Spray your yard with tick/flea repelant and then find a drip or whatever it's called.....I recommened taking everyons advice...on whether or not it's good...but most of the time depending on if your dog stays home 99% of the time....the tick/flea repelant should be fine...My labe never had a tick or flea on them and we lived in the country and did the spray....

Most breeds are fine...I understand that...but I just ahd to mention my type of breed....with everything I said above with it...... But a really great breed is the lab.....they are great little couch potatos most of the time....I loved mine..... Any type of heeler I would also say yes too.....just personally speaking!

Help me convince to have dogs out of cold!
GizmoRedNosePit replied to Aroura's topic in Everything about dogs
I think there should be laws everywhere.....dogs should have a good shelter...sure they have fur and all the stuff out side animals need......but still they are suppose to be our companions! They should have shelter :D -
http://pitgirls.com/ PETA Here is a mean, hateful, offensive and ridiculous article which illustrates PETA's stance on 'Pit Bulls'. Please get the word out. PETA is for the destruction of all companion animals & they regularly support breed specific legislation. Urge people to discontinue their membership & to donate their money to local animal rescue groups instead. All true animal lovers must act now. This is a well organized, well funded organization with an irrational agenda. ============================ Knight Ridder/Tribune January 25, 2000, Tuesday SECTION: COMMENTARY Some dogs are weapons - ban them By Ingrid Newkirk Most people have no idea that at many animal shelters across the country, any "pit bull" who comes through the front door goes out the back door in a body bag. From San Jose to Schenectady, many shelters have enacted policies requiring the automatic destruction of the huge and ever-growing number of "pits" they encounter. This news shocks and outrages the compassionate dog-lover. Here's another shocker: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the very people who are trying to get you to denounce the killing of, chickens or the table, foxes for fur, or frogs for dissection, supports the pit bull policy, albeit with reluctance. The pit bull's ancestor, the Staffordshire terrier, is a human concoction, bred in my native England, I'm ashamed to say, as a weapon. These dogs were designed specifically to fight other animals and kill them, for human sport. Hence the barrel chest, the thick hammer-like head, the strong jaws, the perseverance and the stamina. Pits can take down a bull weighing in at over a thousand pounds, so a human being a tenth of that weight is small potatoes to them. Pit bulls are perhaps the most abused dogs on the planet. These days, they are kept for potection by almost every drug dealer and pimp in every major city and beyond. You can drive into any depressed area and see them being used as cheap burglar alarms, wearing heavy logging chains around their necks (they easily break regular collars and harnesses),attached to a stake or metal drum or rundown doghouse without a floor and with holes in the roof. Bored juveniles "sic" them on cats, neighbors' small dogs and even children. In the PETA office we have a file drawer chock-full of accounts of attacks in which these ill-treated dogs have torn the faces and fingers off infants and even police officers trying to serve warrants. Today, organizing dog fights is a federal offense in this country, yet pits are still king of the ring. Humane officers and other law enforcement agents routinely break up rings in New Mexico, Massachusetts, Michigan and Florida. They confiscate dog-fighting paraphernalia, including treadmills used to build doggie endurance and drugs used to numb pain from injuries inflicted by opponents and to "jazz up" the dogs. They find mesh bags in which kittens, rabbits, puppies and other small prey are suspended over the dogs to encourage fighting spirit. Not uncommonly they find what's left of dogs who have lost their battles. They are not always dead. Those who argue against the euthanasia policy for pit bull dogs are naive. One dog I know who was adopted out to a new family suddenly clamped his jaw onto the thigh of a 7-year-old boy. Two grown men had a hard time getting the dog off and the child suffered permanent nerve damage. Tales like this abound. I have scars on my leg and arm from my own encounter with a pit. Many are loving and will kiss on sight, but many are unpredictable. An unpredictable chihuahua is one thing, an unpredictable pit another. People who genuinely care about dogs won't be affected by a ban on pits. They can go to the shelter and save one of the countless other breeds and lovable mutts sitting on death row through no fault of their own. We can only stop killing pits if we stop creating new ones. Legislators, please take note. ABOUT THE WRITER Ingrid Newkirk is president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, 501 Front St., Norfolk, VA. 23501, www.PETA-online.org. OK, TO EVERYONE I GUESS...... I have recommended the APBT because this person asked...I am giving her/him help.....Yet I have noted that with this breed YOU MUST SOCIALIZE IT AND LET IT KNOW WHO IS THE BOSS AND NOT BE TIED UP IN THE BACK YARD.....Now if this person wants a breed that is I am looking for a medium to large breed. I am interested in a dog that like water, is easy to train, doesn't bark or shed alot, and is sociable Pitbulls are a medium to large breed, likes water, easy to train, doesn't bark or shed alot and is sociable.....now the only way that this would work is if they did research, and get it from a pup and train it, and let it know who is the alpha, and socialize it like the pup is attached to their hip..... I have never owned a puppy and this is my first time and before I got this breed I did go and research to a point that it started driving my boyfriend crazy, and when I got her - the training and socialization started....it's not that hard and it was my opinion.... I do undesrstand that it is bad owners but yet they have to do the work if they want a dog...everyone should know about the breed they are getting so the dog is happier and the owners..... It was my opinion and I dont take it against anyone coming back the way most of you did...but they asked so I answered! Yes, this breed takes alot of time and effert....but if she wants a dog any dog will be......just the APBT is more.....

