:o :o :o Wow. I really wanted one of those a couple of years back. Boy, I'm glad I held back for a DOG. At least Floppy & Cosmic never aim their pee at me. Not intentionally anyway.

Tick-o-Mania! Heat, and my grandfather...
Bubblezzz replied to Rowie-the-Pooh's topic in Everything about dogs
Whoa, good luck Rowie-the-pooch. :o I use Frontline for my babies and it's pretty good. Don't be too hard on yourself, your baby sounds so loved! :iloveyou: Off topic here, but I when I was away studying, I had a b**tard of a landlord who had a (should have been) beautiful mutt. The ONLY care he took of it was to plonk down a plate of kibble when he got home (sometimes very late) at night. The dog was allowed to roam the streets (urban neighbourhood) and was hosed dowm with water (what he considered bathing) only twice the one year I was there.    Poor Patches lived with ticks on him I assume, his whole life. They were the mega huge kind, like grapes, and sometimes lined up on his ears like they were apartment dwellers. The one time I got the courage to speak up (landlord although initially nice, turned out to be a monster), I got a huge 'mind your own business' snap. :( We never saw the condition of the dog until after we paid our deposit, or we would NEVER have rented from that b**tard. Looking back, I was an idiot not to have reported him. :( Patches always came home though and was still happy to greet her owner. :( :( :( -
Hi Aurora, I'm hoping on your babies behalf (esp Lily!!) that their playdates come through!! (fingers crossed) Just remember, long distance relationships CAN work!!! :fadein:

abker17 - :o she pooped right there in front of you? nea, Bir comes on command? That's such a good boy!!!! Cosmic DOESN'T come, we been working on this for a while now, but it's still not 100%. He comes whenever there's food/treats though. :-? He doesn't really steal many things, although he'd raid the trash for food if he thinks no one is watching! What I do with MY favourite stuffed toys is show them to him and when he tries to take it, say 'NO, MINE' and growl at him some. :D Then I give him HIS toy and say 'YOURS, good boy'! :D Heehee...it works too!! After a few times, he knows not to take what isn't approved! :) I'm happy to say he hasn't ever gotton into fights - he's been growled at quite a lot by his 'friends' because they don't like the way he plays. He's very rough and would plonk his fat paws on them repeatedly, even though they've already warned him!!! He also picks the smaller dogs at the dog run and tries to hump them... sometimes in the head...

Thanks! This is the first poem I wrote for Cosmic. Yeah, puppies grow up TOO fast!! :P We were at the dog run yesterday and he had the most fun with 2 newfound girlfriends, a bull terrier and a bulldog - I'm REALLY REALLY REALLY tempted to adopt an older playmate (and another baby for me!!) !!!!! :o :o :o :o :o :o

Thank you all!!! Yes, I wrote it for Cosmic. :) In Singapore where I am, there has been sad news about some people giving up their dogs/cats because they fear that their dogs/cats might pick up the SARS virus and spread to to their family members. Total paranoia and completely UNFOUNDED of course. It made me feel so sad. :( Ironically, that's why I started writing my poem!! :P I'm glad you like it!!

Cosmic LOVES all kinds of toys - esp. those that make noise!! The very first day we brought him home, we gave him a soft blue elephant (named Snuffy) Snuffy has beans in his feet and is practically indestructable!! They are still best friends. :P (Cosmic doesn't know that this is Snuffy no. 2 (we bought back-ups becos he liked Snuffy SO much!) Snuffy 1 had to be 'buried', he was SO filthy... ) He also loves squeaky toys (one of his favs. is a 6-pronged soft toy with squeakers in each prong) and has tons. :D It's so adorale how he'd 'find' the squeaker that makes the loudest noise before settling down to squeak away! :) He also likes toys that make squiggly, giggly noises and toys with 'hair'. (Snakey - his snake toy, has a tuft of hair sticking out that Cosmic LOVES chewing - it's absolutely disgusting. ) He used to like this horse that could neigh and would bite it all over until he found the plastic 'neighing' part. He also loves rubbishy bits of plastic, paper and fluff he finds. Heehee... Bir must look sooo cute doing the "Look! I'm a good boy - now feed me!" thing all by himself! How did you get him out of the fight with the rottie, or were they both (thankfully!) on leash? Cosmic would pretend to be fierce to bigger dogs (barky) from a distance but up front, he retreats!! :P I am ashamed to say we have quite a cowardly dog... :-? He loves to dominate the ones smaller than him... heheheh... does that make him smart?? I know all about the doe-eyes too - just not fair!!! :P

