They aren't lecturing. They are giving experienced advice when it comes to breeding. Any successful breeder waits until the bitch is in age for giving pups. The body isn't completely matured until 2 years. Would you have your daughter have a baby within her first year of starting her period? I think not. We shouldn't have babies until we're 18 yrs old, when we are completely mature and go out on our own. A two year old dog is like a 18 year old human. A one year old is like a 9 year old. Which would you think would be a better parent? Animals that have babies to young risk losing their entire litter. A kitten had kittens when she just turned one. What happened? They all died. She didn't clean them, didn't take them out of their sacs. Did NOTHING because she was to young to understand. Lecturing, No. Educationing, Yes

Calm Down :o If we have offended you, it wasn't intentional. We just want to make sure your doing everything right with a Kenneled dog.. We wanted to make sure she was getting PLENTY of family-time, since all dogs are pack-oriented. The issue is clearly dominance. A good trainer can help clear that right up!
Each side has it's points. I do have to say that the BYB term is being thrown around a lot. I think it makes some people feel bad that really do love their dogs and try and give them a good life.
Well, pappajo, a backyard breeder doesn't 'care' about the health or life of each of their pups. A breeder that 'cares' isn't a backyard breeder. A breeder that has TOO many dogs can't garuntee each dog the special attention they deserve. And if they do NOT give health checks on both parents before the pregnancy, nor health checks/shots on all the puppies - thats auto-bad, no matter how much they care. BECAUSE they aren't showing they care. We've seen someone who thought we thought they were a backyard breeder because they didn't have the best of place. BUT they gave health checks, shots, grooming, etc. to each of their dogs and puppies. They even made sure that their puppies went to good homes. By NO means were they a BYB. One slip up is bad, but no one can always be perfect. Even the best breeders sometimes have 'oops' litters.

Why I'll be getting Monties dew claws removed
Aonir replied to Aroura's topic in Everything about dogs
Poor Montie! Better kiss his paws better and give him plenty of attention after the surgery! -

You know how we say to give your dog the best diet? Well, right nows a good time to forget about it. Getting her to eat anything (thats not toxic like chocolate) would be good right now. It's great that she'll be able to come home for the weekend

It's soo cute for some reason! I was playing fetch with her and wondered why she gave me the ball every time I tried to take it from her. Soo I opened her mouth and three of her canines are missing! She also likes to pull our ferrets tails and it just slips right out of her mouth... The ferrets love this and tease her now! She's losing her baby teeth! Now I'm making sure I leave more chewsticks out than usual, don't want her destroying anything as she grows her new fangs.
Another thing I was considering doing, was a $100 rebate on the presentation of a signed certificate from the vet stating that the dog had been speutered or alternatively I could pay for the op myself :-? Many breeders I have spoken to about that, have told me they don't think it'll work :-? so I'm still thinking about that one
The humane society in my hometown did that. They gave around $30 or so dollars in contribute to an unspayed/neutered dog/cat that they sold. They were to small to do it themselves, sadly.

Poor puppy :( -
I'm sorry that Sassy isn't doing so well.. But there IS a lot happening to her right now. All this stress is taking its toll on her. Have they tried wet food? That's easier to force-feed.. Plus it gots water.

Aww! Absolutely adorable!

Puppy Mills can be ANYONE, including if their dogs are champions. People can have puppies in a garage, no problem with that. As long as the garage is cleaned with no chemicals that the dog can eat/drinks. My breeder had a small yard and kept her dogs in her garage most the time. But she made sure they were groomed and walked. She didn't give them quality food, and they weren't champions, but she was no puppy mill. Why? because she made sure they were socialized, had all their shots and she even had a 'waiting list' PRIOR to breeding. She wasn't a puppy mill. She even had a good vet reference. They commented on how her puppies and dogs are well-mannered... Small house.. Small income.. One goal - breed quality pet dogs. No more than one litter per bitch a year.. 3 bitches. Now, someone who has champions and a BIG yard can STILL be a puppy mill. Just because they have a nice house and a champion doesn't mean the animal is treated correctly. The pups could be born in a nice room, but with no fresh water, no food and be cramped in a cage. The parents might not have been groomed or walked since they got their championship. Why? Because their purpose is complete. Treat nice until they can make them loads of cash. They're no champs.. Being fed leftovers, not walked, and taking care of pups in a small cage. People don't expect it because they 'groom' the dog prior to visiting, and let the puppies loose to make them look good. What is a puppy mill? How can you tell? You honestly cant.. Someone who breeds more than 2 breeds is a puppy mill. Someone who has 20+ dogs with 5+ litters a month is a puppy mill - because they can NOT take care of that many dogs NOR puppies! Anyone care to add to this? That clear it up any?

7 weeks? The breeder must be NUTS! The others are absolutely right about the testicles. No puppy should be in surgery until it's older. I say 4-6 months would be a good time to get him neutered. Ask your breeder for a contract and say you'll do it yourself at the RIGHT age. And tell her that neutering a dog that young can be harmful. Also, nothing can garuntee anything. If that makes sense.. I had a dog neutered when he was young, and he's still 'active' even though he's 10+ years old! Why don't you want him to cock his leg for? That's completely natural for a male dog and you shouldn't have to want to change it.

Anyone want to start our own "dog review"?
Aonir replied to sushiwelldone's topic in Everything about dogs
That's an excellent idea! I can even add the information to my site once I get the time! :D Just remember, good things for some people can be bad things for other people.. such as energy level. American Eskimo - 4 month puppy Very playful indoors, loves walks, loves playing fetch, great with other pets. Doesn't chew on furniture, etc.(but has plenty of chew toys), loves people(un-sure about children) Very vocal, can't stand excessive amount of heat, not good as an outdoor dog, sheds twice a year GOOD/BAD: fluffy coat, lots of energy, active indoors(good apartment dog when have lots of toys) I'll add more when i get the time *is at school* Can't think straight.. -
Congrats on the pups!! Sorry about #2 :( Have any pics for us??

A leg is a small price to pay for her life! Be glad she's still with you, although minus a leg.. Least it didn't cost an arm and a leg ;)
