Well, I don't have a GSD, but my daughter has a dog that loves his toys way too much as well. She just keeps the old needle and thread handy for the stuffies and only buys the hard plastic balls that that are big enough that he can't get his mouth around them to pop them.
As far as the stuffies are concerned we don't buy new ones, we frequent garage sales and get used ones that are a quarter or fifty cents a piece, he's just gonna shredd them anyway so why pay a lot for them.
She makes her own tug toys with roping and tennis balls purchased at the hardware store so they are very inexpensive and always has a basket full of injured woobies that need repair.
