1. Well, I took Scout to the groomer that I normally do and she fixed him so he looks A LOT better. He is still short, but at least he is short all over. I talked to the manager at the good location and she said she would talk with the other manager. She also said I wasn't the first to complain and told me that next time I brought Scout it they wouldn't charge me. Scout is still getting used to his short hair. He LOVES being outside and usually sits on our back porch all day. Kasey walked out yesterday and he was out there shivering. He brought him back in the kitchen and he just went right back out the doggie door. What a silly dog! I did go buy him a sweater to keep him warm. See? More money spent on this stupid incident.
2. Whatever the process, I think the dog needs to be out of that house. When we first got married, my husband brought home a beautiful Pit that he found at animal control. He was great for my husband, but everytime I went near this dog he would growl and show his teeth. I had a really bad feeling about this dog and did not trust him. I couldn't live with a dog that I was afaid to be alone with. I cried every night because I felt so bad, but I knew we could not keep this dog. What about when kids came over? Kasey finally found a single friend of his with a big yard, lots of time and no kids. The dog is doing great with him, but only because his new owner is not afraid and has worked A LOT with him. The point is that no one should ever be afraid in their own house.
3. Unfortunatly, I did pay for it. I was too angy and upset to pursue it at the time. The girl that did the cut was already being unreasonable and she would have gotten really bad if I complained too much. I did compain about the cut and made her fix a few things, but half way through I thought she was being to rough with Scout (who is perfectly behaved) so I went in and demanded that she give me my dog back. Thank goodness for those glass windows huh? He was shaking SO bad after that and came home and slept for the rest of the day. Poor little guy! I will send them a letter though. Good idea to use the other store as a reference. They love my dog and fight over who gets to groom him :D .
4. Oh, I am so mad! I took Scout to that one large pet store chain :) to get groomed on Saturday. I brought him into a different location because it was closer to my house. I have always LOVED the other location. They do a great job and they are SO nice to Scout. As soon as I brought him in, I had a bad feeling. We were on our way to a movie and if we weren't I would have walked right back out. I couldn't put my finger on it, but it was bad news. As you can see, in Scout's picture, his hair is pretty long, but I brush him about 15 minutes a day and condition it often. Yes, of course he gets little mats in it, but they are mostly just tangled because they get brushed out every day. Well, I went to go pick Scout up and the girl brought Scout out and he was SHAVED! She told me that it was cruel to let my dog's hair grow because it hurt him to be brushed (I guess that is why be gets his brush out of the basket and brings it to me everyday). She told me that he had mats in his hair and that she had to shave him because brushing them out would be cruel and abusive. I know she just screwed up and is trying to blame me for it. I brushed him the day before and he did not have one mat. Now some of his hair is shaved right next to the skin and some is an inch long. I don't even care about his cut I am just SO angry that she would acuse me of being cruel to my spoiled, pampered, loved puppy. I am of the opinion that you can keep a dogs hair long as long as you are willing to take on the grooming that goes along with it. Am I wrong? Sorry, this is so long.

Costco food?

Thanks for the info. I'll stick with what I've got.

Costco food?

I heard that the Kirkland brand food at Costco is made by a very good dog food company. Is that true? If it is, I want to switch Scout over because it is SO inexpensive, but I don't want to until I know for sure that it is a high quality food.
7. Best of luck!
8. We took Scout on a hike this weekend and he got a scrape on the inside of his leg where his hair is really fine. It kind of looks like it is infected and he will not stop liking it. I have been watching it closelyand I know dog's saliva is a natural antiseptic, but I am wondering if I could put anything on it to make sure the infection goes away. I have some hydrogen peroxide, could I put that on it?
9. To get Scout to take his antibiotics, I would put some kibble and shredded shredded cheese in the palm of my hand and mix it with the medicine (yeah, kind of gross). Then I acted like I was giving him a treat (I would make him sit, etc.). That is the only way I could get it in his mouth. He would scream and cry and bite if I just tried to squirt it in his mouth. I am not sure if it was the right thing to ado, but it worked.
10. Just wondering if this is ok. . . Scout and the new puppy Lizzy are BEST friends. They absolutly love eachother! However when they are playing, Lizzy nips at Scouts "beard" which must hurt, but he doesn't seem to care. They wrestle and chase eachother, but when Scout is done playing he sits on her or just lays down and squishes her so she can't move. I obvoiusly pull him off, but am wondering if dogs know what is too much for the other. Scout has an incredible temperment and seems to be very gentle with her since she is so much smaller. Just curoius how involved I should get in their playing. My husband tells me to let them work things out, but I son't want Scout to hurt her on accident.
11. To answer you question about little dogs deaming, Scout sure has them. He will cry in his sleep and he looks like he is throwing a tantrum with his from pays. He sleeps next to our bed, so I will just put my hand on his belly and he stops. It doesn't seem like it happens that often, but when it does it is several times during the night. It only happens at night not when he is napping.

