1. I have something similar posted on the inside of my backyard fence, it says "Caution, Area patrolled by Maltese" Bought it as a joke. But he is a great little buglar alarm? Anyone dare come and knock on his door and he sounds the alarm!
2.

Wasn't it a Pap that won the Westminster 2-3 years ago? I remember how pretty that little guy was and seeing him so proud of himself sitting inside the trophy.
Whats the Westminter? I don't know but whatever it is I'm sure that boy looked very cute and very proud indeed!!! (I can picture it now, a cute little Pap next to a trophy!)
He was "in" the trophy and it was soooo... cute! It's a very prestigious dog show here in the US.
3.
Rowie, it was the ears which innitially drew me to the breed all those years ago!!! I think the Papillon disease is catching, soon every body will want one as much as I do!!! :o
Wasn't it a Pap that won the Westminster 2-3 years ago? 4. They are cute! Makes me want one too!
5. your right about their hair not getting matted. The one my son and daughter-in-law had never matted. He was a sweetie. Aroura, I just typed in Papillion Rescue and saw some of the prettiest little Paps, Of course they are here in the US but you should take a peek.
6. Sorry to hear about your grandparents little pom. Only fellow dog lovers know and appreciate the grief in losing a beloved companion. My thoughts are with them.
7. I love both the Brussel Griffons and Affenpinschers, they are sooo cute!
8. I have had a Golden Retriever, German Shepherds, Cocker Spaniel,Sheltie and a Maltese and mutts. My favorite dogs were my German Shepherds (Tish and Dixie) my Sheltie(Lucky) and now my little maltese. German Shepherds and Shelties are the best but now that I'm older I need a dog easier for me to handle. A dog I would love to own is a Yorkie.............so many breeds, so little time.
9. Jerk! Try to keep your dogs away from him. No telling what he might do next. We know 2 things about him#1 he doesn't mind inflicting harm on animals #2 he lies so stay clear. As hard as it is for me to fathom, there are people out there whom hate or dislike dogs and will do them harm. Not everyone is a dog person. (Thats why I hang out here with you guys. It's funny how dog people find each other, I work on a campus with about 100 on staff and there are 5 of us whom are dog crazy.) We came in contact with a jerk out in the country at our lake cabin. My oldest son took his yellow lab, a beautiful hunting dog to our cabin and a teenaged boy tried to run him down with a four wheeler. It still upsets me and ticks me off. My "grand dog" is unharmed and we had to jump the kids arse with the kids parents looking on from down the road.
10. I would stick with Frontline Plus, my 7 lb. maltese had problems with Advantage, skin was cherry red and itching all over. I have heard of other little ones having problems. On the front of the Frontline Plus package the weight range is a few pounds over what I need but the vets nurse told me that it's really for dogs under 25 pounds. Said that the manufactor ( I think it's Meric or something like that) has sent out letters to the vets with this info and when the new packaging comes out it will indeed reflect that info. Anyway she offered to let me read the letters , I declined but when you take the actual vial out it does say 25-0 pounds. I called the manufactors 1-800 number to verify and it's true, it can be used on these little pupsters. If in doubt and to be on the safe side call them. When I used the Advantage I halved the dose and still had problems.
11. I love it! Get the collar and lead, it just wouldn't do for Macy not to match. I spend way to much on Bentley too, but he's my baby and I work so......spend I must! :D
12. Bentley was Frankendog last Halloween, I have several hats for all the holidays, antlers, santa hat, Harley Davidson and so on. Poor doggie, all that I put him thru........, I think it's fun!
13. I noticed over on an www.ivillage.com message board there is a small companion dog forum with several Papillon owners. Check them out and maybe you can get more first hand info.
14.
You have an adorable dog. We love the Maltese breed. Does your dog spit up after he eats the paper? Ours does all the time. Don't know what to do.
Thanks, I think he's a beauty. You can see a photo at www.k9photos.com just go to the select a breed and click on maltese. Shih Tzu's are adorable too! He doesn't spit up from it but I pretty well catch him before he eats too much. He can completely unroll an entire roll of toilet tissue and shred it to bits and also drag it around the entire house, looks like a paper shredder exploded! He loves the game of chase when I try to get it from him and will even hide toilet tissue to play with at a later date. Also keep the box of kleenex hidden. I always worry that he will get intestinal blockage or something when he eats it.