A poem for my baby: :) To Cosmic I loved your fat, round puppy muzzle Your cute black button nose Those stumpy puppy legs And those clumsy puppy toes The way you look so miserable In those photos we took that day Guess you didn

I feed my dogs yoghurt too, but I buy the flavoured ones. I'm currently giving about 2 tablespoons a day - is this too much sugar??? About the feeding of human food - Floppy (AM cocker) used to have terrible dry skin seborreah (sp??) and the vet said (amongst other things) that it could be due to the table scraps she used to have. Now we feed fresh food, but don't use much additives like salt, sugar or sauces at all. Her skin is a whole lot better :D now, although we cut it all short because of the heat!!
My rootie is the biggest mooch ever, he will do a bunch of cammands at random to try and get a bite. he will sit, down, shake hands, roll oer and play dead and all you have to do is look at him with food in your hand. no words required!!
Too cute!!! :P

AWWWWWW!!!! They're PERFECT!!!!!! I LLLOOOVVVEEE the 3rd picture!!!! How cute is that one!!!???

Hi nea! How is bir working out? I haven't had a chance to log on because my bf's grandma passed on and things were busy for a while. Cosmic goes nuts after his bath too, but differently. He tears around with his toys like a loony and we usually just let him get it out of his system. Good luck with your bath problem! :)

Congrats! :) For those of you who have danes, what are they like? I see them in the dog runs and they'rs gorgeous!! They look kinda clumsy and playful, very sweet. :D

your coal is AWFULLY sweet!!!!!! :D

Hi Nea, I bet you're having lots of fun with Bir!! :) Post pictures as soon as you can! :D I haven't been able to fix up my home pc completely, so I can't scan Cosmic & Floppy's pictures to post... :( Dominance growling isn't good, I would try getting him to give up his toy/place in bed using treats (Don't forget to command at the same time - like "Off!"). Cosmic has a problem with giving up his toys too, but this is what I do to get him to "GIVE" : Hold his toy gently in one hand commanding "GIVE" in a soft tone. (I usually try to get his attention with "soft" eye contact first) If he refuses to let go, I offer him a whiff of the treat I am holding in my other hand. Say "GIVE" again. He usually drops it by this time. :) Praise him to the skies, saying "Good give!! Good boy!" then I treat. Usually I return the toy or exchange it for another. (So he'll learn that giving me his toys means he gets a treat for 'lending' it to me for a while.) One book I would recommend is "Bones would rain from the Sky" by Suzanne Clothier. She writes about her experiences with her animals - mostly dogs but also pigs, horses and even a turtle! The book reads more like a story, with different dogs featured to illustrate different points she raises. Get tissues though, I really felt for some of those dogs. :P I started reading her book during the first week we got Cosmic and because of it, I made significant changes to my approach while training him AND we're all the happier for it! :D I think of all the training/dog behaviour books I have, Bones would rain from the sky is really THE ONE! Cosmic is my first dog too (not counting dogs "shared" with my bf) so I totally understand all excitement/worry that you're feeling. :) Yeah, giving him a window of maybe a week to get used to you and his new home is a good idea. He may just be worried about all the changes. Oh, I think Cockers are naturally a little 'hyper'. :) YES!!! Neutering is a GOOD thing to do!! Cosmic will be going for his when he is 6 months old. It's supposed to make male dogs less agressive and more affectionate, less prone to wander and less suspectable to females in heat!! :P Ok, I HAVE to get back to work, dogo is SO addictive!! :P I wish I could meet Bir and you and just get together to discuss how brilliant cockers are... :P :P :P :P

Cassie and crested, I'm glad you like my post. ;) There can never be too many reasons, so keep em' coming!!! :P
He picks up things around the house without me asking him! If i drop something he will get it for me. If i want the remote, he gets it for me. If i say "my feet are cold", he gets my slippers He never lies to me, not ever! He tells on the cat if she is into something. He keeps boogie men away at nite!
I'll exchange my bf for a dog like that!! :P Nah, no really, but it's SO TEMPTING!!! Beautiful Border Collie, does your dog understand multiple commands when you use sentences? ("my feet are cold") I understand from books and most people that we're supposed to keep our commands short (2-syllable usually) so it's easier for them. Tell us how he "tells on the cat"!!! :P
-
Hi Nea!! :D :D :D He looks ready for major pampering and play!!! :) His coat is a lot more profuse now - Birk (he is going to remain Birk right?) looks really sweet. :D :D The eyebrows twitching is so cute - Cosmic does this cocking his ears while tilting his head from side to side thing (especially when he hears whistling) that is hilarious. :P They'll CUTE you to death if you let them! I can just imagine a whole group of cockers (and other doggies!) twitching at weird places and dancing... :multi: :multi: :multi: :multi: :multi: Once we perfect "NOSE" (put paw on nose) :D we're so going to teach ours to dance too! Congrats again - keep us updated when you finally lay your hands on YOUR DOG!!! :D
-
Yep, :D Same here. :P When Cosmic is quiet for too long... something's TERRIBLY wrong!!! But Floppy is a GOOD GOOD girl though! :)
My border collie grabs a mouthful of kibble and lays down in the living room drops them all in front of him, and proceeds to eat them, one at a time. WHATS WITH THAT????
   Beautiful Border Collie, maybe he does that to frustrate your poodle??? :) That's so strange and cute though!! :P

