1. You are spot on BK. Nobody cares about the old, especially in this country. The hospital care is atrocious I think they just want them to roll over and die. In a lot of countries the elderly are treated with respect and revered, here they just get dumped. The thing is we have all got it coming. So sorry to hear about your nana but at least you care, that's the point. It's difficult when they have dementia, I don't know what I would do, a few people I know feel guilty because they have put their parents in homes. They all had dementia and were roaming the streets in the middle of the night, so in that situation there was no choice. Luckily my mum is 100% in her mind and while she is like that there is no way I would put her in a home (it would kill her). It has been mentioned by other members of the family but that's because they don't want to be bothered. Love and best wishes to your nana and just keep on loving her no matter what! IN THE END THAT'S WHAT COUNTS :buzi: :buzi: :buzi: :buzi:
2. Yeah, mostly uppers.
3. K, we were on a long time last night, I think there was only myself, Ellieangel and Jen so we had a good chat. It's not our fault you can't keep your eyes open :o :o :o :o :o :o Anyway Jen's husband has drove to Portsmouth at 2.00am this morning to collect their new doggie Cleo. It's a long drive so we won't know anything until tonight. You'll have to stay awake 24/7 if you don't want to miss anything zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
4. Not when you can't get in your own bed, I've come back on the computer hoping they'll get off. As you can gather they are still snoozing. What a life!!!!
5. Well, I've been up since 7.00am and only got to bed at 2.00am so I thought why not have an afternoon nap. My computer is in the smallest bedroom so not far to go. I'm soooooooooooo tired. But look who beat me to it: http://groups.msn.com/Dogomania Afternoon Nap. Oh well, there's always the back bedroom I suppose!!!
6. ellieangel, if you told my mum you thought I was an angel she'd laugh her head off. She sometimes drives me mad and vice versa. Everthing I've said about not wanting her to die etc is true, but it isn't all sweetness and light, she can be very selfish sometimes, and she takes me for granted all of the time. I very often tell her I've got MUG tattooed across my forehead. I'd still do anything for her, even though we have our arguments :agrue: we always make up. :D At least you are close to your sisters', I am only close to one of mine, the others can go and take a running jump!!!!
7. Ellieangel. we deserted Jen in her hour of need, we are bad girls. :( :( :( :( :( :( Never mind, we'll make it up to her later. :D :D :D :D :D :D
8. Sorry Jen, went to bed about 2.00am, it's now 7.20am and I am up because Rosie lagged behind on her walk this morning. That meant she stood on the street barking her bloody head of which woke me up. I shouted at Brian for not waiting for her, we live opposite a large Heath which she knows like the back of her hand (sorry, paw) so it's not as if she couldn't find them, she just couldn't be bothered (Little Darling ????). You sound like you have got your hands full with all your doggies and another on the way. I hope they have a safe journey. Is there a story behind you getting Cleo at 9 months old. Where and who has she been with till now? I hope you will keep us up to date on what is happening with her as she settles in your home, by the sound of it she's got some really good company, and let us know how your other dogs react to her. By the way I come from Warrington in Cheshire. I now live in Ashton-in-Makerfield, just behind Haydock Park Racecourse. And NO I have never been to a race meeting (everyone asks). Speak to you later, I might go back to bed for an hour now Rosie is curled up in her basket. Good Luck: :BIG: :multi: :BIG: :multi:
9. Jen, just had a look at Cleo's pics SHE'S BEAUTIFUL :smilecolros: No wonder you can't wait to pick her up. We had a long drive for Ruby and she threw up all over me the whole way home. Thankfully she's now outgrown it. For the link: just type http://groups.msn.com/Dogomania in your post and wallah. It's a good job you like staying up all night, because you might have no choice tomorrow with her being in a new place. Hurry and get your camera then we can see more pics. :scared:
10. Ellieangel, it must be us English. I've been talking to Jen all night, I thought there was only us two around, glad to see your's still with us, after all it's only 12.40am. Mind you with the time differences a lot of people will be getting up for work soon.
11. Irish Setter (Ruby) English Setter (Rosie) Mums dog, cross chihuahua (Cleo)  Whilst my mum has been ill she has been here with her. When I go my mums, I feed her etc. When I walk into the bungalow she goes absolutely berserk, yapping and running round. The reason being, I'm the only one to think of taking her for a walk, even though she's old I love seeing her run across the field to catch me up. My mum says she thinks Cleo would sooner be with me because she hasn't been able to give her much attention, but she is totally devoted to her and follows her everywhere. See pictures at: http://groups.msn.com/Dogomania Ruby and Rosie What are yours called, any pics?
12. Thank goodness NO! I don't know if I would of coped, what with mother, partner, two dogs and my mum's dog. :2gunfire:
13. Tired all day  Awake all night :B-fly:
14. I'll keep you company Jen. Join the club, I'm on here last thing at night then when I get up in the morning (or should I say afternoon). Always been a night owl, can sleep at the drop of a hat during the day.
15. Thanks Jen. Yeah she is a lot of fun, she can be a pain as well but can't we all. :( :( :( :( :( :(
16. My mum has hardly been out of hospital these past 2 years, several different things, mostly breathing difficulties, blood clots and now she has heart failure and ulcerated legs. Things have been really bad and I had her here with me for a while. When she went home I arranged for a carer to go in in the mornings, it gave me peace of mind. I live in another town about 12 miles away. There are eight of us siblings but you wouldn't think so with the amount of time they put in (Zilch). Only myself and my sister (mostly myself) seem to care even though the others live closer, it's funny because we are the two youngest, it's the older ones that don't seem to be bothered. At the moment, having lost a lot of weight she is the best she's been for a long time and has been able to cancel the carers. I even picked her up Mon, Wed, Fri last week and took her out and about which she hadn't been able to do for a while. So I don't agree about not wanting to be a burden on anyone, I would never consider my mother a burden even though I lost nearly 3 stone with the stress of it all, I would gladly do it all again. As far as I'm concerned she looked after us when my father died (I was only 8 years old) and was left to fend for eight children at 42 years of age (she's 84 now). She worked bloody hard and deserves all the help I can give her now. My mum's mind is as sharp as a pin, I never think of her as being old and I've always took her everywhere with me. We took her Tenerife last year and hired a mobility scooter for her (she has one at home) but every night she was too drunk to drive it back to the hotel, we had to put her in a taxi and my fella had to take the scooter back. She was out till 4.00 am every morning. Yeah, but she wouldn't get up for her breakfast. To answer the original question, no I wouldn't want to live forever, nor would my mum. But then again there's no way I want her to die even if it meant looking after her 24/7, as long as she has got the will to live I have got the strength to look after her with no conditions attached. Sorry to have gone on but it's been quite an emotional time.

