1. Laws like this frequently have no effect on the irresponsible people and create more burdin for the responsible ones. If a person is already not registering and licensing their animal, what makes the lawmakers think that they are going to rush out and microchip them? If they will break one law, they will certainly break another. I will say that I don't believe someone is irresponsible if their dog or cat is not microchipped. Buck is registered and licensed but he is not microchipped. I find the microchipping redundent since I always know where Buck is and he is not left unsupervised and in a position to get lost. Plus, his license number and his ID tag with my phone number and his name will tell anybody who finds him where I live and how to reach me. I know the license system works fine because I once found a dog with a license from the Detroit area (3 hours away from me) and I was able to track down his owners with that information. Likewise, just because your dog is microchipped doesn't mean you are a responsible dog owner. I would be interested to know how many people on here have their dog microchipped?
2. I have to say that I don't see the reason for tail docking ( or ear cropping for that matter) on dogs that are going to be pets. Maybe it makes sense for the few dogs that do work, but the vast majority have no real reason to have their tail docked. I still don't believe that it is really that beneficial for dogs that are working. I mean if the dog is taken care of properly they should never have a build up of feces anywhere on their body. It just seems like an unnecessary procedure that will increase the chances for infection or other complications for the puppy.
3. so how many of these animals are fixed? I would seperate the females that are in heat from the males first of all. I good way to seperate them would be to take the males in to be neutered. Take the cat in to make sure it is pregnant.
4. My dog did not have Parvo but he was dying from an unknown ailment that also caused him to stop eating and barely drink. I requested admission and an IV to rehydrate him and the vet said no. Some won't do it. I have no idea why. She just said that they don't do that.
5. they are very pretty indeed. I've never heard of them before
6. Lina, your pups are very sweet! And lithuania looks like a beautiful country also. I have always wanted a Bernese Mountain Dog. I just love huge dogs! Maybe one day...
7. sorry, all I know is that they are small, with short legs and long ears.
8. I will surely have to try it out :)
9. Once Buck pounced right on top of a bunny, but I think it kind of scared him and he pounced off and the bunny ran away! I was glad :-)
10. sounds like maybe it's time to give out the recipe for chicken broccoli bake! It sounds too good to miss!
11. That name is adorable! He kind of looks like a Jedi :)
12. Trust your instincts. If you feel like it's something you want, than go for it. Just make sure it's right for your partner too. BTW, he is a cutie :)
13. I noticed that too. I have no idea :-?
14. I'm sorry to hear about the death of your pug  Thank you for the information about this drug. I'm sure it will help somebody else.
15. My point is that at 14 most kids are not financially secure enough to adequately care for a dog unless the parents are going to provide monetary support. That is why I asked how supportive Wolfy's parents are. It makes a big difference. What if the dog gets sick? What if he/she has a chronic disease that requires ongoing treatment? Dogs need shots every year, a license that also costs money, and food. It is pretty hard to find a job at 14 and in reality he/she shouldn't be focusing on that anyway.
16. Wow, no apology! Your brother could have gone straight to animal control without even showing the courtesy to talk to her. She should be very grateful because it is not fun to have animal control at your door.
17. Well you are only 14 according to your other post. That alone is a good reason not to adopt the dog out to you. What do your parents say about all this?
18. Go volunteer at a shelter or rescue. It will look good on your college applications, you'll get to help some dogs that really need it and you will learn more about how to keep a dog responsibly. How can you be sure the abuse from the other kids won't happen again? Also an apartment is too small for the large breeds you are looking at.
19. You can try boundary training. Walk her around the perimeter on a leash and don't let her go out of it. And keep her on a leash while she is outside until she is good at it. It will probably take a while but you need to be able to control your dog if the neighbors don't want her in their yard. Also since this is your first dog you really need to attend a good training class. A private traininer could help you with the boundary training. Buck has the boundary training down, but we still watch him while he is outside. You still won't just be able to leave her alone. Especially if you have people coming and going in cars. Can you teach her the "leave it" command? You can use it to get her away from the cats when she is getting too rowdy.
20. Can't you just go without him?
21. That is way cool! Good dog Laurel :D
22. So many people think that "you get what you pay for" applies to dogs. These ignorant people go out and find these breeders asking ridiculous prices and think that they have to shell it out in order to get a good dog. I have a good friend (who has never in her life owned a dog) who told me she wanted to buy a bullmastif from her aunt for $600. Her aunt is most definately a BYB. I mentioned the wonderful dogs in shelters that would love to have a home and would be a lot cheaper and she would have less worry about possible genetic problems. She told me that mutts are only good dogs about half the time. She says I really lucked out with Buck because it's really a gamble to adopt a mix. I honestly had to count to ten before I replied. The bottom line is that people just don't know. Especially people that never had dogs growing up.
23. Ohhh... I always feels so good when your dog finds a friend :-)
24. You tried so hard and did everything right by her. She was lucky to have you. Be free Sassy

Food dish

You can buy dishes for puppies and kittens that have a cone in the middle so the food stays near the edges where they can easily reach it. You should be able to find it in any petstore. You could also just use any small dish that you happen to have at home. The kittens aren't going to be picky about what the dish is like.
