1. Ah yes, the lights just went on upstairs...! Thanks Sash.. :D
2. What kind of dogs were they again? I know they were pretty robust, hepfty-looking.. The type has escaped me.. It was on the forum somewhere I am sure!!!!!!!!!
3. Oh god this sucks!! Its 50/50 now.. What the hell happened? And where do we write to to accuse them of rigging? Unless the 'Protect our cute kiddie winkies from horrible slobbery pooches' forum got wind of the story.. Pleeeeaze. Proof of a biased media? I think so!
4. I you can, vote from your work computer AND your home one- so you get 2 votes in!!!!!!!!!
5. The IBIZAN HOUND "This is an elegant and racily built hunting dog, with an exceptional jumping ability. In spite of its friendly disposition, it is only obedient when it feels inclined. Its coat may white and red or tawny. Large breed requiring a maximum amount of exercise, at least an hour a day, half of which should be galloping free. Short coated requiring grooming only once a week. A rarer breed." Wendy Boorer, Dogs, 1979, Hennerwood productions, London "The Ibizan hound comes from the island of Ibiza in the Balaerics, and is also to be found on the other Balearic islands. It is a useful, medium-sized hound, very active and intelligent, and hunts by scent as much as by sight. In their native islands Ibizan hounds are used to hunt partridge, hare and rabbit as well as larger game. They retrieve and point and are sometimes hunted in packs as well as singly. Although usually thought of as smooth-coated, these hounds can be wire- or long-coated, the long coat being really a rough coat. The breed has a long, lean head with erect ears, and can be red and white, tawny or whole-coloured. It is a friendly, attractive dog and a good companion for anyone wanting a days rabbiting in the country. Similar to the Pharoah hound. John and Mary Holmes, The colourful world of dogs, 1976, Hennerwood productions, London
6. Yeah, cool- but we gotta keep it up! Get your friends to vote and anyone else you can grab! Remember- the DOG-HATERS-R-US forum could get hold of this any day now and then...!! Please, please vote no even if you think this doesn't involve you. Remember, its the pitbull today, the dobermann or the rottweiler or even the GSD tomorrow... and so on and so on. Once people start to think of dogs in terms of just 'breed' rather than the individual then the future is bleak for all dog lovers and owners- some dogs are always going to be owned by cruel, ignorant and/or irresponsible owners and if the behaviour of these unfortunate few is enough to tarr the reputation of all other dogs of their type.. the innocent majority will suffer. Condemn one, condemn them all :( VOTE NO!!

LOL

I didn't know either a few months ago! It's Laugh Out Loud I believe.. :D
8. I would say that this guy has just trotted out a load of generalisations and stereotypes, the whole thing is nonesense.
9. Its at the link given by gooey dog, scroll down and its the turquioise ish box on the right of the headlines. Currently 350 say yes and 182 say no. Quick everybody, get over there and vote!!!!!!
10. I gave em my 2 cents worth and voted no. Jeez have people forgotten that old saying 'Give a dog a bad name and hang him?' (Hope that's right)!
11. Hi nanoekie Thankyou for the information- I really learned from this post and the links people have contributed and I am just fascinated by these dogs. All my life I have personally :) preferred dogs that were closest in form to their wild ancestor- the first I really noticed in that respect was the German Shepherd dog and I have loved the breed ever since, but I think that huskies and Malamutes are particularly striking. I find these breeds that I have just discovered particularly beautiful. Thanks again to everyone who contributed! :D
12. I was concerned as I could imagine that there would be great interest over a dog that looked like a wolf, and that there would very likely be someone reported for keeping a 'wolf' because of it. I know that many people were reported for owning wolf hybrids in the UK a couple of years back and that at least one dog believed to have some wolf blood, was taken from the owners. I would think/hope that the correct papers would be sufficient to 'clear' the owner, provided by the breeder. I don't know the legalities involved- where do you stand if you are accused of having a wolf that is actually your dog!!?
13. I also consider the last comment by 'RUDE' guest to be extremely unnecessary and highly offensive. Can the moderators erase it if possible?
14. :o Quick, start another breed someone!!! :o
15. I have found the moderators to be fair to all parties, even when the guests were explicitly rude to them!!! :x
16. Hi Huan, can you tell me if there are any specific laws that the uk CzW owner has had to abide by or is the dog seen as just a dog? I am just wondering because of all the hoohah about wolf hybrids we had here a while back, is there any kind of licence required to keep this breed?
17. Yes I think that's true. Are all ex-racing greyhounds a risk with cats and other small animals? So many of these dogs are in need of care when their racing days are over. It seems that most may be a continual risk because they are trained to chase after small animals all their lives- can anyone tell me of success in training this out of them, or at least to a point where they can be checked? How's it done!?
18. HHHmmmm after some consideration I would recommend the tip of the tail as an oppurtune biting point in the undocked dog, and an ear tip or flap in the docked dog, easy places to get your teeth around.. a head is pushing it! Still, pretty brave thing to do!!! I guess he didn't have time to consider it much!
19. Wow :o these are so stunning! I don't know that I could keep one myself, much as I will enjoy daydreaming about it, but these are spectacular! Thanks for the links!
20. Can I point out that I am not discussing the pro/anti hunt issue cos I know that that could run and run and get seriously nasty, so I am not trotting out my own arguments for my beliefs... I am generally interested in whether dogs that have been trained and trained to do one thing can switch to a different lifestyle all together, and this is not a debate on what they would choose to do with their lives but of whether they can make the switch if they need to..
21. I think they originated as wolf hybrids but that they have been developed into a breed of dog with certain wolfish characteristics... I am not sure, the thread where I stumbled across them was under showing and was called 'showing dogs with hereditary defects'- I think..!! So they are a breed of dog, again I think!!!!! :-?
22. I think that hunting people can have a far less sentimental perception of animals than others, as many of their animals are kept for the express purpose of doing a job, in a way, earning their keep. I saw a hound shot in a pro-hunting programme, Very quickly, cleanly and without fuss, because it had no aptitude for the job. I can see the logic in it, but there again it is not the way I view them myself. Whilst I want an end to the hunting- again avoiding the pro/anti hunting arguments- I dread what it would mean for the dogs. Is the foxhound breed itself a poor pet? I saw it described a such in a book. And I can see the point about the enormous contrast- the outdoor life, the exercise, even the type of food would vary enormously... Actually, Could the whole pack be retrained to chase a scent so they could continue as drag hunters? So is it the very young 'fighters' that are the ones successfully rehabilitated? Or the 'bait' dogs- I don't even want to ask why they are called that as I think I know.. And what signs are there that you should give up with a dog for those of you that have attempted rehabilitation...
23. Chin up K, it might be good news...
24. nanoekie can I just state that you have a stunning dog there, what a beautiful breed!! I seem to remember reading about them a long time ago, but I barely remembered them.. wow, what a stunner!! :)
25. This was yesterday, I would really like to now if this dog survived... :(
