Well Guest, its a damn good job you posted before i did.....otherwise you would have had some stick!

I got it in one :)....cute pup...seeing that Bullmastiff, for a minute i thought i was looking at my Charlie, that dog looks so much like my boy. :D K. That is how Bullmastiffs should look like, although you do come across some that look like Mastiffs and Bulldogs....in which those 2 breeds where used to create the Bullmastiff originally...if nobody knows.

Hi Mei Mei. I think a lot of people use cheese, however mine have ham

My puppy recently started her heat phase......
Shannon_C replied to a topic in Veterinary information
Kandy. Take her to your vet for a health check, its possible she could have worms, your vet will prescribe you with these. As for her heat, she may well be ready to be spayed....she is at the right age now! Good Luck! -
So what? dogs are and can be allergic to Brewers Yeast thats a fact not an anectdote. Garlic does nothing except make a dog stinky and perhaps gassy. Feeding a complete diet is far better than feeding cheap food and stuffing in supplements IMO. One should be aware of what one may be doing before just shoving something in a dog that it really doesn't want to eat.
Guest, are you for real or what ? (what does so what suppose to mean) ? I feed my dogs a good healthy diet of Wafcol 'thankyou', that as no wheat, added dairy products, or meat, with that they have a mixture of fruit and vegetables (you going to tell me they are bad for dogs too) ?....garlic does smell but it is very good for them.....many vets supply tubs of it! And no my dogs are not gassy, at least they havent been since garlic as been added to there diet. And for fleas and bugs, its the next best thing to many products you see on the market, which are useless for many large breeds!

Guest, dogs cannot pick up worms from just being round other dogs, only fleas can be passed on. Im sure Aroura knows what she is doing on that part!
-

ignore my terrible muddled up attempt and spelling chihuahua... such a strange word to type!!!
Its Puddle's house and she does not want to share. Why not find someone who can cope with her and maybe find her people instead of upsetting both dogs. The neutral territory is for introducing two dogs and you are already past that point. I say at least use a baby gate to seperate them to keep the new dog safe from the current one and also to keep the current one from picking anything more up from the one you found (like fleas or worms or...)
Guest, if you find it hard answering to reasonable questions...why post ? cause you seem to just be here to tell others what to do or not to do and its not nice. This forum is about helping and giving out advice to those who need it, and personally Aroura is only trying to do what is right for both her dogs and i think its so nice for Buffy to have found someone who cares about her, most would have not took Buffy in, she would have been left outside to defend for herself. People should be encouraged to do what is right tov help there pets, not told the opposite (like let someone else have the dog who can cope) Aroura did not say anything about not coping, she said she wanted to know how to bring the dogs up together!

Guest i have never had any problems with my dogs having Vetzmye tablets and garlic, (in fact they are very healthy since they have been on it) many breeders i know....feed it there show dogs, as long has they dont have too much...it cannot harm them.
-
To K. While we are on the topic about neautering, my Bullmastiff had the same problem with one testicle, that was still up in his scrotum.....i was also advised to get him neautered also, due to any problems that may occur later on. He as just turned 3 years, and i had him done last September! Hamrhedd it should not matter, most females are allowed to be done before there first season, so i cannot see a problem in males....its true what people say about most vets.....they are just after the money! If your vet is telling you different, then change to someone else.

RedHotJen. I dont want you to think im imposing, but as you may well know (the Bullmastiff is a breed that i really, truly adore) and i only want the best for this very special breed of dog...as so many go to irresponsible homes, because people dont research the breed well first etc. I recommend people do there homework before they decide to own a Bullmastiff, as its a big commitement which will last 10 years or more...depending on the health of the breed. Have you owned dogs before, if yes what breeds ? Do you know much about the Bullmastiff ? If you would like me to talk in private, please let me know! Thankyou!

Aroura. Your best bet would be, to put Buffy in a crate, so that Puddles can see her, this way no harm will come to the dog.....leave them together so they can get to know each other, it might take time but be patient. (there will be some jealousy with a new pet around, especially 2 females) but the key is to be firm, if need be at times.....being too soft with Puddles will only see herself as getting all the attention, rather than both....you can also try putting Puddles on the lead, so if she does try to bite Buffy, you have some control (use the word no in a harsh voice), everytime she tries to bite Buffy, in time she will learn to except her new house mate. When i first brought Charlie (the Bullmastiff) who is 3 years old into the house, when he was a puppy' my dogs who are now a 6 year old Border Collie mix and a 13 year old Westie mix, they wasnt excepting him...there were growls coming from Patch, the Westie ....but everytime i used the word no he started to change, and by the time Charlie was 12 weeks old, Patch was beginning to except him. You have to be there all the time, and seperate them both when your not.

My Bullmastiff is the only one who as been chipped, i know full well that he would be the first to be picked up if he ever were to get out, or stolen because he is a Pedigree (which in this case many dogs who are stolen are never returned) sad as it seems but its so true (chip or no chip)...and those people who steal them are the ones who would use this breed and many others for fighting but would be impossible to breed from mine because he as been neutered. The only time my dogs are left is when i have to go to work....but in any case the house alarm is always on, and we live on a quite estate where neighbours are always watching. However when we are at home, the dogs are watched often when there in the garden with the door open, so they can go in and out....the Bullmastiff prefers to be inside than out though lol. My other two dogs which are a Border Collie mix and a Westie mix are not chipped, neither are the cats....but they are not stupid enough to go to any tom dick or harry, the Border Collie is weary of strangers and she would bite if anyone were to use force to try and catch her, she is a very quick girl...so they would not stand a chance with her and as for the Westie, he would snap too. I know many of you will be saying (there is a way to get round it, when a thief wants something) but with my dogs, there as to be trust...if someone were to feed my dogs poisonous meat....they would turn there nose up at it because its not coming from the hand that feeds them. Dogs are not stupid, they are very intelligent animals! However i hope that all of you and others in the world, dont have it happen to your dogs.