How to stud
I watch so much animal planet that i don't need you to prove me wrong.
Ok, I am usually a very nice person, but I had to poke fun at this statement.
13. How old is the dog? The first thing that I would suggest to your friend is to leave for short periods of time (5-10 minutes). When she returns she should not pay any attention to the dog for a few minutes. Don't make coming and goings a big deal. Leave and come back quietly and don't make a big fuss over the dog.
14. My mother in laws dog was diagnosed with the same thing, but she was 14 years old, so they just decided to put her down. Best of luck to you! I am sure your dog will pull through.
15. Hmmm. . .that sure makes a lot of sense :(
16. My inlaws have a friend with a yorkie and before I got Scout neutered they kept asking me to let the two breed. I thought the same thing as you boosie, but she just kept saying "oh, they would be so cute! Little dogs are so popular right now, we could probably make a lot of money." Than she acted all disappointed when I neutered Scout. She is crazy! Good thing I already dislike her.
17. Ok, the votes are in and it is not a Christmas name! Drumroll. . .. Wendy decided to name her Lizzy. I think it fits her pretty well, but I really liked Noel and Holly best. Oh well, I guess that's what happens when you try to bring democracy to a family. Pictures are posted in the Pictures section. Go take a look and see if you think it fits.
18. Lots of Labs out west, too. Any kind of hunting dog seems to popular. Also, lots of yorkies recently.
19. Ohh, I like Holly and Noel. My mother in law wanted to name her Angel and everyone protested. That is why we are casting ballots tonight
20. I just talked to my mother in law with the new Bichon puppy. Tonight we are all going to dinner for my sister in laws birthday and we are voting on names for the puppy. She is a little white fluff ball and I imagine will be quite spoiled. She is kind of leaning toward Christmas names. Any suggestions?
21. Good for you for standing up for those puppies! You can be that if that lady didn't know $1000 was over the top fot a JRT, she has not done any research about the breed.
22. Ok, I know it is bad to get a puppy for Christmas, but hear me out for a second. My mother in law had to put her dog down on Christmas eve and has been talking to a Bichon breeder for about 9 months now (We call her the Bichon wizard -- she is awesome). Well, my father in law kept telling her that they were not going to get another dog, but somehow managed to get in touch with this breeder that his wife had been talking to. She was just about to breed another litter, so he put his name on the list, and played his wife along for months! She was so upset on Christmas because Molly had been put down and here comes her husband with the puppy. I did make sure that it was a quiet time after things had settled down. She is so cute and Scout LOVES her. Last night they both laid on my lap and shared a bone. Scout chewed on one end and the puppy chewed on the other. I have never seen a dog do that. It was adorable! I am so excited for them! They make great owners and I know that this dog could not be in better hands. Except that she might get a little spoiled :D . I post pics in the next couple of days.

Shampoo?

Any suggestions for a good shampoo for my shih tzu? He is black and white and when he gets home from the groomer his hair is bright white. My mother in law gave him a bath and he came out so fluffy and sooo soft. But she couldn't remember what kind of shampoo she had. She had used it on her dog and just poured it into a plastic bottle that she had at home. Does anyone know of anything that will brighten his white hair as well and make his soft and fluffy?
24. I love taking my dog for a brisk walk/jog. He is 7 months and does great, but we don't go too far. In Scout's training class, our trainer gave some very good advice. She said that you have to be fun to walk with. Talk to your dog, pat your let, and be encouraging. This works great for my dog. I never had a problem with pulling on the leash, I just couldn't get him to keep up. Not because he was tired, but because he was easily distracted. Carry treats and if your dog is doing well, pop a trear in his mouth. Make it fun! Good luck!
25. I think that is one of the funniest things I have ever seen! Those people deserve any money they make for being so creative!
