We've got at least 14 inches here, maybe more! After rescuing about half a dozen ill-fated drivers and digging out cars and sidewalks, Ilsa got to have some fun! (NOTE: I've edited out the flexi in some shots, since it got in the way.) Local groomer charged with neglecting his OWN dogs
SizzleDog replied to Horsefeathers!'s topic in Grooming
Actually, I've known a couple groomers with "secret lives" as collectors. I worked for one - this person was one of the best groomers in the city, but their own animals suffered. -
The #1 breed that fits this thread... AFGHAN HOUNDS! For as long as I can remember, my heart has said, "Yes! Yes!", and my brain has retorted, "NO! Crazy woman, do you want to killyourself? Nooo!" Afghans are, im my mind, one of the most beautiful breeds in existence. They are elegant to the extreme, which is something I prize in a dog - heck, it's what I love about dobes! BUT - the coat, the "holier than thou" attitude, and did I mention the coat? Too much for me, thank you very much.

Yes, dobes do get grey in their old age - well, actually trheir rust markings just lighten a lot - almost to a cream. Another bit of bad news - I found out today that Ilsa's grandpa has prostate cancer, which is a common problem with older, unneutered dogs. This morning there was a masty rumor going around that he was already dead, but I know for a fact that the old dude is still alive, but isn't feeling too good. Poor dogs - this isn't what I wanted as a Christmas present... -

Mei-Mei... better get on the waiting list, these pups were sold before they were even concieved! Heee, they're just adorable. Seriously, I kept getting this overwhelming desire to just put one in my coat... nah, the breeder wouldn't even notice if one was missing - it was a big litter! -
Ilsa, Ginna, and Mia went to visit their original momma today - yup, we loaded the girls in the car to go see their breeder! There's good news and bad news. Bad news first - it looks like Ilsa's grandma (Paige) probably has bone cancer. She's 11, which is a nice age for a dobe, but we're all heartbroken, and we're hoping for the best. Our breeder didn't want to know until after Christmas - what a way to ruin the holiday, eh? Soooo... since today was possibly the last time we'd ever see Paige again ( ) , I was sure to take lots of photos and give her lots of hugs and kisses. I also snuck her a piece of freshly baked banana cake... shhhh.... Anyway, here are some of those priceless photos of Ilsa with her grandma: And now one by herself... And one with her daughter, Mattie. Mattie is Ginna's mom. Now for the GOOD news! Ilsa has 10 new cousins! Ready for lots of super cute puppy pics?
Do your Dobie's always come up to you and rest their chin on you and gaze at you like that when they want attention?
ALL the time! You should see her beg at the dinner table!

teehee... They were staring at a scotcheroo that I was holding... you know, those peanut butter/sugar/corn syrup rice krispies treats covered in melted butterscotch and milk chocolate chips? Now you understand why they were staring at the camera with such a sense of longing...

Thought you'd all like to be oogled by a pair of lovely Dobermans...

Yes, her dam (Kona) was a bit on the large size too - she got it from Demand, her sire... Demand is a big boy too! The standard says bitches 24-26 inches, dogs 26-28 inches. However, most Dobermans in the ring today are a bit larger than the standard, especially the males. A male doberman should look like a stallion!
-
courtnek - Yes, Crusier is known as the big red boy... he's about 29" at the shoulder and about 85-90lbs... about the same size as Ilsa. He's a large boy, but it hasn't hurt his show career as of yet! And nope - Ilsa's spayed, so no showing for her!
-
Nope, I wasn't there - a good friend informed me of his winning yesterday, and I was on Cloud Nine!
-
Soooo proud... last weekend, Ilsa's daddy took BIS at the Starved Rock Kennel Club show in Wheaton, Illinois under judge Ralph Ambrosio.... GO CRUISER!
I would be willing to give it a whirl on my dobes.
I wouldn't. Ilsa was on it for awhile when my vet stopped selling Natura products... I've never seen Ilsa's coat so bad. It was literally a dark *fawn* because her coat was so bad. I do use the rolls for training though - they give her gas, but I can live with that! Here's an example of how bad her coat got on Natural Balance: And here she is, back on a Natura food:

I know that Linn and Story counties in Iowa don't require licensing - they don't even have the option available! You technically need to have your rabies tags on your pets at all times, but that rule isn't enforced much, if at all. BTW - here's Iowa's standard license plate: Here are the custom plates available: There are tons more, but they're all just as lame as the ones pictured above. ;)

Ilsa gets daily offleash time in the mowed field across the street frommy house. It's far away fromt he street and separated by trees and a huge parking lot, so it's quite safe. Technically there's a leash law, no no one in the neighborhood follows it when it comes to using the field!

Many celebs buy dogs (rotties and dobes) from Kimberhell... oops I meant Kimbertal, my mistake... It never ceases to amaze me how some celebs can just go out and buy dogs from terrible places. One thing that really bothered me was when there was that episode of Queer Eye where Jai was helping the straight guy with his dog. Jai started plattling on about his "teacup yorkie"... ugh. It was obvious that Jai really loved his dog, but the fact that he was calling it a teacup really bothered me.

Narrowed it down to 2 breeders - your oppinions please?

I like the looks of the Boxberry dogs, but I really like the fact that the other breeder is actucally a boxer judge. Flying Dutchman looks like he's about to fall over (bad stacking)! The Boxberry dogs ahve great muscle tone - some have so much that it makes them look faulty (broken toplines, unbalanced, etc.) Tough call... -
Very cool! I'm so glad they finally fixed it! There's one more Dogster page that is using a popular calendar photo as their dog's photo, but since that Chapion isn't related to my girl (as Hawk and Mary were) I'll let someone else find that one and report it!
-
I've emailed them numerous times - they're never replied.
-
Here are the links, BTW: http://www.dogster.com/pet_page.php?i=36194&j=t&t=t http://www.dogster.com/pet_page.php?i=36195&j=t These two dogs are NOT Fran's Red Hot Chili Pepper or Fran's Little Ladybug. They are CH. Marienburg's Sun Hawk CD (#1 dobe in 1975-76, sired over 85 champions, and took BOB twice at the DPCA nationals) and his daughter, CH. Marienburg's Mary Hartman (a 44 all-breed BIS winner, took group at Westminster, was the #1 Dobe in 1978, and took BOB at the DPCA Nationals two years in a row). Grrrr, it makes me mad - please help me get Hawk and Mary's photo off Dogster!

Arrrgh, I wish they'd respond to my complaint on a similar ofense. A photo of my dog's grandsire is being touted as someone's pet. It's a stolen photo (yet very well known) - it's not very nice (or honest) to steal a photo of a famous show dog and call it your own pet.
