1. i thought about customs yesterday after i sent that message. sometimes when you transport overseas, the dog has to stay in customs for extended periods of time, and sometimes it IS about 6 months. the new owners have to go to customs to visit the dog. i guess it wouldn't be a good thing, since he would be about 8 months old when he finally got to go home!! :o makes me wonder about how well he would bond. and as for this:
brings up but if he suddenly needed a motorbike part or even a new motorbike we have the money
i understand...my brother is the same way about his Mopars and parts. He can't "AFFORD" a new minivan for his wife and three kids, but he has no problem coming up with the cash for an old muscle car with a flame paint job any day of the week. i feel bad about even telling you now  but that doesn't mean i'll stop dreaming for you!!
2. dragona!!
3. again...i'm leaving this one alone and just saying EXACTLY!!
4. my sentiments exactly mei-mei....that makes as much sense as the poll from "the guy who lives next.."
5. Dogs and men Dogs don't have problems expressing affection in public. Dogs miss you when you're gone. Dogs feel guilt when they've done something wrong. Dogs admit it when they're jealous. Dogs prefer going out with you to going out on their own. Dogs don't feel threatened by your intelligence. You can train a dog. Dogs are good with kids. Gorgeous dogs don't know they're gorgeous. Dogs understand what "no" means. Dogs understand if some of their friends can't come in the house. Dogs appreciate your cooking. Dogs don't feel the need to abandon you for a younger owner. Dogs don't mind if you do all the driving. Dogs don't weigh down your handbag with their stuff. Dogs don't care whether you shave your legs. Dogs aren't threatened if you earn more than they do. Dogs mean it when they kiss you. Dogs are nice to your relatives.
6. how much are you willing to spend? i have a friend in the university who's best friend just had a litter that had one solid white and one white with a small black spot on its ear. she said they're asking abour $1,000
7. last winter, we had some pups that were just getting very curious about smelling around the woods when the ponds were freezing. my dad took them along with him while he checked fences to let them out to explore...he takes his dogs to night hunt championships, and so he likes to start training them early. anyway, he had just chopped ice on the pond for the horses, and went up the hill to check another fence. after about 15 minutes of not seeing the pups, our shepherd Matchi came running to him freaking out. he knew something was up, so he trekked back down to the pond following her and there they were, in the middle of the pond all 5 of them paddling furiously. he didn't think twice. next thing i know he's running in the house all wet with ice freezing on his arm hair holding 5 rather large trembling pups. he'd jumped right in...no questions. he was in the water for 10 minutes :o trying to get them all because they kept slipping under the ice. so he kept reacing under the ice and pulling them back to the surface. he could only bring two at a time to the pond bank. so the last one out was in pretty bad shape. it was an all day process to bring them back, since we had to do it slowly to keep them from bloating. we had to use blankets first, then hairdryers, THEN a warm bath, then we put heating pads on them the rest of the day. the last one out didn't make it. by the time we got to the vets, her stomach has bloated so far from gasses in her blood expanding, that they had to lancce her, and she just couldn't take the shock anymore. my dad hunts his dogs, and a lot of people think that men who hunt their dogs just see them as working dogs and don't bother bonding with them. but that day, i realized how close dad was to all of his dogs....he could have died, as that's a 15 foot deep pond. i can't FATHOM someone just waiting and watching, and hoping for a samaritan, as their own dog is dying and scared.......at least there was that cop....he should be commended!!
8. ok...i promised myself i wouldn't get into another one of these debates for a while...i'm sure most of you can guess how i stand on this. i just have two words for mei mei who said :
Knowing that a Collie is a recreational barker wouldn't it be wiser to GET ANOTHER BREED OF DOG rather than de-barking it?
THANK YOU!!!
