ACS GIVES IN - AGREES TO NOT AUCTION COMPANION ANIMALS
imported_Kat replied to Rosebud's topic in Everything about dogs
Thats really fantastic news to hear, and I hope that other states will indeed follow the example! -
Certainly you should have had a pedigree registration by now. Notify the kennel club if you receive no confirmation from the breeder by the due date. It isn't responsible breeding if he/she doesn't produce the legal documentation and the breeder can actually lose their licence over this in the UK, although I am not sure if the same applies in the USA.

And yet another fantastically super duper well done! :D

That fantastic!! Really well done :D

Some people just can't leave alone whats not theirs. I know how you feel and that gut feeling of finding out your dog has been stolen is the sickest feeling ever, I found out when Meg was stolen. *hugs to all*

Anyone heard of this? How to prevent?
imported_Kat replied to mommacat's topic in Veterinary information
Coccidiosis is an infection caused by a parasite that uses birds as its host. It is extremely prevalent at this time of year when birds are starting to increase their movements by migrating and the pathology of the infection usually causes colitis, which is where the blood is coming from that your friend sees. Antibiotics like Oxytetracycline or Ampicillin with Sulphasalazine to coat the bowel are all effective treatments. In older dogs it isn't as serious as it is with puppies, but the dogs contract the infection by licking the bird droppings containing the parasite off their feet. Suggest to your friend that he/she could wash the dogs feet after they are finished hunting, as this will minimise chances of infection. -
What breed is she? Basics for lead pulling as follows (have to be brief sorry, I've an essay waiting for me  ). If she is suitable for a halti then yes use one. It will take a bit of getting used to, but will be worth the investment. I'm totally against prongs and choke chains and the club where I am a trainer, they are banned. Start by teaching your dog a basic sit and sit her on your left hand side. Load your pockets with treats (cheese liver etc), and let her know that you have food in your hand, holding it just above her muzzle. Use the word Close and step off on your left foot. If she immediately pulls, give her lead a short sharp tug and change your direction of walking by using her name sharply. Repeat this walking at a brisk pace and changing direction each time she pulls. After a few direction changes she will get the idea. At this point when she anticipates your direction change and comes reasonably close to your left leg, she gets the reward. This isn't a quick fix, but its the beginnings. Keep practicing this, and soon Roxy will get the idea that by pulling she will get no where. One thing you shouldn't do is allow her to pull forward as effectively that supports her and in her doggy mind she likes this and thinks she is being a good girl. She will learn that staying close to your left leg on a loose lead is a nice place to be, and thats where she gets treats. Good luck and update me on your progress

What a clever pupper Indy is! :D
-
Hey there, Pups are usually changed onto adult food when they reach about 6 months as that is the stage (depending on breed) when they change to their adult teeth. If Miles is eating the adult food with no upset stomachs then gradually just reduce the puppy food until he is solely eating his adult food. As far as nutrients goes, a potato or a slice of brown bread does wonders for developing puppy bones.

It just occurred to me today that some of you folks are in the UK. Are any of you planning to go to Crufts next March, and indeed any other nationalities? If so it would be great to meet up! I think I will be there for all 4 days, because I usually get roped into doing demos for Canine freestyle and the Kennel Club Good citizen dog scheme as well as competing, but it will depend if we qualify for the team Obedience as test C dog, in the main ring which will be so scary but cool! :D

Hey K I'll make you a deal. You teach me to speak better Dutch and I'll help with English if I can! I can recognise words and things but the whole verb reversal is just pickling to my brain! :o Really have to learn to speak it better so I know what they say to me in the super de boer! We have to meet up at some point! I'm in Lelystad for a party not this coming but next Saturday night, but I've no idea of the area! Knuffeltjes en kusjes en balletjes voor jouw honden! :D

No matter how many times I see animals subjected to cruelty I still get sick to my stomach. Poor poor little Will. That trust he still has...that trust that should make him so aggressive to the species that mistreated him so badly, its just sad. I was involved in giving evidence in a court case once for a severely beaten and malnourished Lurcher called Lady. She was brought into the court room for me to identify her and she whined and wagged her tail furiously when she spotted her owner...Dogs are so forgiving...

Is all this bickering really necessary? Life is too short to argue, you don't know whats round the corner and any one of us could be involved in a fatal car crash (Heavens forbid), so is it really worth it? Living in NI, in a country that is tense, I live for life and live it like it is my last. A friend of mine was involved in the Eniskillen bomb a few years ago and I never got to say goodbye, although I was always great friends with him, but since then and since an incident where I nearly lost my life during a heart operation, I live for life, and so should everyone. Life is a gift, its precious and so many of us just abuse it.

How to teach your dog to learn - its fun!
imported_Kat replied to Aroura's topic in Everything about dogs
Yeah go for it! Doggy dancing is great fun! Meg and I have routines to Grease lightning and Abba's Dancin' queen, and have performed both at Crufts. Dogs love to learn and it keeps them stimulated so I'm delighted to hear you are teaching your new pup  -
Best of luck and more importantly ENJOY it! You will aways take the best dog home at the end of the day :D Hugs n wags, Kat and Meggie

The dog ate my homework....really!!!
imported_Kat replied to 3ofakind's topic in Everything about dogs
LOL aww the poor kid. I can remember once that I had an essay done for uni that was a rushed last minute job that I put no effort into  I left it printing and came back upstairs to find it coming off the printer and Abby my scottish wild cat tearing it to shreds as it rolled out of the printer. I could have murdered the wee runt! She doesn't like the printer at all and sees it as some kind of threat so now she can't be left alone with it!!