Beaglle you hit it right on the head of the nail!! They do breed "mutts" so that breed does get better and better! Beaglle the other night I was at the dog park, and this makle beagle came in and it was cute in the beggining and then it attacked Gizmo, and a weimeriner(sp?) and a couple other dogs....I found out the day after why.,,, It hadn't been fixed....I really wonder if that is the reason....hmmmm Lets just hope when gizmo gets bigger and that dog comes back, that gizmo doesn't hurt it...if she gets mad....I dont think she will but....she will think its playing at first and then the dog got meaner faster and then she layed on her back...so i dunno!

Glad to see so many people taking up for the APBT
GizmoRedNosePit replied to a topic in Amstaffs & Pit Bulls
I personally have no problem with your type of breed.....every dog is it's own....just because the UKC and the other rule the world of dogs...doesn't mean that if they dont approve of it then it's not a breed.... I love mixed breeds.....how did they make the american pitbull tell me that!! They bred two dogs to make this breed....so the bull boxers isn't good enoguh for any of you? If I was lucky enoguh to get this breed I would be very, Very, VEry, VERy, VERY happy to have it! :D -
AXEL - I don't think that a pit bull would be the breed for you. Don't get me wrong i have nothing against the breed but we all know of the horror stories of pitbulls and 99% of the time its an inexperienced owners fault as they dont know how to control. Most enthusiasts of such a strong breed will discourage people who are not experienced dog handlers from having a pit bull. They are also not very sociable in the wrong hands. :( - So it has a bad rap? I am a first pitbull owner and she is socialized at least 5 out of the 7 days we have in a week....Its also not hard to control ANY dog as all you have to do is train them how to listen to your voice and your actions and know how to walk on a leash.... As long as you love them they will be fine.....when people come over the house...they will be socialized....take them to a famouse/populare street in your town....it's not that hard...and if you get a puppy you know you will want to take it every where as i did! I know you might have no problem with this breed but I highley support them and I try to tell people it's STUPID people that dont know ANYTHING about dogs that sometimes screw it up.....if you get a dog and just leave it alone and iggnore it it will get mad and turn out a sour apple....any dog willl do that..... :) I'm not yelling at you....just my opinion

K -- Really! It's impossible when they are so younge and rumbunquise(sp?) lol Puppys are the best just like kids!! LOL :D

