Yeah, and then once man starts interfering these natural dogs will be ruined. :(

Thanks for explaining that to me HF  I guess in my area it seems the Rottweilers and APBT's are being over bred and by what must be bad breeders. Not that the Pit that bit me was bred by a bad breeder, this dog was actually bred for a good temperment :o In my area I see too many ill tempered APBT's and Rottweilers which some belong to very nice people. I have a couple of Pits which live down the street and they are always bouncing off the windows in the home they live in. One of them even bit its own owner quite badly once. I guess I must be lucky in my area, the Labs, Shepherds and Goldens all seem to be pretty stable and all that I have met are really nicely tempered.

   That is way too funny!

I don't know where every one here lives or who is breeding the ill tempered Labs :o maybe they are not purebreds. I see that happen alot. People see a dog that looks some what like a Lab (very common look for a dog) and they say its a Lab when its not. Some thing like what the APBT goes through mistaken idenity. It seems every dog out there even when you go to a shelter is either Lab or Lab mix or Shepherd or Shepherd mix. In my area Lab's & Golden Retrievers are the nicest dogs. I don't think I have ever met a mean ill tempered Lab :o and I meet alot of dogs. They must be better bred in my area. It seems that we have thousands of them and a whole lot more of them than any other breed. I think the most aggressive and mean tempered dogs I have met have been APBT's and Rottweilers. I have a fear of APBT's ever since I was horribly attacked (and ended up in the hospital and endured many surgeries) and they pick up on my fear.
Since then she's resented me... She never listens to me and bites me etc. Since justin's been gone it's worse.
Just one thing dogs unlike humans do not suffer the same horrible emotions like resentment. They just don't think on that level. She may be missing her owner and not finding the structure that she is normally used to. I would take a good long look at how you are treating the dog. You might want to start implementing the NIFIL policy for both dogs. This helps form a bond with your dogs, believe it or not it has even helped dogs over come problems with fear phobias. I talked to a lady once who was convinced her dog was only into her spouse. Every time the spouse went away on business she had a horrible time with the dog. It took adavantage of the situation. Under neath it all the wife was in the state of mind thinking the dog was only her husbands dog and she sent off signals to the dog to keep away and to keep its distance. It sounds weird but true, we can make problems between us and our dogs without even knowing it. Take a look at the whole picture, are your trying to distance your self from your spouses dog. Maybe deep down inside you want the dog to stay loyal to your spouse? Stupid question, but I hada ask :D
-
Another really good idea is to practice the NIFIL policy. Have every one including your kids practice this policy.

What about a Bouvier des Flanders They have used this breed as a guide dog for the blind and it has a nice temperment. Im pretty sure This breed is also non allergic. They do require alot of grooming though, they basically have a simular look and coat of that of the Giant SchnauzerStandard. They are actually one of the breeds used to make the Giant Schnauzer.

One of my pooches will growl at if some one pats him on top of the head. The chest and stomach area he loves and thrives on. Some dogs just don't like some areas touched. I would almost say that the dog looks at your husband as a playmate and when the playmate gets out of line he lets him know. Basically showing his dominance to your hubby and letting him know what is off limits. I find most dogs love to have their belly area rubbed, by any one and every one :D they don't feel the need to protect the area by a fellow pack member as a well balanced pack is not going to hurt or harm another pack member. I would start having your hubby use the NIFIL policy to show buddy that he is higher in the pack status. If they dog has a problem with his belly being rubbed then perhaps he doesnt like it, or maybe he has a problem and a vet visit is in order. Also have your husband practice some obedience with him. Plus another thing is the whole getting into bed, you are there and so is buddy. Buddy may be sutely saying that he does not appreciate a lower member in bed with him and his leader (you).

By the way DivineOblivion19, I am not contradicting what you are saying :D :D I know you work in a vet office so I do not have your knowledge of different products. I just saw some good results.

I always have my heart worm test results back in a couple of hours. I have also seen alot of dogs that had scarcoptic mange and go in for too many skin scrapings and never turn up positive for the mange. They burrow so they are harder to detect. I have never heard any thing bad about revolution and have my dogs on it. Actually its kinda awful for a friend of mine. She went in for an exam for her dog as it was scratching and red etc. The vet did an exam & skin scraping, said it was allergies sent my friend home with hypo food and a big bill for a blood test to find out what the dog has allergies to and the dog got a shot of some thing. The dog was still in a horrible state, my friend took the dog back, another skin scraping and nothing. This went on, finally she got a second opionion and the other vet treated the dog for scarcoptic mange, I am sure they gave the dog revolution and the dog is 150% better.