15. He didn't have any health issues while they had him other than he was allergic to bee stings. He was very loving, not yappy really was one of the sweetest dogs I have ever known. He would have made an excellent therapy dog. Guess they had him about 4 years and my son was sent to another state for about 4 months for some training and his wife went with him so they had to leave both their Pap and their boxer with her mom with plans on picking them up after this time frame so they could take them to where they were to be stationed next. Anyway sadly to say my daughter-in-laws mom got "rid" of them. Both were very upset with her over that one and I don't blame them, it upset me. I still think about that little Papillon all the time and wish I had him. I have seen quite a few at dog shows and according to some information I have I could come up with some breeders names.
16. My Maltese does they same thing, he really like to unroll toilet tissue to eat and play with. I had a german shep. about 30 years ago that would do the same thing.
17. My son and daughter-in-law had one. He had a very sweet gentle nature, was easy to train but he shed soooooooo... much. Hair everywhere! He was from a backyard breeder so I don't really know if the shedding was poor breeding. Everthing I have read on them doesn't mention that they shed this much. Guess the reason the amount of shedding sticks in my mind so much on this little guy was because my son is in the Army and they had a heck of a time keeping the hair off of his uniforms.
18. Ask the vet. I took mine in and had him boarded for a few days while we went on vacation. I asked them to keep him under observation for this and he never did it while there. Blood work was done and showed no problems. Do ask your vet about it but they still may not find a reason. I had many dogs and this is the first time I have had one do this, I have wondered if it was maybe food particals around his mouth, hair in his mouth or maybe OCD. But hey, I had 3 kids and one sucked his thumb so maybe it's a comfort thing.
19. I had a friend that trained her collies this way. She used the little jingle bells you see around Christmas time and hung them from the door knob on a string. I have seen a variety of jingle bell sizes in the stores, don't know if the small ones would work, guess you could group them and hang several together.
20. It could be OCD (obsessive compulsive dissorder) Mine is an air licker, not all the time. He does it a few minutes each day. Weird
21. Maltese, add some variety and put a toy breed in the mix. :) also Shetland Sheepdog (wonderful breed) and Newfoundlands (beautiful), Cocker spaniels, German Shep, Greyhounds, Goldens, Boxer, Belgium Malonois(sp?)......and a good old all American Mutt.
22. I have a very picky eater. I have been feeding my Maltese Nutro and have started switching him over to Natural Balance. He loved the Natural Balance (at first) when I opened the bag he got very excited and stuck his head inside and gobbled it up. I started mixing the Natural Balance with the Nutro to phase him out of eating Nutro. Now he eats only the Nutro kibbles and leaves the Natural Balance kibble in the bowl. He LOVES the Natural Balance roll but I don't want to feed him the roll exclusively. I have found another brand that supposedly appeals to finicky small breed dogs, they also have food for larger breeds. Has anyone tried a brand called Royal Canin ? The formula I want to try is Royal Canin Mini. Some of you know so much about food and nutrition that I figured you could advise me.
23. I noticed that when I'm walking Bentley and I'm ready to turn around and head home I'll say "Lets go back" and he will turn and start home. He hates it when I leave and I have had to come up with different terms to keep him from getting too excited( he always wants to go) so I say things like "I'm leaving" "I'm going" and then I have had to get creative & say " I will be exiting soon" anyway he has learned them all and I now have started spelling things like I'm G O I N G or L E A V I N G etc. & I swear he is learning to spell , his ears perk up and that little head tilts and he really listens and starts getting excited. He is just too cute !
24. I have a maltese too and wouldn't you know it , I let my subscription lapse. Looks like I need to pick up a copy from Petsmart.
25. :) Hope I don't offend anyone but this type of leash has been a pet peeve of mine. I know there are people out there that are responsible and control their pets but I personally have never seen a dog on one that was in control. I feel that they are unsafe for the pet and people. I have seen dogs dart out into streets while on them and I have seen aggresive dogs lunge at people walking by. I just prefer having a good lead that keeps them at my side.
