I've been posting this all over because I'm so excited! One for the fuzzy team! YAY! I went to Petland the otherday and I was so horrified by what I saw I went to the store and bought a digital camera and returned the next day and snuck a bunch of pictures These pictures don't even remotely do the dogs medical conditions justice. They look so much worse in person. These aren't all that clear. These dogs were obviously genetic disasters. If you look at the weims legs...check out how low the hocks are while the dog is standing straight up and the joints are so knobby. She was the sweetest dog though    Weimaraner sides are severely sunk in between her ribs and legs... Mini Pincher Weim Hip Bones protruding.... This is a top view looking down at her back. top of the picture is her hips and bottom are her shoulders. I turned them in and I'm filing a report along with the pictures. Animal control informed me they are going to try and press charges against them if they still have the puppies...which I believe they did up until tonight. They were going to send an animal control officer out tonight...
Dogs aren't like humans with loss, they don't know they lost anything, and they won't be sad.
I have to say I must respectfully disagree with this. infact...on my side, here's one reason why I disagree... click here I appreciate that people have given their opinions on this but are not willing to judge upon the decision. It is a very personal decision to make.

Have you checked the therapy dog association sites at all like Delta and such? It will give you an idea of what is expected and the testing that they do... www.deltasociety.org/ There is all kinds of stuff on the internet for this. If you do a search for therapy dog training you'll find all kinds of stuff but I would definately check the websites through the companies you are wanting to become certifed through for the qualifcations.

Here are a couple good discussions we had about titers http://dogden.proboards21.com/index.cgi?board=Health&action=display&num=1076178542 http://dogden.proboards21.com/index.cgi?board=Health&action=display&num=1074909273 If you don't know anything about vaccinosis...I highly suggest reading up on it. Most people think vaccinations are pretty safe :-? Here is a great site where you can learn a LOT about it http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TruthAboutVaccines/
the following things come to mind about the jindo: - high prey drive and hunting instinct, so not ideal if you have other animals or live in an area with a lot of wildlife (think dog chases squirrel and gets hit by car). - due to the above, you need a very secure yard and be diligent on obedience training, otherwise you'll never be able to give this kind of dog a chance to run off leash. - it's a highly independent and dominant breed. continuous socialization and training is a must and they are not always ideal additions for a multi-dog household. here in the L.A. area, they are fairly common, and a lot of them end up in the shelters , probably because their owners aren't prepared to deal with such a demanding breed.
Nothing I would argue here. I've heard numerous times they can be one of the hardest breeds to own because of their natural dominant and extremely independent nature amoung many other things. They are beautiful dogs though.

Temperament Testing, It's Not Always What You Think.....
KP replied to Lokipups's topic in Everything about dogs
Great post loki  :D -
I did everything I could to get out of doing these things. I just can't do it. Not my thing. I don't feel that it really serves a purpous to make people who have no interest in to to do it. If people want to take the class fine...let them take it and enjoy. Why should I have to? I never got anything out of it other than an upset stomach, bad memories and nasty smelling clothes. I learned nothing from it and had a bad time doing it. I personally could care less about an insect or worms internal organs and disecting a cat or pig would traumatize me. Not my thing...and not a lot of people's thing and I don't feel they should be forced to do it. Classes taken in college all the way as long as its not a mandatory class.

I have to say I am partial to Davar and Dante the most.... This cutie pie looks a bit refined and dignified...I'd probably go with Davar even though I like Dante the best of the two. I think Davar suits him the best.

You are right, it's a 6 month heart worm shot. I've seen a lot of stuff going around about this, this week. Kind of wierd.

It is a med. A small container of liquid flea, tick and misquito repellant that you apply to the skin on the neck. They sell stuff like this at pet stores but they aren't actually meds they are chemicals and they are not as effective.

Welcome to Dogo! Yes I use K9 Advantix as well and I have loved the results we have gotten. We have had NO problems and we live in NC which has really bad bug issues because of the weather and climate... I think you will like the results. Just make sure you *don't* bathe or let them get that area wet for at least 10 days after you have applied it or you will have waisted your money. It takes effect within 24 hours but it needs to be fully absorbed for it to work for its entire time frame...3 months. I usually bathe prior to application.

I've just had a few very informative threads on my forum about this topic you might want to check them out. There is even a dog list or group set up on the internet specifically about this that they left a link to with tons and tons of information. Kibble was discussed on my forum and I believe at this list... most of the information is in my Health and Nutrition forum. There are more than just these three that you might find helpful. Many of my members feed raw so if you have any questions it would be a good place to ask as well  http://dogden.proboards21.com/index.cgi?board=Health&action=display&num=1074988013 http://dogden.proboards21.com/index.cgi?board=Health&action=display&num=1076023235 http://dogden.proboards21.com/index.cgi?board=Health&action=display&num=1077989149

We get them so bad here in this military city I live in. My husband has an injury from being a paratrooper. His parachute didn't open all the way and he came down on his head...giving him a brain injury which we've been dealing with for 8 months. Everytime the door bell rings or someone knocks on the door and the dogs go crazy he about loses it. I put a note on our front door....so they actually all the sudden started going to the side door and then they'd say that they didn't see the note on the front door when I said something about it  I ended up putting notes on both doors that if they were selling or promoting ANYTHING at all that because of the abuse and lack of respect we've taken in with this problem being around here we didn't want anything and weren't interested. Every once and awhile one will still be ballsy enough to knock or something but for the most part we don't get too many visitors anymore.
If we got the dog overpopulation problem under control, I wouldn't mind it. But until than no way.
I'm kinda with you there kendalyn...
- they are short with money and they need it fast.
 This one kind of made me laugh... How long does it take to spit out a litter of pups again?    They could probably find like 5 extra jobs at least in the amount of time it takes to bare those litters. I agree it should never be about the money. As much as I love so many mutts in my life, I don't agree with breeding cross breeds. They can make wonderful pets but I just don't think given the pet population is at an all time high that its right to breed dogs just to breed them. There is more to the gene pool than that. I'm not much of a believer that mixes are healthier than pure breds either. I'd like to see the written facts backed up with research on where everyone gets that information from...I have yet to find it. Great debate though :D