I definetly suggest the Animal Shelter...if you just want a pet....get one that needs a home before they kill the poor little cutie! Pitbulls are great..very smart, I have seen that they LOVE water...but notmine yet I guess! They are short hair, they dont shed that much and they dont bark, as long as you give them alot of attention, and there are plenty at shelter....the only problem with them is that not many people like thwm because of the news...Hope it helped... Another dog that is not to big and very smart is a heeler of anytype.... I had a quesland heelr that was mixed with coyote...VERY INTERESTING DOG!! LOL She was a bit of a handle but great dog...very smart also!
-
LOL, that is GREAT! And so very true.....but if they know sit, stay then it's alot easier but still not easy enough!! :D Gizmo goes crazy when I'm trying to take pics...it usually takes two people to get pics done!
-
REALLY??? I have never heard that befor.....hmmm.....I guess it's toast for gizmo.... I tear up the bread and then put it in with rice and dog food.....so it absorbs water...is that ok???

GizmoRedNosePit replied to Aroura's topic in Everything about dogs
For everyone that can not allow their dogs inside during the summer/winter....Do this Winter: Make a sturdy dog house made out of 2 by 4's and ply wood....not to exspensive....make it big enough for a full grown dog...take "security lights" I guess and type of light that conducts heat and put them up so you can turn them on and off...But make sure it doesn't get to hot or you will cook your dog! for the entrance have life a potato bag (not plastic ubt one of those heavy duty brown ones) hanging over the top so it doesn't loose to much of the heat.... Summer: With summer you have to protect form heat so the ply wood should come off the dog house or the ply wood should get some type of paint that deflects the heat...and then make a fan in the hole that you can cover in the winter and open during the summer...and then make a misting system.....just ask at your local home depot or lowes and tey will show you.... That is just like inside....well close enough for our loved ones!! -
I'm sorry if I'm affending someone or everyone....but the way i see is if they fix the dogs or animals whatever....then they will not make more...and if they make sure the owners that are getting the pets are Good Owners to have these great beasts then everything should be ok....J Just remeber that they need homes just like the ones in the newspaper ads, on the internet. What about Kennels that sell their puppies..... They still have to ship them.....
-
I had the same problem...with her it ws mainly pigeon and duck poop, and leaves and stuff like that...we lived ont he lake for a little while....drove gizmo crazy all the ducks!...but anyways she would start going towards it and i would gently pull on her leash and say no poo poo...or what ever it is...and if she went another way and got back to it somehow I would tap her on her butt and say no...she was a sneaky little devil! I dont agree with muzzling but the way it's going I may have to.... all the states dislike the pits now so much so...I dunno...hopefully I wont ever have to... Dont worrie it's my first "puppy" also and I love it but I still dont know everything! I was lucky enough she potty trained herself! LOL :D
-
:D Well thanks but it's the truth form my eyes.... As long as they are shipped responsibly and not sit in the heat or cold....and they have something to comfort them or something....I know that things like that can be stressful on animals of all types...but imagine how many people fly with their pets every day! As long as they are comfortable thats all that I care and they make it to the new home.... Auctioning IS VERY BAD.....but look behind that part and you will see this pet whether it is an old abused dog or an abandoned puppy or an Ex fighting dog...so be it... They are going to places where people will love them and not chain them up..... The pets need to be taken somewhere or they will die....

Is the APBT the best dog to be a guard dog??
GizmoRedNosePit replied to GizmoRedNosePit's topic in Amstaffs & Pit Bulls
Not only will they protect you, but they will love on ya and give you lots of joy and laughter in your life. I agree but dont you think any dog would be a good gaurd dog...All dogs love their owners (except abused ones) and they all will give their life for us!! But the question I have would we take our lives for our dogs?? They would why wouldn't we..... -
HorseFeathers I agree but still there isn't a dang thing we can do except fix our pets and tell people about the VERY BIG problem with the mass production of unwanted pups....but still all these pets are getting a home with transporting animals....I disagree with actioning them but I cant do anything..............
-
The way I see it, at least the animals are geting a home...it may be stressful but in the long run it will be the best becuase they will be loved!!
-
Maybe gizmo wont need that.....I dunno....How much did it cost you....
-
With pig ears thing..I was told you should take them and wask them very well with a scrubbie....I didn't ask but any time Gizmo gets a pig ear it gets scrubbed....
