  1. I wanted to attach a picture of her but it won't let me. I guess there is a trick to it.... I will keep you posted.
  2. You all pretty much confirm to me what I have been thinking. I will actually try a couple of more things. First medication. They had something on TV about K-9 disorder signs. The dog they talked about had almost all the same signs and after taking Anipryl for two weeks he was back to normal. I also got an appointment today with a specialist. May be she a brain tumor and it can be removed. I am not trying to torture her but I have to try everything possible. She deserves it. I found her and she protected me for 8 years. After today and may be a few more days of medication I will make my decision!!!!!! Thanks for the support.
  3. I have a 12-13 year old Boxer. She was perferctly fine up to 6 weeks ago. Then she started to change fast. By now she is blind on one side. Turning in circles to see where she is. Disoriented. Walks into things. Restless. She follows me everywhere and walks around all night. She pees in the house sometimes not knowing what she is doing. She does not remember what she did 2 seconds ago. I had her blood checked. Everything looks great. I am so scared. How much does she actually know now? Remember? Recognize? How can I help her? I don't want to lose her.........
  4. When I lost one of my dogs a while back (I will soon get to that point again) I watched "All dogs go to heaven 2". May be it's just me but it helped a bit. Now, I always think about my kids playing up there and having fun. Nothing will take the pain away but a little help is always good. Just a thought......hang in there.
  5. That is crazy. People like to make an easy bug and he will make people sue that were probably bitten because they did something to a dog. What can we do? Write him emails and lock up his computer? That just puts such a bad light on dogs. He is probably one of those people that would sue McDonalds for making him gain 2 pounds!!!!!
  6. I paid the same for the 3 year rabies shot than for the one year shot. I also asked my vet and he said that it is exactly the same. I believe that doctors want to make money like everybody else. Now the shots will be done every three years so they may up the price. Hey, I pay three times as much for medication at a specialist right now than the same medication cost me two months ago at the regular vet. Is that fair? No, but they can do it because I need to take him there right now.
  7. Thanks for the links. I realy do believe that vaccinations are not needed every year. Here in Texas they changed rabbies to every three years (one year ago). Up North it has been 3 years since a long time. WHY? It is the exact same shot. One other interesting thing for me was......I went to the same vet for 4 years and only had to give my dogs the parvo vaccination once a year. I moved and all often sudden I got a notice for a parvo booster every 6 months. I ignored the reminder.
  8. I had it done at my vet's office and it did take 10 days. They have two doctors. One thought it was and is a great idea and she is glad that I went for it. The other one said he does not believe in it. My dogs are old and my Boxer just became senile. I do not want extra stress on their system.
  9. As far as I know.........the vaccination makes the body build up antibodies for let's say Parvo and distemper. When the antibodies wear off you need to vaccinate again. The titer test checks how many antibodies are still in your dogs blood and the ratio tells you if it is still enough to keep him healthy. Obviously my Boxer is way above the needed ratio which tells me that she may not need another vaccination for a couple of years. The vet wants to see my Mix in 6 months for the distemper though.
  10. Just an interesting experience. I gave my dogs the titer test for Parvo and distemper for the first time last week to see if they need to be vaccinated this year. I read so much about how bad it may be for them. Here is the interesting part. A ratio of 1:36 or higher for distemper indicates probable protective immunity. My Boxer had a ratio of 1:2048 - yes that is correct. My Shepherd Mix had 1:128. Then the ratio for Parvo should be over 1:64. Again my Boxer has 1:2048 and my Mix 1:1024. That means I will not give them any shots this year and I am happy about it.
  11. First time I saw a Boxer with floppy ears I thought - weird, funny. Now I am used to it and I like it. Europe does not even allow it anymore and people are fine with it now (not everybody but it is getting there). We think a dog needs to look a certain way because that is how we see it all the time. But I always say - if you don't like it don't get it. I still don't think that PETA should waste their money and time on this. They should concentrate on people that abuse and torture animals. And I sure don't think that ear cropping and tail docking falls into that category.

My friend has a Pit from the SHELTER. She is a great dog and gets along with ALL dogs. He also has a Rottweiler and a 100 pound mix breed. The three play all day. I have a Shepherd mix and a Boxer. All 5 get along great. I can take her anywhere. I go to the dog park and see many Pits playing with other dogs. I think it is mostly how you raise them. Yes it is somewhat genetic and you always have to be aware of their power. BUT by keeping them away from other dogs because something might happen - something will happen the first time they are around other dogs. There are never guarantees - even with a Lab!!!!!