Dog poem

By the way, my customers dog is called SUE please say a prayer for her even though she always tries to bite me (she doesn't want to really). She didn't today though she just gave me a good sniff and I actually got to stroke her. Probably the last time I see her.

Dog poem

Had a good cry when I read this this morning, just what I needed before I went out to work. Then to find that one of my customers dogs is dying, so of I went again. Teary day today.
19. GOOD LUCK :multi:
20. So sad :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(
21. Same here, when I ask Rosie to sit for a treat her back legs start to spread outwards, it is so funny. When she lies on the floor it's hysterical watching her trying to get up. Ruby doesn't have a problem, I don't know why. :D :D :D :D
22. Us too behle. although my partner has children we never had any together so Ruby and Rosie are our babies. You should see and hear the commotion when his van passes the house and I shout "here's your dad". They go absolutely beserk, Rosie runs round the house looking for something to greet him with (shoe, sock, anything will do), Ruby just yaps till she's blue in the face (can dogs get blue in the face?) then goes on the hunt for her ball. He comes in and spends the next ten minutes covered in dogs then turns round and asks me "whats for tea", typical. We are their Mum and Dad and my mum is their Nanna, my sisters are their aunts etc etc. The same goes for my mum's dog (must post some pictures, she's adorable). My brother thinks I have lost the plot because when I leave my mums I always fuss the dog and say "bye sweetheart, you're a beautiful girl". We defintely love being a doggy mum and dad.
23. They're brilliant, needed a good laugh.
24. Snap, so did I. :x

Feeding

I have a friend who's just come back from working in Hong Kong for 5 years. He new our old dog Jasmine (English Setter) who sadly died aged 13 four years ago (still cry). He has just met Ruby and Rosie for the first time, I home cook all my dogs food and he's aghast. He says if he ever has them to stay they will have to eat tinned dog food. Thankfully this will never be the case as we have only had one holiday abroad in the four years we've had them. We have had four beautiful cottage holidays with them, mostly in the Highlands of Scotland. Cottage on Loch Ness (no didn't spot Nessie, although Ruby was in there looking often enough). Gone of the point rambling again. I'd be interested to know what everyone feeds their dogs, everybody is different, and if anyone has any new recipes that would be a bonus.