Haha! :D Aren't they the cutest?!!

What is it about dogs that make them so special to you guys? For me, it all became really clear when my mum said that she would much rather have a human baby in the house (I am always calling Cosmic my baby) because they grow up, learn stuff and become smart enough to fend for themselves. But I LOVE that dogs NEVER grow up. They are always such clowns, always like babies - all of them, even the ones so old that their muzzles are white, they can't walk right and they keep bumping into stuff. But they still greet the people they love with huge grins and wriggly, waggy tails and they are NEVER like us humans, who grow old and (sometimes) become mean and grouchy. I've been thinking a lot about the seinfeld jokes that crested posted:
A dog will stay stupid. That's why we love them so much. The entire time we know them, they're idiots. Think of your dog. Everytime you come home , he thinks it's amazing. He has no idea how you accomplish this every day. You walk in the door, the joy of this experience overwhelms him. He looks at you, HE'S BACK, IT'S THAT GUY, THAT SAME GUY. He can't believe it. Everything is amazing to your dog. ANOTHER CAN OF FOOD? I DON'T BELIEVE IT. Dogs want to be people. That's what their lives are about. They don't like being a dog. They're with people all the time, they want to graduate. My dog would sit there all day, he would watch me walk by, he would think to himself, I COULD DO THAT! HE'S NOT THAT GOOD. That's why the greatest, most exciting moment in the life of a dog is the front seat of your car. You and him in the front seat. It's the only place where your head and his are on the exact same level. He sits up there, he thinks, THIS IS MORE LIKE IT. YOU AND ME TOGETHER, THIS IS THE WAY IT SHOULD BE. He looks out the front. What's he looking at? He's a dog. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE - A RIGHT OR A LEFT? I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE I AM. They have a hard time. They stand up, they sit down, they can't handle the turn either way. No matter which way you turn, he's not ready. They don't know what to do. And then comes the great moment of frustration. You stop someplace and get something to eat. This kills him. You get a hamburger, this blows his mind. INSTANT FOOD WHENEVER YOU WANT IT? You know what this means to him? You ever see the look on his face? He looks over at you. HOW'D YOU GET THAT? ARE THEY GIVING IT TO EVERYBODY NOW? YOU THINK I COULD GET ONE? They can't get anything. Dogs have no money. Isn't that amazing? They're broke their entire lives. But they get through. You know why dogs have no money? No pockets.
That's all so funny and true!!! :D :D :D How is it they manage to sidestep all that nasty stuff about life and stay the way they are???? :silly: :silly: It's mind boggling!! :o I LOVE how different they are from humans and all that other stuff, the slobbering, butt licking, furry faces, huge sloppy grins etc. etc. etc. just makes them even sillier and cuter!!! :) :) :) And it's hard for me to understand why my mum can't see that. Most of all, it's unbelivable that 2 such perfect creatures could love ME. I'm glad they're not human babies, that they won't grow up and learn all the bad stuff about this world. This way, they'll always be MINE!!! :evilbat:

When I was in my early teens, I had 2 bunnies I shared with my brother. We didn't take good care of them and one died.  We decided to set the other bunny "free" in the park. Of course, now I know that we probably killed it too. My dogs make me more aware of ALL living creatures (I didn't even think about my ex-bunnies until Nicky, my bf's old dog (before Floppy) was dying) - the love I feel for them seems to have expanded the space in my heart. :iloveyou: They squeeze their way in insistantly, howl, whine and act so cute until I open all my doors (even the bedroom ones, which I never meant to! :P) and wriggle and squirm until I realise, what the hell, there's no need for doors, there's space aplenty. :Dog_run: :D :D :D :D :D So now, I'm like a wide open field and my dogs have the run of the place. :P Then the birds come and the bees and my bunnies have forgiven me and they're here too and it's warm and breezy and the flowers grow and my friends come picnic and I feel like I'm a better person. So YES they make my heart smile and sing and dance. :D :P :P :P Heehee, I'm in a sappy mood!!!
