Photos of the gang (yes, including the baby boy!)
Aroura replied to Aroura's topic in Everything about dogs
Liz, Montie loved Lily, they were great together, Lily was always so gentle with Montie, he was the only dog she would never hurt, even when she was eating. I feel so bad to have taken that away from Montie. How are they getting along??? Well thats very complicated!!! For starters, Montie has very frequent mood swings, he'll be playing with Diego one second, squeeling and attacking him the next (its actually quite funny to see!). Diego's a pain too, I can't walk them together because if I let Diego off he bowls them both over, and it hurts! He's reaching about 45km's now, getting faster each week. He was after Montie the other day and I put my hand out so he didn't run straight over him... well he hit my hand and it HURT!!!! So I take them on seperate walks now  Cassie doesn't really get along well with him, she's not as young and playful as Montie, but sometimes I think she WANTS to play with him, but she's so sensitive and he just hurts her, so that doesn't happen much. None of them ever "fight" with each other, the little ones will let Diego know if they've had enough though. Diego wouldn't know what food aggression is either, he's so intent on sharing his food with everyone that I have to sit with them at meal times and make sure Cassie and Montie don't eat Diego's food - he'll actually take it to them and drop it at their feet! No, I don't have any photos of them together, but I guess I could get a nice one after they've all had baths! They are very grubby little dogs at the moment, I've been working for the past week and they've been staying with Josh's mum in a dog run, playing with four other grubby pups in their "free" time, and running around on the dusty road on walks, considering they look reasonably good, but they could do with a scrub  -
Ok, its been long enough, I thought it was about time (now I've got a computer that I can use my camera software on!) that I posted some photos... this lot of photos goes as far back as Lily's last day  right up until a few days ago  Here you go, there are a few, and they are probably big, but I haven't worked out how to down size the photos yet! This is the one that makes me cry the most, it was Lily's last day and she just looked at me so trusting, so loving... poor sweetheart  This is one I might get framed, they are just so gorgeous together! He got best puppy of breed, but he was the only whippet pup there so I'm not sure if that counts or not  Diego posing for the camera, looking very elegant indeed! Diego's beauty shot, he's so gorgeous here. It was in colour, but I was fiddling with it in iPhoto and couldn't get it back again! I like it this way anyway, but I think I should read the instructions manual  This is the view from my front varanda, lovely isn't it? The dogs love it out here :D

Diego broke his tooth the other day. He jumped up and grabbed onto my bag while I was walking and I heard a snap, I think what happend is that one tooth got caught. Thank GOD it was a baby tooth!!! One of his canines. It was still well connected because it was bleeding, he handled it pretty well though, I could tell he was in pain by the way he was walking around in circles with his mouth open "following" his pain, but he didn't yelp or anything! I'm just wondering, should I worry about it? He's four and a half months now, I don't know what age they normally lose their canines, but it seemed pretty well intact, otherwise it would have just come out completely! The break is about a mm away from the gum, a bit of it goes right up to the gum. What age should it fall out? Will it affect the growth of the new tooth? He was meant to go to a show this weekend, I was considering not going anyway as I have an assinment due on Monday, but this was the deciding factor, don't think the judge would be too keen on a broken tooth! :drinking:

Absolutely gorgeous, thanks for sharing. Congrats on your success!!! Hope you continue to do so well when you take up weight pulling, and I look forwards to pics of that!

