Hey! Not all kids are evil! I'm 13 (dont know if that qualifies as a kid or not, but whatever...) and my dad leaves me "alone" in the petstore. I just have common sense! I always ask before petting someones dog and usually can tell when I'm buggin them.

Congrats on the new pup and welcome to Dogo! I cant help you about being nervous, cause i've never had a pup my self! I can help with the cats tho. Usually you should keep the dog with you (we kept Mocha on a leash for a while, so then she new who was in charge and also couldnt chase the cats) and monitor any interactions they have. Also, sometimes it takes a swipe to let the dog know whose in charge. One of our cats, Fritz, is very "alpha male" and so he had to give Mocha a swipe across the face so she wouldnt mess with him anymore. Just comfort the pup and also the cats. You see, our cats weigh 20 lbs a piece, so there was more likely hood of the dog getting hurt then the cats. One lady we talked to said not to keep the dog away from the cats, becuase they will become "suspicious" of the new furball in the house. We lured the cats into the room with cat treats and finished bowls of ice cream they could finish licking out  . About commuting, are there going to be more people there with you, or just you and the pup? I've heard that whosever lap the puppy rides home on, that will be "thier person" so to speak. Also, lots of toys and things to keep his little mind occupied and remember to stop for potty breaks often. How to post pictures: 1. Go to www.photobucket.com or anyother photo hosting site. Sign up. 2. Up load your pictures. 3. The URL will be displayed under the picture. Copy that. 4. click the "Img" button at the top of the composing screen, paste in the URL and then click the "Img" button again. Hope that helped! If you need any other help just PM me!

I read the article Matty posted and I remembered that the breeder lady I talked about before said that when you do the surgery that when you put food infront of themt thier eye starts to water because the saliva gland is drooling! Sorry, long run on sentence there.... :D

Uhm... Melanie, we havent gotten the dog yet, but now when one becomes available that suites us, we will. But thanks anyways! Oh yes, and say hi to Jake the monster springer for me
-
Mocha would always collect those around her eyes. I called them eye-boogers  and they were because of her allergies. A breeder of Springers who we talked to had a dog who had "Dry eye" and they would just have to put drops in the eye everyday, becuase the tear duct didnt function right. Doesnt really sound like Dry eye, but hey, I'm not a vet...

We just got the email that said that we've been approved to adopt a Springer from MAESSR! :beerchug: Now we just have to wait until they decide on the perfect dog for us. Hum Dee Dum. :eviltongue: In case you have no idea what I'm talking about, look at "It's been a month" in this section and you'll get it. I am so happy! Ok, just wanted to share the great news!!!! Oh ya, and congrats to K on getting the doggie (in 11 weeks, I have no idea how I would make it that long!!!) :banan:

I think Mocha had some Hot Spots then.... They were all oozy and the fur was just fallin out, and then they got all crusty. Once she was on her allergy medicine they cleared up and the fur grew back just purdy

I was one the HART website and found this cutie (interesting description though...) Age: 3 years Gender: Male Breed: short haired golden retriever J Size: 55 lbs Dog Friendly: For short periods but prefers to be an only dog Cat Friendly: No Hi, I'm Bishop, the short-haired golden retriever! I may look like an American Staffordshire terrier mix, but that's just my disguise. Underneath, I'm pure golden retriever. Don't believe me? I'll prove it! Just listen to my description: I'm a happy, friendly boy with a big, beautiful smile. I love to play and my favorite game is fetch -- I'm a fetchin' fool! Kongs, tennis balls, you name it. I'll keep retrieving my kong toy as long as you keep throwing it! When you get tired, we can go inside and you can relax on the couch to rest your arm. I'll hop up and snuggle next to you (in fact, I will probably want to be right in your lap!). I'll gaze at you adoringly and give you gentle, enthusiastic doggy kisses to show you how much I love you and how happy I am just to be with you. I'm very smart and I would love for you to teach me tricks and commands because I want so much to please you. I love people, so I just know I'll like all your friends - especially if they throw my kong for me! See? Big, handsome, friendly, affectionate, smart, loves to play fetch - that's me, Bishop, the short-haired golden retriever!