9. welcome to the forum JS*...if you're really aversed to any form of popular flea repellant, i'm not sure what i can tell you, except DON'T USE THE DROPS!!! (see topic Someone please help save this dog!!! (((URGENT))) in the "dogs in need" forum...i put some links there to websites that empirically link them to pet death and paralysis. you can get a tablet from your vet that your dog can take by mouth, and he/she should have some other forms of treatment. if you choose your vet carefully, talk to REPUTABLE breeders to get a good vet referral, etc. you should be o.k. and he/she should work with you to find something you can both be comfortable with. one thing i CAN say is that a good quality cedar bed is great for repelling fleas, (if you can get him to SLEEP on it  ) Cedar beds also do the following: --Cedar is a natural flea & tick repellant. --Cedar chips naturally encourage a healthy coat in your dog. --The beds are fully machine-washable (both inner lining and slip cover). --They are made with a velcro encloser, leaving no zipper for dogs to chew. -Even a few minutes on a Cedar Bed will help your pet. i got this off of a website by the way..so if it sounds like i'm trying to sell you something, now you know why :D another thing you can use is essential oils. Some Essential Oils that have shown effectiveness in repelling insects are: cedar, citronella, pennyroyal, lemongrass, rosemary, eucalyptus, and lavender. you can get these in a lot of healthfood stores, and sometimes at stores like petco...or you can just use a the keywords "fleas and essential oils" to order them online! just make sure you dilute it with water and just spray it on them..don't put it driectly on the skin, as they could have an allergy.
10. i don't know the history here,...how long have you had him? if you've had him for a long while, i would think maybe he would wonder what ws going on, but then again, if he loves it there, and he'd get more playtime and stimulation (not to mention being the only dog for all those loving hands!!) but just as carol cautioned you on not trying to replace HIM, i would wonder about them replacing their old much loved dog with daz. we had a poodle for years, and when he died, my dad couldn't bring himself to have another house dog for about 5 years. then we got winston and it was love all over again...but now he's old, and his eyes and teeth, and his back right knee joint are all going out on him. we're right now, having to deal with the concept that this wonderful dog we thought would live forever won't be with us much longer. mom and dad thought about bringing a new puppy into the house so that when winston passed they'd already have another one they'd bonded with, to ease the pain. but after thinking about it, they decided that it wouldn't be fair to that puppy...to make him a secondary choice, since nothing could ever be winston...and it's hard for a new pup to fill the HUGE pawprints left in your heart by a truly loved, long-time family member. and just like after princey died...they know they'll just need time to heal. but if your family has already bonded with daz, and he's bonded well with them, perhaps he could fill that big void. i'm just want to make sure that YOU'RE ready for the void that will be there when he's gone.
11.
Feel free to name some punishments. I deserve it.
none needed wildbunch!! i laughed so hard this morning!! i've been schlupping around here for the past week writing a dissertation and i know about fried brains...and boy that was a much needed laugh!!  i just kept having images of jeremy having to fight me into the tub and scrub behind my ears before he'd let me put on my dress, and then i was imagining getting to my honeymoon and jeremy going in and saying "no...you have to stay here, i didn't reserve a room for you" :o and i didn't take it as anything as funny....and boy, it WAS. he he he. so tell your dogs to let you back in!
12. boy, THAT becomes a fuzzy line doesn't it :o ...i understand the reasoning behind making the feeding of wild game to sled dogs illegal. i suppose the powers that be fear the consequences of allowing wild game to serve as food stuff for the dogs. lowered herd populations, decreased numbers...going the way of the buffalo. but not even ROADKILL??? that's just a crying waste!! rotting in heaps while those poor owners have to shoot their own dogs..and transportation at that!! :o for lack of food?? i don't understand why alottments can't be made for difficult times. i realize that these people aren't close to roads, but it seems like if food can be shipped in all the way from the mainland down there, surely they can fire up a chopper and haul a dead moose out a couple hundred miles! i understand the reasoning behind the rules...don't get me wrong, but geez. i hope that the donations of everyone and my own pathetic self can make some difference :(
13. oooh, well in THAT case....MMMM PIZZLE how much do you want to bet she doesn't share now :o
14. thank you everyone, soooo much. i've been worrying about this, or if i was bad for wanting to sedate him just a bit.