Underdog. duct tape is very strong and very sticky, so no it wont come off easy...its great for holding down Bullmastiffs ears!

The cartilage in a Bullmastiff puppy's ears is very pliable. Sometimes during the rapid growth stage and teething, the ears will either ''rose'' (the ear folds back to reveal the inside) like a Bulldog's ear or ''fly'' (the ear stands up at the base but folds over at the tip) like a Whippet or Greyhound's ear. Neither is correct for the adult Bullmastiff, but often the ear will resume its proper carriage as the teething stage is passed. Other puppies must have their ears taped to encourage the ear cartilage to fold in the proper manner. It must not be allowed to stay folded incorrectly, as this greatly detracts from the overall appearance. A roll of duct tape, rubbing alcohol and scissors are all that is needed to tape the ears. Inspect the puppy's ears to make sure they are clean and free from of infection or mites. Then clean the inside and outside of the ear with alcohol. This is to remove the natural oil, which might prevent the tape from sticking to the ear. Duct tape (so named because it is used for taping the joints of air conditioning ducts) is normally found in three-inch widths. You will need to use half that width. Tear off or cut six strips that are one and one-half inches wide and are one inch longer than the puppy's ear (measured at the forward edge). Place a strip on the inside forward edge of each ear, allowing the extra inch of tape to hang down. Now place another strip of tape along the outside forward edge of each ear, also with an inch of tape extending off the tip of the ear. Press together the sticky sides of the one-inch strips. Fold one ear properly, and attach another tape strip to the underside of the tab hanging from the tip of that ear (the sticky side will be facing out, not touching the dog's hair). Holding that ear folded properly, fold the other ear and run the tape strip under the dog's chin, attaching it to the underside of the tab on the other ear. The ears should now be pulled down and held just tightly enough that the cartilage fold is in the proper place. Attach the remaining strip of tape on the outside of the tape strip running under the chin, to reinforce the tape and to cover up the sticky side. Leave the ears taped for about one to two weeks. Then gently remove the tape and clean the ears. Observe the ear carriage for 24 hours. If the ears remain folded properly, they will not need re-taping. If the ears return to their previous position, repeat the taping as necessary until the ears are carried properly. Good Luck' with your ear taping!

Cropping Ears, Cutting off Tails WHY?
Shannon_C replied to GizmoRedNosePit's topic in Veterinary information
RedHotJen. You have the right site then lol, my site is just photos...I could refer you to other sites though...What kind of Mastiff is your aunt looking for ?....there are various Mastiff breeds you see! Jacsmom, i dont have a clue what other giant breeds were used for, but i do know that Bullmastiffs were bred for catching poachers, when there masters got burgled on there estate, so the dogs would catch and hold down there thieving victims to the ground, without savaging! -
Oh and the Bullmastiff loves those brewers yeast tablets, he eats them like sweets lol (yuk) they are very good for dogs, he also as garlic once a day with his food....also very good and healthy for there skin....keeps the bugs at bay too. Depending on your dogs size, he would only need a little if he is small/medium in size, where as a giant like mine need more!

Donna, When i have to give my dogs pills, i put them (one at a time) between a slice of ham, fold it over twice then pop it in there mouth, (well saying this it works with my Bullmastiff) cause he tends to swallows things he likes, so ham is nothing to him...its gone in a second, but with the smaller breeds, they almost know straight away and spit them out lol. Another way, is to crush it then mix in with there food. Good Luck!

That site is Great. I am so glad there are kind, loving, people out there who really appreciate how much hard work these dogs have to do, in there everyday lives searching for people! 'Its a gods send to so many'!

To Guest, thanks for that i will have to try it, unless its only available in certain countries....I have saved it in my favourites anyway, so i can take a look from time to time!

Im no expert on Akitas, but i do know they need worming regulary, like other breeds. Puppies tend to eat an awful lot, and coming back for more when they have worms....now this isnt a problem, you can get either tablets or paste from your vet who should explain...if he doesnt then hes not much of a vet is he...personally i should change your vet to someone else who knows about what animals needs are. There is a Akita owner that comes here, perhaps you could have a word with them.

Cropping Ears, Cutting off Tails WHY?
Shannon_C replied to GizmoRedNosePit's topic in Veterinary information
My question is, if the reason for docking dogs tails is so they dont get them trapped in doors etc....Why are certain breeds like the Mastiff, Bullmastiff and other giant breeds not cropped ? I know that its never been done with breeds who dont hunt, only those who used to like Pointers, Dobermanns etc (working in fields), but thats history so why do it now ? -
Good heavens above Tyla :). I wished i had 9 Bullmastiffs running around my home, (it would be fun) :P ...but :( to say...we havent the room for any more dogs at the moment, maybe in a few years time....we will be looking at getting another 2 Bullmastiffs (both female) a fawn and a nice brindle if we can get one. My husband wanted an Akita, but i said who is going to groom him....he soon changed his mind  I think Akitas have adorable black mask faces, they come in beautiful colours :) i also love there curly tails.