Thanks guys, I know I can always rely on you for sympathy when I need it most. Desertlady, I am crying, I'm crying so much, Smooshies post triggered it, every time I see a Boxer I can't help but cry, but then all the other posts added to it, and now I'm just crying so much again  bk, I do remember the good times, thats all I do remember, and thats half the reason I'm always so upset. The funny thing is, at the time of course I was upset and missed her, but I coped. Then it started, every time I'd see a Boxer I'd cry, then about once a week, and now I'm having a good cry pretty much every day, even when I'm out I can't hold it in. Its not guilt though, I know I did what I had to do, but I think I've realised that I'll never come close to replacing her, she was so loyal, so obedient, so brilliant, but... so aggressive  Another reason why I think I'm coping so poorly now is because I've looked into getting another Boxer, I want to replace her, but with out the aggessiveness, and its so upsetting that I will never get another dog like her, but also, common sence tells me I can't get another Boxer right now, for starters Diego is still a pup, but also, I don't have a job, don't have a drivers licence yet... obviously they can be changed, but the big reason I can't get one now is because I want to have kids in the next few years, would a baby be able to handle a Boxer? They are so boisterous.... thats the big reason I've decided against it. I miss her hugs, I miss her games, her loving looks, her slobber, even her gorgeous yet gross burps. She always used to come up to me after a meal, sit and burp at me, like in those countries where you burp in appreciation, I'm sure thats what she was doing... I also think another reason I've been so upset is because I haven't really had access to dogo, you guys really know how to cheer me up, thankfully though I just got my gorgeous new computer yesterday so I have the net. Yayyy!!!!!! And of course, the very last reason why I think I'm so upset about Lily is because Josh is away, he's been gone for over a month now, Lily always gave the best cuddles and I'd give the world right now to have her shoulder to cry on
-
I'm so cut up about putting Lily to sleep, even though I knew it was the best, and only thing to do, I miss her so much and have been coping less and less as time goes by. I spent about half an hour bawling my eyes out this morning. I miss her so much, I want her back so bad... just had to share, library closing now, sorry I can't stay longer

I've got birds of prey living all around me, and beleive me, I worry!!! One of the eagles around here has been seen flying with a lamb to its nest, 2kg Montie wouldn't stand a chance!!! And then there's that fox thats been harassing the dogs, got someone to shoot it last night, thank god for that. It is often a worry living out of town, but you're not safe anywhere really, I was walking the dogs in town the other day when a guy decided to let his staffie off to go at Montie, could have killed him, the guy didn't even offer to pay vet bills, instead yelled at me when I started screaming at his dog and dragged it off poor Monn... stupid arrogant guy... I'm SOOOO annoyed, poor Montie was in so much pain, had to take pain killers for a week, tore all the muscles down his back and got numberous puncture wounds, lucky it wasn't worse :( If I do ever see a bird of prey though, the first thing I do is pick the dogs up, no point waiting and believing it wont happen to you, because if it does then its already too late.

