Guest Anonymous Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Does anyone know of any Kromfohrlander breeders in the U.S. or where to purchase these dogs? Quote
imported_Matty Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 I don't know of any. Are they not a newer breed? you may have to ship one overseas. Quote
Aroura Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 Just curious, what made you choose that breed? Considering how rare they are it can be hard to find a breeder, you will probably have to travel for it, possibly even have to import. Another thing you can do is contact breeders overseas and ask if they know of any breeders in the U.S. They may have imported to someone, or know of someone who has. Also contact your canine council, they should be able to help. Quote
imported_Kat Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 I've never heard of this breed before. Look just like a rather large JRT. Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 I have never heard of the breed Quote
3ofakind Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 Yeah really. What is the difference from a JRT? You should just get a JRT. Quote
imported_Debbie Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 Looks like a Parson Jack with a natural tail......... Quote
TDG Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 krommis are awesome, awesome dogs. :) you can't compare them to JRT's at all except for maybe in looks, since they do not have the terrier type prey drive and aren't as hyper. these dogs are not hunters, but bred as companion and house dogs, pretty low key and generally very reliable off leash and with small animals. they also do great in sports like agility and flyball. the kromfohrl Quote

imported_Matty Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 TDG, that is wonderful to have the terrier look without the terrier prey drive :D Debbie, typically JRT's have a high prey drive and were used for hunting. Of course most show types are watered down and not bred with the drive of their hunter counter parts. Any dog with a high prey drive can live with a cat or small pet, just because they have a high prey drive doesnt mean they are going to go around trying to kill all small animals :D BUT, and a big BUT here :D a dog with a high prey drive (bred to have the full series of prey sequences) can be more unrealiable around moving prey objects out side of their home. For instance most of my dogs with high prey drives have been wonderful and loving with my cats and rabbits and even out side the home they were wonderful with confident cats and other small animals. But, have the small creature run away, it automatically triggered predatory drift and led to the chase. Quote

I certainly won't argue that !!  Mine aren't show types, Sassy's parents were working terriers and Maisy's parents were raised on a horse breeding farm, Jacks are very big with the horsey set. Quote
TDG Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 [quote name='Debbie']From the info I read they are Terriers. I personally have 2 JRT's and they are NOT hyper. That's one big fallacy that stereo-types all JRT's.GRRR  Mine are also living in the same house with a cat and they groom each other.......JRT's also come in Rough,Broken, and Smooth with 2 different hair lengths. And they certainly are great companions and snuggle at every opportunity !! And JR's are very good at Agility, from what I have observed. And JRT's are AWESOME,AWESOME,AWESOME dogs too !!! debbie, they are not terriers. :) and don't get me wrong, i love JRTs too and own a JRT/mutt myself, but it's not the same thing at all. not even close. JRT's, and almost all other terriers, are bred to have a high prey drive and are working dogs with a precise purpose - hunting. kromfis were bred as a companion and house dog without this kind of prey drive and the typical terrier tenaciousness. i'm not saying that JRT's don't make good companions, or never get along with other small animals, or aren't good at agility. but as a JRT owner, you will agree with me that a JRT isn't a dog for everyone and that they have very specific needs which have to be met, or you will end up with a nightmare of a dog on your hands. i see the results of all those misconceptions about JRT's ending up in shelters in my area just because people think they are cute little lap dogs that are content to sit at home one the couch all day. typically these dogs are under 2 years old when people dump them at the shelters because they can't/don't want to deal with them. it's very sad. the kromfi isn't a working breed that requires lots of mental stimulation and exercise like for example a JRT or a border collie. even someone who has never owned a dog before and doesn't lead a very active life isn't going to feel overwhelmed. the bottom line is, don't compare a breed to another just because they look similar. it just doesn't make sense. i'm familiar with the kromfi since i lived in germany until 1999, i'm not just talking theory here. I guess I'm a Jack person, and am a little Lioness- like about my Grrlz and I won't ever be without one !!! Cheers !! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted January 1, 2005 Posted January 1, 2005 Hi, I know of a few breeders in the USA, I know there is a active one in Florida. Also, the breed is in the AKC's FSS stud books. If you go to www.ack.org you can find photos, breed info and I think the breeds club is listed there too. You go to "breeds" and find the "FSS"link and you'll know how to find the rest. Hope this helps Mary Chazmere Salukis Quote
imported_Kat Posted January 1, 2005 Posted January 1, 2005 Someone in England just got a Krom pup to do agility with so it could well be the start of the introduction of the breed to the UK agility scene! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 Hi, The web address in the previous post should be www.AKC.org (not ack) The dog that is listed in FSS, while also a strange name starting with "K" is a different breed from Spain. I became intreseted in the breed because I am looking for a dog for myself. I have actually never had a dog before and this breed seems ideal: works well with childeren & other dogs, easy training, low hair maintenance, works well in urban & rural areas, and can deal with the cold. Kromfohrlander also seem to have only one known medical problem, some inheritied stifle-joint disease. If anyone knows of a good breeder, I'd appreciate it if you'd pass their name on. Quote
TDG Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 vet2be, to the best of my knowledge there are no breeders in the US. i have heard of one shady business trying to sell grand griffon vend Quote
Kylecj Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 I live in the US and own one of these dogs, his name is Lucky and he is mine!! :x Quote