Cairn- Yes, I am looking for a English Springer Spaniel. It was amazing to find one in the pound, and we fell in love with the breed. The big brown eyes, the little wagging stub tail, and the best "Velcro Dog" ever.
-
Abker- I dont live in VA, but I live in MD, in the Washington DC area. Schipps- OMG! If you do adopt her  be sure to stop by for a visit!
-
There is an ADORABLE Springer/Lab/Beagle (supposedly, I just see Springer) mix on petfinder that is deaf. I would get her in a heartbeat but my dad says no 'cause we're working w/ MAESSR at the moment :x But anywhoo... DAL and DivineOblivion19, you guys should look at her, she's a cutie! If only you lived in VA... http://www.aforeverhome.org/default.asp?id=AvailDB1&PageNum=3

Thanks Mutt_Lady, and you can be sure to hear about updates! We got an email yesterday from Joan saying that our application wasnt lost, but the approver-lady was on vacation the last week so she had some catching up to do. She said we should be getting the OK anyday now. And were hopin the dog'll be comin soon after that  !

i think we agree its a chihuahua of some sort. what a cutie! :iloveyou:
-
OK, I've seen a Shiba Inu at the pound (it was sad tho, he had his backleg broken as a pup and now it was all deformed and he couldnt use it) and a Polish Lowland Sheepdog, i dont know if a Newfie would be considered rare or not , but i've seen one of those, a Skipperki (dont think i spelled that rite) and thats it. Which of those are actually "rare"?
-
I'd say get him a new kitty. Maybe that would cheer him up a bit and let him eat.
-
Thanks everyone for your replies. THe thing is, that with MAESSR, you fill out an app to even get consider for being a possible adoptee, and then you will get notified when there is a dog that would be well suited for you. Why does it have to be so darn complicated!!!
-
I call it "HEY KIDS! You have some work to do!" Then I point at the back door and out the go Hubby calls it mowing the lawn....cause that's how he does it...ugh
:roflt:

Wow :o ! Three weeks for the whole she-bang! My goodness! We dog-sat for our friends last week, but it was odd, cause we kept calling her Mocha. But it kind of sunk in the fact that we arent gonna get a dog the exact same as Mocha. That stinks but its life.
-
Since Mocha died  .... oh tomarows gonna be hard. We still dont have a dog. Darn the stinkin adoption process. We put in an application for MAESSR but the people havent written back to us to tell us we've been aproved. Joan, the lady we've been communicating with, said that we should expect it Monday the earliest, so I was thinkin like Tuesday, Wednesday, but its almost Friday and still no reply! UGH!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, needed to vent a bit  Oh if only I was old enough to drink :drinking: Just kidding! Any tips on what to do while we wait? Also, if anyone has been through the adoption proscess with a rescue organization, how long did you have to wait for a reply? I know that all groups are different, but I just want an estimate....

oh darn i missed it!!!

Just when I think I've seen it all...
MATERIAL PROVEN IN GULF COMBAT! LIVES DEPEND ON IT!
Ok, they go on to explain that it was for protecting soldiers from nerve gasses. But i mean come on, i can see the headlines now: "Flatulence Deodorizer Saves 11 Lives in Gulf Combat" lol -
Well, the only one i've had is a Springer and thats all i want now! Ok, i just added this- I love springers, but I would love to have and Irish Setter, Pembroke welsh corgi, or a Boxer.
-
i'd say English Springer Spaniels and Irish Setters. Or Pugs. Or Papillons. Or Old English Sheep Dogs. Or Mastiffs. Or Bulldogs. Or Bernese Mountain Dog. Or Australian Shepard. O dear why do they all have to be so beautiful? :-? But, I mean, how is this not the most beautiful dog in the world: Note: Not my Springer, image found from Yahoo search. My pics wouldnt do the breed justice