What happend to me... and picks of Diego!!! :o)
Aroura replied to Aroura's topic in Everything about dogs
So good to hear from you all!!! Ahhh... dogo hit.... this is so good  Sorry I've been away, and sorry that I'm only jumping on for a short time right now, I've made a special trip to uni just to use the computer, but only have half an hour and its nearly up! So after this, again I'll probably be away for a while. BUT.... I've got 3 weeks of work in october, paying nearly $700 a week, so I'll be able to save and get that new iMac I've been drooling over for so long! Josh was going to buy it for me, but I think we'll just go halves in it... Anyway, yes, he is a baby whippet... and has his first show tomorrow!!! I'm so excited, but also nervous. Don't know what to expect and I've been so busey I've hardly had any time to train him to stand etc. Oh well, wish me luck!!! ESSlover, I bet you wanted to bring that dog home too? They have got the nicest nature of any breed, actually sight hounds in general do, they are so layed back. A lot of whippets are nervous, but he's been so well socialised, he's been everywhere with me and did puppy pre school (and one the prize for most relaxed puppy, which was a bottle of frontline spray!). He's tops, everyone loves him. BK, I'm out of town now... and loving it!!! Josh is gone now though, I wont see him for four months, then he'll be back for probalby like a week, then gone for three months, back for another week, gone another three months... I'll hardly see him for like a year, then I'll only get to see him two months on and two months off until he retires :( It's a good thing I've got the dogs to keep me company, and uni to keep me busey, and some on and off work! I've been working in the wool sheds as a rouse about... not sure if that spelt right, but all I see all day is bloody sheep, and thats all I see at night when I close my eyes also!!! Gosh, I feel like such a country girl   -
What happend to me... and picks of Diego!!! :o)
Aroura replied to Aroura's topic in Everything about dogs
I promise, I will, as soon as I can... it will probably be a few months though before I get a computer of my own! Here's some more of Diego :D This is my favourite: And this one is him sleeping with me... he's such a snuggle bum! -
Hi everyone!!! I'm sure some of you have noticed that I kind of just dissapeared off the face of dogos universe without so much as a goodbye... well I'm sorry, I hope you haven't been worrying, I'm not ill, I haven't had a death in the family, none of that, just that I moved earlier than I expected to and haven't had any access what so ever to the internet!!! I've got dads computer for the night to type up my assignment thats due next week, but then dads heading off to Cujie beach so I wont have access again. I just thought I'd better stop in and explain whats going, I know I always worry when a dogo member disapears!!! I'm not sure when I'll be online again, I doubt I'll ever be on as much as I used to be, the net here is slow because we're so far out of town, only a speed of 32 what ever it is... The second reason I'm dropping in is because I have to share pictures of Diego with you!!! We've had him 4 weeks now, he's absolutely gorgeous. He's got the best temprement of any puppy I've ever met. Anyway, here he is  Well I've got to run now, this is the second last night I get with Josh before he goes out to sea for a year!
-
Thank you, yes she was a very beautiful dog, everyone who met her commented. It seemed like such a waste to end her life early - she was so beautiful, so intellegent, so obedient, I'd gone so far with her in every other way but no matter what I did I couldn't get her over he aggression problems  I still love Boxers, seeing them always brings back memories of Lily. As I said, I'll get another one some day, but for the mean time its easier for me to get more of a family dog, my boyfriend and I are getting a Whippet, but a Beagle would be equally suited
-
I can't find a photo of Switch (the cutest, most obedienct Beagle in the world), but while looking I came across a lot of Lily  Here is my beautiful angel: And as a baby:

I think I got one from Newfiemom a few days back - I didn't even think to look what it was, if I ever get something I'm not sure about I just trash it. Can't remember what it was called, but I knew it wouldn't have really been from her :-?

I'm sorry to hear about your boxer. My boxer had to be put to sleep a few months ago, she hadn't bitten anyone, yet, but was as ferocious as they come towards children and I couldn't risk someones childs life, god only knows what might have happend otherwise. Despite that terrible experience I'm getting another dog. Yes, I'm scared off of gaurding breeds for a while, I'm not going to get another boxer yet, or a dobe, or a shepherd, or anything like that, they're all ruled out at least until I have children of my own and they are old enough to handle such a dog. Even then I will be SO careful with the breeder I chose - Lilys breeder has a known bad reputation of her dogs, one other particular dog in Lilys line of breeding also turned human aggressive for no apparent reason what so ever, and I've heard storys about her going out for the day and her dogs killing each other :o But one bad experience is not enough to rule out dogs altogether, just to be a bit more wary of lines and even breeds. Boxers are a great breed, but if you look at their history they are bred to guard, and that requires some amount of dominance and aggression. Beagles on the other hand, are bred to follow thier nose. I know a lot of beagles and they are all top dogs that wouldn't hurt a fly :D

What an angel
One problem though- he spins around and lays down facing me. :-? How can I get him to stop that?
That all depends on how you train him  If you clicker train him, thats easy, just highten the criteria for him dropping how he is until he is doing it how you want him to. If you use any other method of training, sorry, I can't help! :o With the bow, that is one thing that is SUCH a cute trick, but I don't think I'll teach it to one of my dogs ever again. Montie is pretty good with his drops, but if he's not comfortable on the surface he's on he'll just do a bow. Also, because it was the first trick I shaped when ever he's not sure what to do he just runs around bowing at everybody. Its very cute, but makes it hard to shape anything else. For example, I've just taught him to "talk" on command - because he was bowing when he started whining and I clicked and treated, he now thinks that "talk" means "bow and squeak" or "bow and sneeze"... I must admit, its very cute

