Luka-pop, I think that everybody here on this forum would answer YES to all of your questions... But that wouldn't be of much help to your paper. What your teacher said wouldn't work for me either, just because unless you're a dog psychologist, you can't know how being in a pet store affects the dogs psychologically. So, what I can see as a good paper topic is discussing the how likely it is that animals bought at the pet store will be abandoned by thier irresposnsible owners. And maybe there are people here who rescued animals that came from the pet store (I haven't, but maybe somebody did) and they can tell you about the health and behaviour problems these dogs had... Buying a dog from the pet store isn't a good option, because: --the dog probably comes from a puppymill (the parents haven't been checked for any genetically transmitted disease, and are bred with no concern for the dogs' behaviour) --the puppies in pet stores are separated from their litter mates and mother too early and miss out on socialization. Hence, later bahaviour problems... (dog-aggression, people-aggression, fear of cars, noises) --puppies stay in a very small glass box 24 hours a day with no excercise. They're kept in there sometimes until the age of 5 months (although this is a time when they need to investigate things, bond with their human family, and exercise A LOT). --I've read stories about pet stores selling pups as pure bred, when they're actually mixes (but you'd need to research this if you're to use it) One last piece of advice (maybe obvious, but...) from somebody who's written and maked a lot of papers :) --even though people on the forum might be very helpful, don't use us as your only source. I was brushing today--while walking in the livingroom so that I can hear what my husband was telling me :) --and I notice that little Hippo is following me around wagging her tail frantically and staring at my toothbrush. Well, a few weeks ago I started to brush her teeth--she has her own toothbrush and toothpaste for dogs (that tastes like chicken)--and she loooves it :lol: So today the little baby thought that since we're getting ready to go out into the world, we should all be brushed. Do I have a cleang doggie or what?

Mine has only had plain fatfree yoghurt (the kind I eat) and she loves it--it may even be her favourite treat, hard to tell though :lol:

This is cool, never thought about it before :D Hippo would be a petite girl who knows she's the cutest, and expects to be admired by everybody. She wouldn't have any close friends, just admirerers (both guys and girls). She'd talk to evrybody and seem really friendly untill somebody crossed her, at which point she'd just become a devil and make sure she gets back at that person. She'd definitely do really well in school--learn eveything right away, but wouldn't put any effort into using what she's learned for anything good. She'd hate all shool activities--choir, band, and sports (pretty much like me!)--but she'd go join a wrestling team somewhere on her own (and not tell any of her admirerers about it). And I'm sure that if she were a human, she'd a have a Shar-pei who she'd love sooooo much....

First of all, my grumble about kids... I live next to a park where there's an area to leave your dogs unleashed, and they get to meet there and play and run. Well, every warm weekend you get the irresponsible parents who bring along small children (starting from 2 year olds) and let then roam around freely... Some of them don'y even have dogs, they're just there to see the dogs. But it's just plain STUPID when you have so many dogs running around in what is their only place to play, to have these squeaky kids trying to pet the dogs, following them around... Ijust wished dogs were allowed their time out to play. And I must admit: I have this little monster who's fascinated by kids and wants to jump on anything that squeaks, squeals or cries (I'm trying to teach her not to do that, but I end up getting more anoyed with those kids' parents than with her, because, after all, it's HER playplace!) And the second thing: there are so many people who have preconceived idaes about certain breeds... You know, people who think pittbuls"turn on their owners," "rotweillers and dobermans are vicious," bla, bla, bla... Well, Shar-pei have been used for dog fighting in China about 50 years ago (although they have been used as good-for-all farm dogs long before that, and are now bred for companions). Now I have a 30 lb/16inch mini Shar-pei, who's been out to the dog park every day since she was 3 and a half months--she loves all dogs and people... from all the dogs she's played with she's never hurt anyone, never made anyone yelp. I'm saying all this so that you can understand that she isn't at all dog-aggressive, on the contrary. But somewhow I still get the STUPID KNOW-IT-ALL people telling me how I should be careful with her, that she's a fighting dog!!!! And here I have today this lady with a German shepard, who supposedly telling her dog: "Be careful with that puppy--they're fighting dogs, it's their instinct to fight, you might get hurt!" For God's sake, my pup is 30 pounds, hers was a fully grown German shepard, how exactly was he gonna get hurt by my Hippo sniffing at his face????? :evil:

Gee, I wish I found this post before spending the 90$ on Revolution :x Now, what should I use for heartworm prevention? I went again through all the posts on the topic and it seems some people are happy with Heartguard, but others aren't. I haven't seen anything bad on Interceptor--is this the way to go then? Also, I don't think my vet has Interceptor (he only told me about Heartguard and Revolution)... can I get it anywhere else--like from another vet's office (although my Pei was tested for heartworm by this other vet)?

I've been reading everybody's posts about the heartworm preventive--sorry to hear about your losses... I wanted to ask: does anyone use Revolution (selamectin topical solution)? It's a fairly new product that was recommended by my vet--it's supposed to be good for heartworm, fleas and ticks... It's applied on the skin (between the shoulder blades) once a month. On the prospect it says that they have tested it and that from 100 pure bred dogs, none had any side effects... But you can never know, I guess. I haven't started giving it to my Shar-pei because it's not mosquito season yet, but I wanted to know if anyone knows anything about this drug, anyone had any bad experiences?