Does future hubby have any fur-kids
jeremy has wanker now!! and after we get married we're moving into my grandmother's old house that has 80 acres attached, so we're going to adopt some greyhounds from the local racetrack in memphis, tn....so even though he NEVER had dogs growing up  (can't imagine that) he has an innate love of dogs and he worships the ground wanker walks on. by the way....wow i got some good laughs this morning!!! he he he, my dog's name is Wanker...MINE is mcobbin!! so imagine my laughing at 8:00 a.m. reading THIS :
I assume Mcobbin will be getting a thorough bathing before the big time.
yeah, i imagine jeremy would protest a bit if i didn't
I really hope you find something that works or Mcobbin will choose that day to be the most well behaved gentleman you've ever seen
well...i'm not making any promises, but i'll try my best not to chase any squirrels during the wedding march!!   and the best by far:
I certainly hope you booked a suite for Mcobbin
i certainly hope so, otherwise, jeremy has some "SPLAININ' TA DO!!! ha ha ha..thanks guys!! you've just made my morning...oh,. and gave great advice!!
15. ok. not really, but i wanted to make sure someone would click here and read it!! but it does pertain!! i promise :) as some of you know i'm getting married in may, and i've been promised by the owner of the estate that i CAN bring wanker to the wedding, which is good for her, because she wouldn't be getting a check from me if i couldn't. Wanker is going to be the ring bearer in our wedding, and he's really just used to me, jeremy, my occasional drop-by friends, and my parents. so, i'm just seeing visions of my V-E-R-Y excitable little dog tearing up the aisle, and burying himself in the mounds of tulle that make up the bulk of my $2,000 gown!! i can also see him running up and down the aisle sticking his nose into the crotch of every unfortunate soul seated in an aisle seat!! i'm not afraid of his assualting anyone, just loving them to death. he has impeccable manners in the home, but oncce i take him outside, he catches attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and for some reason, goes STONE DEAF to some of (who am i kidding) MOST of my commands. a local vet has recommended a fluid that i can buy at PetCo that i pour in his water and is supposed to make him calm. WELL, considering that this vet also promotes Hill's Science Diet, i sometimes wonder if he knows the best  probably why wanker doesn't go to him :) anyway, so i went to the store and read the label. don't even KNOW what it said, but it came with a disclaimer not to use more than 6 months. but that makes me wonder if it can do damage in 6 months...what can it do with one dose? makes me a little leery. has anyone ever heard of this stuff, and if not, can anyone give me advice on something herbal and doggy friendly? please? pretty please?
16. wanker not only MUST sleep in the bed, but he MUST be under the covers. what's cute though, is if he gets in bed, he wants his head on the pillow. if we don't cover him up, head and all, he'll reach down, grab the blanket in his front teeth, and cover himself up!! the first time that happened, jeremy and i laughed all night long!!
17. what gets me is his eyes....he looks so trusting...no idea of what's about to happen
18. you know...three seconds ago i was reading this and thinking...no..kids read this forum...but since you brought it up....yeah....what's worse is that the phrase "got off" was in there. but K....i don't know you well enough to sit on the couch with your pizzle...i like to take the time to get to KNOW someone first, you know ...make sure they're that "special one"...and what worries me more...i'm kind of scared of girls with pizzles
19. and i'm not even blonde :P
20. ok.....where's the "i just got sick to my stomach" emoticon?
21. what was the outcome of this post? anyone?
22. on the second page of the "everything about dogs" forum, there is a discussion called Dog pregnancy. you may be interested in some input people had there about false (aka hysterical) pregnancies in dogs. but, like K said, you should really take her to the vet and make sure that she ISN'T pregnant before you assume that she's having a false pregnancy. it's actually rare. and if she IS pregnant, you'd need to put her on a special diet as soon as possible...better safe than sorry!
23. i laughed...then realized it does make sense!!
Don't tell me "heel" when I've smelled fox
at least i have been able to teach wanker that just because he SEES a squirrel, and just because he can SMELL the squirrel, and just because the squirrel is in BITING range, does not mean he can CHASE the squirrel across two lanes of traffic!!
24. oh MAN..i AM dense!!! nevermind..i get it....sorry hobbit.....i realize now what you were saying!!
25. ????? :o i guess i'm very dense..did i miss something? i even went back and re read the article? geez, i feel stupid right now