You can also try dandelion root for indegestion problems. I give it to my dogs when they get the runs and it works great.
-
Oh and also sprinkle a little bit of ground flax seed on your frozen yogurt. It is simply the best treat.
-
One more thing about revolution. You would need a blood test done for heart worm before putting your pup on it.

I freeze my yogurt and eat it like ice cream. I don't know what the freezing would do to the bacteria, but, I would think it would perserve it rather than kill it. I will poke around a little and find out for sure what happens.

I had a problem with wellness the fish one. None of my dogs did very good on it. I still feed them wellness but now I feed them the other protein sources. Maybe you got a bad bag, maybe rancid? did you check the expiry date on the bag? from reading some past posts by TDG, I don't think its the protein thats the problem. TDG will be able to help you.

Isnt it bad to feed cod liver oil on a commercial kibble diet? I thought that an excess of vitamin A or is it D is very very bad for a dog. I think I read about that in the WDJ, they had an article which said that if you feed a home prepared meal its OK to give cod liver oil, but, a kibble diet can lead to dangerous over abundance of the vitamin D or A. I can't remember which

Aroura, here is an old post on canned foods on this forum. http://forum.dogomania.com/viewtopic.php?t=10621

Sounds serious to me, I would take the dog to another vet. Me, I get very frightened of things like cancer.
Canned food is not that great for dogs, it wrecks havock with the digestive system.
I read in the WDJ that canned food is much better for your dog than kibble. It goes through less processing and contains far less additives and chemicals than kibble. I feed canned food all the time to my dogs and I have for ever since I got my first dog. They all love it and never had I had a dog get digestive problems from it. The only digestive problems I had was when a certain food didn't agree, like I feed wellness, solid gold and innovia, my dogs cannot stomach the fish variety of the wellness but do great on all the other protein types made by the same company. Why not feed a variety to your Dogs diet. I rotate between a few kibbles and canned foods. I also feed my dogs slightly steamed veggies mixed with steamed meats. Some times I feed them raw meats with veggies, sardines with wild and brown rice and veggies, canned salmon, etc etc. For snacks I give them cut up peices of apple, banana, cantalope, strawberries, and other berries which I mix with yogurt, I give them cottage cheese and veggies, eggs. I also give them raw chicken necks and beef hearts, steamed liver, ox tails etc. variety is the spice of life for diet.

CGC testing question for breed specific test
imported_Matty replied to imported_Matty's topic in Everything about dogs
Thanks every one for your answers, especially your sarahstaff. I have never done any CGC temp testing on my dogs. That is why I found it strange about my friends dog passing and still having the tendancy to be aggressive. He is only aggressive when things arent going his way. For obedience and agility he is great. -
Don't they swell up like that when they havent jabbed the needle in properly.

CGC testing question for breed specific test
imported_Matty replied to imported_Matty's topic in Everything about dogs
I would hate to see your friend judge a formal obeience competition. In obedience when judging you can't be harder on one dog more than another. If that was the case then all our judges would be crap including me!
The friend in question does not do his own temperment testing  the main reason I am asking if there is allowances for certain breeds is because I was attacked by one of his APBT's which passed the CGC with flying colors. The dog was very nice when things were going the dogs way but attacked me and lunged at a few other people. -
CGC testing question for breed specific test
imported_Matty replied to imported_Matty's topic in Everything about dogs
Yeah, but you have to take into consideration that only 4 dogs were tested. So 4/4 = 100%

I think that's utterly ridiculous, personally. All dogs should be held to the same standard. If someone's looking at a breed's temperament statistics to see which would be best in their family, they're not going to understand the differences. They'll see a Caucasian with 100% and think "Great, it's a guard dog and it's got a great temperament, maybe it'd be the perfect dog to protect me and my kids."
Mutts4me I guess I didn't read how many dogs were tested, and yeah, I just thought that it was great that the breed of dog like the Caucasian had such a wonderful temperment  I thought it was strange that such a breed did so well  I wonder if people will get mad at me for descriminating against this breed  they were bred for a purpose and I don't think the purpose was to be a lap dog  Mutts4me, I think the test scores are kinda misleading on this site I posted as well.
