. The vet said, "Oh, I just don't think it's really that bad." And I'm sure she was overeacting, too. But then my sister took her home while I went back to work, and when I got home and Pixie woke up from her nap, she was sooooooo sore. Every time we went to pick her up, she'd cry (and my Mom would just about cry too, listening to her). Then when I went downstairs to get on the internet, she whimpered on every step as she came down after me. :( I gave her some supper and she went back to sleep again. Then we went up to bed, and she was the cuddliest she's ever been. Today she was all better. Man, that stuff is rough on her. She doesn't have a lot of room for that stuff to disperse.
17. if you do decide to wrap, maybe you could apply a little bit of Neosporin + Pain (<- I think that's what it's called...) That way maybe any little irratation or itching that's drawing Bailey's attention for a lick will be numbed out, and you'll get some anti-bac benefits. I don't think I'd do it without the wrap, since I don't know what ingesting would do...
18. lmao @ vasek tummy! I'm thinking the next time some stranger comes up to me and Peanut and asks about me breeding him to their "darling", I'll make sure to ask that they look into a "Hysteric Tummy" Operation.
19. There's a sticky about this on the Pictures forum. In a nutshell, you need to upload the picture to a image hoster (I use www.villagephotos.com, then you hit the "Img" button, copy the URL for the picture into your message, and hit the "Img*" button to close the tags.
20. Hopefully he didn't just get done cleaning the house...
21. I've never thought of them as nightmares, but Peanut has had some twitchy dreams. Might've been chasing some phantom bunnies down into their holes. As a Yorkie, he's pretty tiny, but as a terrier, he still likes to chase.
22. Wow. Just... wow.
23. I went into the neighborhood deli the other day, and took Peanut in with me. A girl who was in there freaked out and thought he was sooo cute, and where did I get him and she was going to get one in a couple of weeks and was he fixed, because it would be cool if we could breed them. Um. Yeah. 'Cause not only am I going to stud out my pet only puppy, but I'm going to stud him out to a random person I met in a deli, who is getting a puppy in two weeks but doesn't have any idea where she's getting her from yet that has already decided to breed her. And who is getting a small dog because she's going overseas soon to serve and will be leaving the puppy with her mom, and doesn't want the dog to be to hard for her to handle. Probably. Darn. I should have gotten her number.
24. The most popular breed in my neighborhood would be Yorkie (Peanut and the neighbor's dog Wrigley, and a girl who works in the coffee shop is getting one). I haven't seen any clear preference at the vets or Petco, but I've seen beagles, shepherds, pitties, goldens (1 doodle), a schnauzer, JRTs. Puppy class we had a couple of weims, a newfounland, border collie x's, a mini aussie, dobermans, etc...
