i have a question. obviously. what happens when a dog is born to a breeder that has coloring (i am not sure how to word this) that is not akc aproved for it's breed? Like an all white boxer. I hope i have somewhat worded this clearly. I have heard some bad things about this situation, and just didn't want to further any myths.

my puppy (4 months) has never reacted badly to a single person, until her walk this morning. She loves everyone, when people come up to us on her daily walk in the late moring she is thrilled to death. Today a man, was doing road work, (we had already passed another group of workers and she was fine) and humboldt stoped looked right at him tensed up her body with her tail straight behing her and growled and i had to pull her down the road but she kept an eye on him. Anyone else had similar experience. My husband thinks he must have been a "bad guy". What do you guys think?

thanks for the replys. i would just buy them at the pet supply store, i mean i do that now, but at 4$ a toy every 3 days. It adds up too quickly for me. She holds them down with her back feet and diggs at their chests with her front and doesn't stop working untill she ripps the stuffing and squeaker out. Then she won't play with the limp empty toy. My uncle has a much bigger dog, but all Burton does is clean and carry his toys around, while my little beast guts them. ewwww. i will order a fat cat toy. i'll let everyone know how it goes.

my puppy likes soft toys that make noise. My problem is how quickly she goes through them. I can't leave her alone with them because she rips them within a few days. But she loves them so much, it seems dumb but i give them names (usually the color they are) and she learns very quickly what "baby" i am talking about. I am not saying she knows the color but she puts the toy to the reference word so quickly. So here is my question, are their any sites you know of for really well made dog toys. My dog is a monster and to save my rugs and table legs i think i need toys that can stand up to Humby (or Stitch of lilo and stitch, her sole mission is to reverse street signs and steal everyones left shoe). Thanks for all the responses i get, i know i have been posting alot. Under all different names, just kidding. i think i am too new to post things like that.

Luka-pop- i don't know much about dog behavior, have one now and thats why i am here, but in a time where most people with pets, people on my Air Force base, don't even bother to give their dogs the basic neccesities, you seem to be doing all you can to make this work. I aplaude your hard work and don't think your sweet heart of a dog could have found a better home. I can't give you advise but if you ever need a verbal high five, you can get one here. Keep trying, it only takes thirty seconds to fall in love with an animal and the love never stops growing. Good luck.

i am always shocked when people have been able to get so far in life being such idiots. my grandpa always says "consider the source" stupid people do stupid things

My husband is in the Air Force, he wears fatuiges all day long. His feet are so gross by the time he takes off his boots. But my humby loves it. His stinky socks are the only thing that we can get her att. with. It is kinda weird but she steals them when ever she can break into the laundry room. Maybe someone makes a treat that smells like feet. We'll just have to keep trying. Any ideas on treat dog are allowed to eat that they can't resist. Is cooked chicken or turkey okay for rewards. She hates all milk bone treats. But she got a hold of fallen meat once and liked it but we try so hard not to let her have people food. Help if you can with dog safe delicasies (sp?). thanks everyone

Thanks to everyone for the help. I am so confused about the whole issue because of the training books i have read seem to be advocates of the prong collar. I think i'll just keep trying the nylon collar. I am worried i take her on 2 walks a day and we never get very far. I can't give her any slack on the lead because she always wants to go in the street. Maybe the class will let me know what i have been doing wrong. I have been trying really hard i want her to be able to hike with us and go to eat with us but right now whenever she sees a person she freaks out, pees and trys to get to them. I think she just gets too excited. In class she acts the same way paying no attention to me or food. She ignores her food even treats untill she is tired of being with us. Hopefully she'll get over her unrelenting drive to get attention.

k- nthis is totally helping. It's hard when their are so many desisions and so many conflicting opinions. Training books are are different, and so are trainers. I am just trying to get a general consensus. thanks

who knows maybe all of the above, there was someone there who let their rotti pup and her son, of the same weight, wrestel in the back yard unsupervised. Now i am the last one to act as if i know it all, but i really couldn't understand what was going through her head. They do sell the collars. Mhh, i am a military spouse living in the smallest town in the world in one of the lamest states, we only have one training school here. The closest is 2 hours out. With us sharing a car, it makes it hard to make that trip. Are their blatent signs of a bad trainer i should look for. I would never hurt my dog or have her made fearful by anyone. Should i stay away from the school? I have heard choke collars damage the dogs trechia (sorry for my spelling). Should i just stay with nylon?

i am beinging puppy training classes for my 3 1/2 month old mix next week. i went to orientation tonight. The trainer prefers prong collars. My dog is a mixed large breed dog. What are the pros and cons of a prong collar and what is recommended.

What is everyones take on pet psychics? I like to watch the show on animal planet, but i don't really trust in those sorts of things. I would love to have animal insite though.

My puppy does sorta the same thing, she has her own couch, my husband has a chair and i have a couch, most of the time she likes to sit on either of us. Any time i go to sit in any of those places, she beats me to it, right as i am 6 inches from sitting. There she is right uder me. She never does it to my husband, it could be our fault we laugh when she does it but does it more than a game?

Humby loves ice. We give her a cube and she runs to her couch and plays with it then burries it behind the cushions with all her other treasures. I am sure she is disapointed when she can't find it and hour later

thanks everyone, i know the rule for childrens groth that is why i was wondering if there was a way to aply it to dogs. Can anyone answer the puppy tooth question, At what age do dogs lose their puppy teeth? I guess not having a clear idea of how big she will be will give me another thing to look forward to.
-
mh, she has the brown color of a german shepard, with a lighter brown mask on her face, she has short lab like fur, two white paws and a white star on her chest, a grey two inch ring around her neck, she also has black eyes, with black fur around them and a black stripe on her back....half pointed ears and a deep chest, with a big wrinkley forehead. it paints a messy picture but once i can get a picture maybe guesses will be better. whoever her parents where, i know i was meant to have her, or she to have me.

i will post as soon as i can, but as of yet, no scanner or digi cam.

just a few silly questions about puppies, what age do most puppies begin to lose their teeth? At three months, my puppy is learning so many commands, should i keep teaching her more, or keep a slow pace with her? What are good ways to stop her from barking for attention? Is there any way to know how large a mutt puppy will be, can you judge by height or weight at a cartain age? The vet said, Humboldt my "husky mix" girl that looks nothing like a husky, will be 50 to 90 lbs, but hat seems a very broad guess, i was wondering if there is a way to get more specific. thanks, i am new to the world of puppies.
