one of my dogs called Joe who is a ten yr old yorkshire terrier, this last few months has suddenly started to jump up and run around howling everynight any time from midnight until five minutes past midnight, then stops and goes back to sleep :o I can`t figure out why!!! none of the other dogs are doing it, there are no dogs in the nieghbourhood doing it, thee are no clocks striking. :-? does anyone else`s dog do this or does anyone have any thoughts of why Joe is doing this....he really freaks me out, especially if i`m sitting up watching t.v by myself or on the computer and everyone else is in bed :o

oh Coutnek i`m soooooo very sorry to hear this news, it`s took you so long to find another dog that Freebee will get along with. I too think the shelter is being very un-realistic about the work situation especially in this day and age. Perhaps it`s worth trying t bend the rules a little by saying you`ll take him to work with you! Or try searching in the classified adds like was suggested to eliminate the shelter being involved. Please let us know how you get on, i willbe thinking of you.

thanks guys i will try harder to put her in her place, i am already doing some of the things mentioned and havebeen since i first got her (which was about 4 weeks ago), i and the other dogs eat before she does, she doesn`t sleep on the bed but does sleep in one of my arm cahirs and the sofa, sometimes she goes through doors before me. i`m now wondering if all the trouble i`m having between her and my other dogs (as mentioned on my post "HELP") is to do with this as i`m trying my hardest here but the situation between them is no better :( and i`m worried that if it continues it will change her and make her become aggressive. I`ve noticed she`s also challenging me a bit, as usually at training class she`s a star but last time she was a nightmare and at home when i ask her to do a simple commnd like sit she wont , whereas she used to do it when asked first time!!! also she`s starting to play me up on the lead even tough i`m constantly correcting her, and she play`s me up while i`m trying to put it on her :o

thanks for that :D at least we know now we`re not the only ones who have female dogs doing this embarassing thing
-
thanks everyone :D if it is a dominance thing, what should i be doing to show her that we, the humans are way above her in the pack? By the way i was told that it was best to spay her 3 months after her second season to prevent any physcological problems :-?

i just came on dogo to post the same thing!!!.....wierd coincidence or what!!!! My 10 month old rottie female has been in season once and isn`t due again until end of August (then in NOVEMBER I`M HAVING HER SPAYED), But this last few days she keeps doing "the dirty" to me  and to my hubby and our friends :o  WHY? :-? i`m sorry i can`t help you as i`ve got the same problem too, and i don`t know why either :-? I had one of my male dogs do this before he was "done", but i`ve not seen a female do it  I thought she may try and do "the dirty" to my other dogs, but she hasn`t, she`s only interested in doing it to humans :o I wondered if she was trying to dominate us by doing this, but i don`t think she is! let`s hope someone on dogo can help us  SOMEONE PLEASE HELP US

  one of my other dogs is a JRT, called Barney, but he`s one of those dogs that has to follow you everywhere, even to the toilet  , he`s very short for a JRT but if he feels the need to be with me when i`ve gone through the baby gate he just jumps from the spot like a spring and jumps straight over it!!!! i`m starting to wonder why i bothered getting the baby gate  I`ll probably get up in the morning to find the dogs have figured out how to use screwdrivers and find the baby gate in pieces!!!

we have a rough coated lurcher who is also called Shaddow. even though they were bred to course hares and rabbits it is not true that they will chase, hunt or kill small animals, as in all the 8 yrs we`ve had shaddow he`s never once done anything like that and in fact lives with 18 rabbits who during the day run free round the garden and shaddow just lays down with them and has never attempted to harm one hair on their little heads and he has never even chased them. He also lives with two cats and one of them sleeps with him. We also take him for long off the lead walks in the countryside where there are loads of rabbits etc..running wild he never chases then either!! I have a friend who breeds Lurchers, he has 11 none of them chase and kill either! :D I also know quite a few Lurcher owners theirs don`t chase and kill either. All the Lurcher`s who i`ve ever come accross (which is many) don`t chase and kill and are very calm, laid back, loving, devoted, loyal dogs, ideal pets, excellent with childen even babies, other animals and are a wonderful addition to any family. Obviously as in any breed, each dog has it`s own unique personality and therefore there will be Lurcher`s who chase etc, but that is the same with any dog and any breed and how there brought up. :D PLEASE DON`T THINK I`M HAVING A GO AT YOU I`M NOT I JUST THOUGHT I`D LET YOU KNOW WHAT I KNOW FROM HAVING EXPERIENCE WITH THE BREED AND OWNING ONE :D :D
They do like fruit and stuff, but I only give them raisins for snacks. Oh, and I forgot to mention the part where they aim a stream of pee at your eyes if you upset them.
 that happened to my husband one day, one of my chinchillas was stood up on her back legs and holding on to the front of the cage, so my husband knelt down to her eye level and attemted to gently tickle her tummy. With that my chinchilla sprayed a stream of pee directly into my husbands eye  My husband staggered round the room with his hands covering his eyes screaming.....he thought the chinchilla had blinded him....but it turned out that when he was holding his hands over his eyes he was pressing on his eyes too hard which stopped him from being able to see for about 10 seconds

my rottie LAYLAH makes me giggle as she opens doors for my other 3 dogs who aren`t as tall as she is  they have access to the garden all day as i leave the back door in the kitchen open for them which leads straight into the garden, but sometimes it accidently gets shut by one of my kids or it sometimes just slowly swings shut. before Laylah came to live with us, if the door shut the dogs would scratch at the door or whine to get someones attention to come and open it again, but now Laylah`s here she just stands on her back legs, pulls the handle down, opens the door and lets them all in  I also bought a baby gate to stop the dogs going into the hall way coz when someone knocks on the front door it`s chaos...the dogs go crazy. But Laylah`s figured out how to undo that and open it too