Nothing I'd really disagree with here :D Thanks Jeff! I'd love for you to check it out. My site is only about a month old so we are growing but steadily so far. It stays pretty busy during the day over there though. Those people are yackers. :D I've known many of them for about 2 years now. We kind of found eachother on another message forum and stuck together and move around finding stuff like this to help with. Thats when I decided to finally put this board together. I think muzzles can be a very positive step in an appropriate direction if needed. I also agree it is possible for them to be used improperly definately. There are certain styles that I would go with such as the wire basket muzzle over the mesh or nylon style. As for the water. I agree. Don't withhold water. What I do is if my dogs are around I don't let them charge the bowl as I'm putting it down. That is the only time I make them work for it, is when I'm re-filling their bowl and they want water. I make them sit before I set it down and give them a few seconds to wait it out. Then I release. Do you feed at certain times or do you free feed? (keep food out all the time?) As for the toys.... pretty much the same idea. It's not necissarily because she would be aggressive over these things, its reinforcing the fact that you are alpha. It's not really about living around her issues...its about her living around your rules. In order to become alpha she needs to learn to look to you for guidance and to know that there are rules that she must abide by...not the other way around. As someone on my site once put it, becoming alpha is not a training session, it is a way of life. With my dogs they must perform a task before they get the toy to play with. That is their *reward*. I don't necissarily give them a time limit with them but just so that they stay interested in their toys I usually will play with them and the toy for awhile and take the toy away while they are still ready to play...instead of when they get bored with it. It is a way of not only building their play drive and keeping it up but associating the fact that you are alpha as well. You choose when the play begins and when it ends. I then put the toy up until I'm ready again later.

I recieved a message that they will be temporarily changing our domain name from http://dogden.proboards21.com/index.cgi to http://dogden.proboards30.com/index.cgi For some reason the host has turned off our server connection with the company that runs our board and they may be filing legal disputes if it is not fixed within 24 hours. Just giving you a heads up. One of these links should work!
She doesn't like anyone touching her neck sometimes. I have a real problem with removing and putting her collar back on. She growls real loud to the point I am afraid she may bite me.

I can't touch her feet to clip her nails. I have to have the vet do it and even they muzzle her first.
You are dealing with dominance issues. Your dog has a rottweilers disposition. That is not to say that they are naturally aggressive dogs but the majority have the tendency to become leader of the pack if they are not raised with a firm hand. They will take over. One dog grabbing, nipping, biting at another dogs neck is a form of dominance. This is why she is not allowing you do have any access to these areas. The fact that she is not letting you do this is telling me she has no question in her mind that she rules the roost in your home. What she says goes. I don't feel that your dog is aggressive at this point. I feel that your dog has dominance issues. You need to get this under control or you WILL be visiting the hospital at some point down the line treating a pretty severe bite. I don't think this will be a small one. She's warning you at this point not to cross your boundries. This can lead to aggression once this gets implanted in your dogs head.
My biggest problem happened two weeks ago Sunday. She was lying in my husbands lap in the recliner and they were both sleeping.
This has got to stop. Plain and simple. Higher rank dog always gets to be the dog on top. By him allowing this dog to sit, lay or even have its front paws on him or anyone else in the house he is telling this dog in its own language that she is above him in rank. You are playing with fire if you allow this to continue. Because this dog has dominance issues she should not be able to have access to furniture including the bed. Lower dog on the totem poll lays on the floor. Alpha sleeps on the furniture or gets to be anywhere at an elevated surface. She eventually will become territorial over these things if she isn't already if you don't get a hold on the problem. She should have to work for every single privliedge she gets...that includes her dinner. She should perform a task for everything whether it is a sit, or down. She must hold that position till being released... period. If she doesn't, she doesn't get the privilidge. (sp?) You can take it away and give it to her when she does the task properly a few minutes later.
Is this fixable?? What can I do?
This is DEFINATELY fixable hun :D No doubt in my mind. Your dog is still very young and trainable. I highly suggest you visit my site which I will leave a link at the bottom of this post in my signature line. I have many professional trainers, behaviorists even a woman with a doctorate as an animal pathologist at my site. These people have all dealt with aggression and dominance in their dogs or dogs that they foster. Some of these people deal with aggression DAILY in other dogs. (Including myself) We have a LOT of knowledge and advice to offer you. I promise you, this can be handled! I really hope to see you there. (Edited : If you have problems getting in...I have been informed by my host that there are problems with the server right now....The link is correct so if you can't get in just give it some time. I will come back if things aren't fixed in awhile and let you know whats going on.)

I think they are part Wiem. Hands down. You can't always judge a dogs genetics by just looking at them. I don't like that this person is charging more for a dog that isn't even registerable under the discription he is giving and selling under.
An AKC representative was sent to observe these dogs. The report and color photographs of these dogs were reviewed by AKC staff and representatives of the Labrador Retriever Club of America. Both Parties were satisfied that there was no reason to doubt that the dogs were purebred Labrador Retrievers, however they felt that the dogs were incorrectly registered as silver. Since the breed standard at the time described chocolate as ranging in shade form sedge to chocolate, it was felt that the dogs could more accurately be described as chocolate rather than silver. This remains the current policy of the American Kennel Club.