Is it impossible that there has been a gene mutation to produce merl pits? Well I don't know if they are pure or not, but I do know one thing... and that is that they are absolutely adorable! That top male in the males page, what a stunner! I'd take him home any day  CKMILK, they are what you call "disigner breeds", by definition (well my definition anyway, correct me if I'm wrong!) they are just mutts with a fancy name and a heap of labels slapped on them so that the breeders can make a fortune. Breeders pretend they know what the pups will turn out to be, which is why there is a line up of them at every shelter, because they came with a list of promises which they didn't live up to. Poor darls
-
I probably would have reacted exactly the same way. Its so frustrating when they turn the deaf ear, and all you can do really is get them back on that chain and away from what they are after. Just remember when he's off lead to do plenty of recalls just to give him a treat, a good bit of chicken usually does the trick, at least then, although there are still exeptions, they are less likely to turn a deaf ear on you when its important. I agree with you on the cat thing. Cats are the biggest disease spreaders, they roam from yard to yard spreading fleas and parasites, pooing in peoples gardens and harrassing their dogs. We've always had cats, they have done exactly the same as everyone elses cats, only because mum didn't want them as indoor pets. That being said I'll be getting a Devon Rex of my very own in about a year, but only when I am settled somewhere and can afford to build a cat run, so that it can be an indoor pet, yet have access to its own bit of the outdoor world, where it can't kill wildlife, harass dogs or spread disease.

I know, I'm a sucker  Well we had our little picnick, it was very nice - Montie didn't like his cake though! Thats ok, we ate it all for him
-
Well its a good thing then that drool doesn't phase me. I actually find it very lovable! Lily used to drool everywhere, I loved it. Call me crazy, each to their own :-?

After posting yesterday dad and I took Montie for about a 10km walk along the beach. We found an off leash dog beach, so Montie did laps in the sand and went rock hopping. He loved every second of it. By the time we got home I practically had to drag him up the stairs though, he was so exhausted. Its his birthday today!!! I think he wanted to sit on the beach and watch the sun rise for his birthday, he woke me up at 6am so I got out of bed and we walked to the beach and sat on a rock and watched the sun rise. On the way back we came across a lovely woman who fell in love with him. She said "oh, I have got just the thing for you!!!" and pulled a chicken out of her bag! :o Montie gobbled up some tasty bits of chicken that she gave him and then didn't want to say goodbye! Then we came home, went back to bed and slept in  I got him prawns for breakfast, he loved them - I got a little jealous though because they looked so good and I wanted one, but I only bought enough for him! We're going to the off leash dog beach to have a picnick at lunch time. I know he'll love that too. He's a very spoilt dog, he knows I love him

DON'T ENCOURAGE ME!!!!   Thats the last thing I need!!!!! lol, I just can't handle the yerning! I told Josh about it, I told him that one day when we are rich and live in a mansion and need a good guard dog I will get one  This dog show I'm going to when I get my pup will be a challenge for me

Bringing home a new puppy.....( or dog)
Aroura replied to Queen Bitch's topic in Everything about dogs
Sounds like we're all getting pups about the same time, this will be fun! We can start a "Virtual Puppy Pre School" -
getting a new puppy please help me with what i need to get
Aroura replied to CKMILK's topic in Everything about dogs
Glad to hear you've got the camera ready! You'll be getting your pup at the same time I'll be getting mine! I agree Beatrice is a nice name for a Beagle. We have a lab called Belladonna, Donna for short. I also like the name Bess :D -
For years I've been wanting a Neopolitan Mastiff. At long last I came to the conclusion that they were too big and heavy boned for me - being someone who loves long walks and doing agility with my dogs. But I've had a relapse!!! I went to the shops yesterday and guess what? There was a Neo tied up out the front!!! :o :o :o How unfair to me to have to see that lovable dog  Now I want one more than ever. I walked up and patted it, it had beautiful grey eyes and was so placid, it snuggled right in and drooled all over me, saturating my pants and making my hands all slimy. I'm in love. One day, I will own one of my own
