What to do in the event of an accidental dog bite.
katetsai replied to xavierandrea's topic in Aggression
Accident. Been there, done that! -
I can't believe he is pushing for this. What a horriable idea   What a idoit, I thought he was smarter than that. If i live in Cali, I would give him a piece of my mind. I really hope this does not pass.

The guy will get his due someday:evil:  . How could someone do such a thing... I totally agree with what everyone said about the situation. I don't believe he love his dog as much as he proclaim, and able to just put it to sleep because the dog is acting out that was part of his fault in the first place. I would not have allow anyone to mistreat my dog in the first place. You are not irrational and doing the right thing. I would have done the exact same thing. He don't reserve you as a friend.

My princess nicknames includes "stinker", "snot", "spoil brat", "pooper", "baby girl", and few more that i can't remember right now.

She is adorable. How could anyone resist those eyes :) You're so good for taking her in. I can't believe your neighbor didn't do anything when they first find out 3-4 days ago. Good luck in finding a home for the cutie.

there are BILLIONS of masquito around my area (twin cites), so I am definitly not going to take the risk, so my baby is on heartwarm (HeartGuard). too bad, I would love to not having to pay for it and save those $$ for more yummie treats!

I definitly see the beagle, but don't see the GS. maybe few more pictures of the cute puppy :D .

Poor puppies!  those people have a special place reserve for them in hell. It's too bad so many people are totally mis-informed and not willing to do some research before getting their puppies. The puppie mills puppies are in such bad condition, yet they charge more compare to reputable breeders. lilwiljill, everyone make mistakes, now that you're more educate, spread the word & make sure to get your puppie full check-up. You might be one of the very few lucky ones that got a healthy dog, but sadly yours is the exception, not the trend. Good luck with your new puppy and take good care her.

I can't believe people do that to dogs  . They are not allow to do that to kids. I wish they would punish people like that as if they just throw a kid out the window. You're so kind to take him in... Good luck finding a home for hime.

I love rotties. Besides dobies, I will probably want a rottie. All of them are so nice, have not met one that's not a big baby.

I currently have Allstate home insurance and have a dobie. My agent didn't say it was a problem, he did ask about if my dog bit anyone... which is no. So maybe it all depends on the location and the individual agents.

I was not so sure about getting a dog when my hubby suggested it. We went to the local humain soceity and found a lab/pointer mix at first, but the dog was reserve by another person and eventually he adopted the dog. So we went back a few days later and saw my princess. When every other dog was barking like crazy, she glue herself to the gates and let me pet her, and I could have done that for hours. After some hesitation, we decided to take her home. She's been with us ever since, and we love & spoil her to death! She almost poop in our new townhouse the first day coming home. We got her outside in time to do her business. I remember how she was afriad of going up the stairs the first day also. We have her now for 4 years, and can't imagine not having her all these times. Although next time I believe I'll probably go thru dobie rescue since that are such good dogs.

This remind me of my stupid actions when I was little and don't know any better. When I still little I believe I was 8 year old back in Taiwan, my sister & I wanted puppies so bad that we got got one from a man around the neighbor. Not wanting to get into trouble from my parents, we hide the dog up on the top floor in a crate, and went up to go visit each day for no more than half hour. Eventually (thank god) my dad found out and we got into big trouble. My told us how cruel it were to keep those puppies in such little space for so long, and out in the elements. I have no idea where My dad took the puppies, but I would guess to a pond or friends. I feel so bad now everytime I thought about that incident, since I would never do such a thing if I have know better. I would never make that mistake again.

I would get your $$ back from the vet, then find another vet who knows what they're doing. A dog that's fixed should never get pregnent... the vet is not doing his job.

Almost spit out my lunch onto my monitor when I saw the picture.   Here is a position that require lots of neck-flex. Use to walk with this lady at the dog park that also have a Leonbuger... I always remember the breed as "soemthing with hamburger" . Anyway, I also use to see this dog in the dog park that looks just like a mini-dobie, but the guy say it's a manchester terrier... super fast & hyper dog that chases my dobie around. Other more rare breed (not sure if its really rare) I've seen are Newfy, ridgeback, vizlas, blue heeler, besenji, pyrenees, GS mountain dog, Irish wolfhound, italian greyhound, and Kuvasz. There might be a few others that I can't remember. Dog park, they got lots of varieties!

It would be nice if someday rescue groups ran out of rescue dogs. The sad thing is that'll never happen  . Everyone should get their dogs from rescue but some people insist on puppies thinking they're so cute, but 6 month later it's another story, especially if they don't exercise them. I hate how the world works today with people being so cruel & irresponsible. I'm get so mad & sad everyone I think about it.

Dobies! I have one now and she's my first... so you could say love at first sight. I wouldn't mind having a rottie someday, but then I love dobie too much to switch.

Thanks for all the info. I've stop by the store (where I get my dog food now) for some doggie toothpaste - Petrodex. I tried it last night, and she doesn't seem to mind it. so the next hard part will be for me to keep up with the brushing schedule... at least 3-4 times a week. Very ambitious :) .

so cute! love the belly shot!
-
alright, I caved as usual, and went out today to get the doggie toothpaste. It's the only one they got at target, nothing special, i.e. no flavor. Sounds like there are better one out there, i.e. with yummie flavor, besides the boring toothpaste I got. so chances are I'll be at the pet store sometime today to get the good stuff, can't have my princess suffere with the boring stuff.

where can I get the raw bones? are you talking about the bones that's at pet store that usually have stuff in the middle? or are you talking about actual super market people food raw bone?
-
My goal was to brush her teeth once a day(I know, very ambitious), since that's what the vet recommand. I'm thinking if I ended up doing it once a week long term, I'll be so pround of myself :) . Snoopy already do get small raw-hide once a day, but that does no help for her breath  . so sounds like to be on the safe side, I should just get doggie tooth paste.

Question about toothpaste... I've just started again to brush my dog's teeth to get rid of her bad breath, and oh yeah, i'm suppose to. I am wondering if using the toothpaste (for example: colgate) is bad for the dog? I put a very tiny bit on the toothbrush and brush her teeth with it, then she'll swallon/lick whatever is left. is shouldn't be a big deal right?

I've have done the bitter apple spray thing to stop my dog from barking also. It worked for awhile, but the natural dobie instinct wins out... I stop using it because she doesn't do it as often anymore, especially she is starting to get use to the neighborhood people anyway(we been in the current house for almost 2 years). Also, I got tired of looking at my dog foaming like a mad dog trying to get the yucky taste out. I have accidentally ingest some a few times, and it's definitly not good taste, but it's better than shock collars for sure. I feed dry dog food, so it doesn't take that much time to get the food ready, but I do make her sit & stay watching me putting the food in the dish. She'll droll like niagra fall waiting for the "ok" command to eat. Although once awhile she'll sneak a taste in cause she's so anxious to eat! Good Luck with the training.
