I am not aware of any books, but if your dog has a submissive temperament, build her confidence by using a light happy voice and encourage her to interact with you, using tuggy balls. If there is any particular exercise you need pointers on, then give a howl.

I can tell you now that those are not pedigree Border Collies. They have been mixed with Shetland sheepdogs.

The line of defence was idiotic in my opinion, letting another dog out which easily could have ended up mauled and the casualty list would have escalated. On the Akita Pitbull reference, I don't see how the two breeds can be confused. They are totally different in every morphology.

EXCELLENT to hear! :multi: I am so delighted for you both!

Very cute :D

Hi there I petsit, but I wouldn't call it a business. Here no legislation is needed in Northern Ireland so sorry I can't assist you as I'm imagining you are in the usa. Good luck! :D

Rosewood cages are great for travelling now and again. They fold down so easily and go flat. By the way Court, us UK lot use the word cage, not crate..language differences!

Today Meg and I had an obedience show. The sendaway was set up in such a way so the back marker was just below a little stage. I set her up and she had a clean outrun, then hit the back marker, and I didn't get the command Down in fast enough. My buck eejit of a dog jumped onto the stage and went down. From there she did her recall. She was all pleased with herself too knowing she had done a great sendaway! We ended up 3rd because of that little mishap otherwise it would have been a 1st. I tried arguing with the judge that she was on the back marker..just at a slightly more elevated level :biggrina: We went to the beach after and got a few shots so just posting them in the photo forum now :D

Indeed hope all went according to plan and update us when you can

Does he always sit like this or just at times? I see you have a wooden floor which isn't easy to sit straight on for a doggy! I see what you mean about him splaying. It could possibly a vertebrae problem in his spine or his hips may have slight dysplasia. I don't want to alarm you, but I'm just mentioning these. If you are really concerned then take a trip to your vet

Meg gets fed in the morning 3 cups of dried food slightly moistened (Pedigree advance..no comments on pedigree please..she has always been on it and with such an active high basal metabolism its the only food that sustains her blood glucose levels and I am happy with the nutritional value). If she is going to a show, she would get less than half her daily ration, just to make sure there is something to give here energy. Also she gets vitamin E capsules, brewers yeast and garlic. Vit E is great for their heart muscle and also for dogs skin. I believe all dogs should be on it! Zoe my Golden is an old girly so she gets 2 pieces of toast in the morning then at tea time quarter of a bowl of bakers complete moistened with half a tin of pedigree senior, with the vitamin E, brewers yeast and garlic.

Crufts are holding the first ever world championship obedience and I was told at a meeting tonight that Meg and I are on the list as candidates. We have to go to the final selections during this month also will be the same day for the regional Crufts obedience team selections, but I'm really honoured that we have been chosen as candidates! I'm very surprised since I haven't worked Meg all summer with being away in Netherlands, but she still remains top Obedience dog in N.I. with her points. This will be huge competing against teams from America, Canada and the major countries in Europe including France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands etc Paws crossed and I will update you all when we have the final selections! hugs n wags, Kat and Meg :olympic:

Hi folks, I'm getting close to finalising my planning for my project which takes place on Saturday week (15th November) and on the last thing now. I am doing a questionnaire to assess owners perception of their dogs rank in a multi-dog household. Bearing in mind that these people are just dog owners and a lot won't know the intricacies of dominance and submission, what sort of questions do you think would be comprehensible to owners? Cheers! :Dog_run:

I will throw a spanner in the works here :P Standard poodles were originally crossed with yellow Labradors years ago as a research exepriment by guide dogs for the blind association. Poodles are the 2nd most intelligent dogs and learn quickly and the Labrador was crossed for its disposition of calm and willingness. ALL of our recognised breeds were crossed at one point in evolutionary history. They are all consolidated in relation to their same chromosome number (78 ). I do disagree with crossing breeds and trying to create a separate gene pool, as there are already a diverse number of dogs(over 400 recognised worldwide and up to double that number not classified). However if that dog cross breeding is to provide a service dog and a dog that will work, as all dogs should, then I would be in favour of it. New fashion breeds however will not have a place in the show ring in the near future, and most judges unanimously agree that they are under enough pressure to judge too many breeds as it is, and wouldn't encourage new "breeds".

Hmmmm I'm a sceptic and with doing my thesis on social behaviour this year, I have to say that I wouldn't be rushing out to buy this gimick. The reason being dogs are not as expressive with their vocal signals as they are with their body language.

Dangerous Dog Warning From Animal Control!!!
imported_Kat replied to Sharpeigirl's topic in Everything about dogs
Shar I am not surprised that you are pissed off. Signs are certainly a good thing and as for them sending out the wrong signals, if you didn't have a sign you would be more liable. You are doing and have done everything right. -
Just work with her and use an associated word everytime she goes to the toilet (I use go hurry). With being in kennels where she was allowed to pee, she has to be retrained and by using a word and praising her when she goes, you will be on the right track. Good luck
