  1. They are beutiful dogs. I was a picture of them for the first time about a month ago. They are gorgeous. I'm glad you finally found one.
  2. I have a Labrador/Pointer mix....LOVE HIM TO DEATH... I wish I also had a femal Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that is Tri color in color, but I don't want another dog for a while. One is enough for me.
  3. I'm 14 and I own my own dog (he was the families and he was given to me since I do everything including paying vet bills, buying food, walking him, etc.) I have a very open schedule...I am homeschooled, so I'm not in class from 8am till 3 pm. I am able to walk him when he needs to be walked, I am able to clean up after him when he has an accident in the house, and what my parents thought was strange was that I did it without getting mad at my dog. I see most other 14 yr old who own a dog (my half sister is 17, but doesn't think like most when it comes to this) and they haven't even thought about what they are going to do with their dog when they go to college...what would you do with a new dog in 4 years, wolfy? I have this planned out. My sister thinks she will leave him at our house and take off, but my parents wont let her. She has a BIG St. Bernard that is destructive and doesn't get enough attention. Besides, my 5 yr old sister wont understand that in four years, my sister is taking it back. If I had a schedule like yours, Wolfy, I wouldn't get a dog. It is such a large responsibility for a 14 year old who is home all day, let alone one who is not. Did I word that right? Maybe a cat...they are quite independent. If I was the owner of your dog and that happend, I know for sure that I sould have fought long and hard to keep that dog. Even if that meant paying to have that kid take a lie detector test or something. That;s just my oppinion, thought. You make the fact that you had to give your dog up sound almost normal.
  4. How do yo upost a picture here???[/url]
  5. Oh, wow, I think the Tri Color Cavalier is the most beutiful breed, too, atghylin! I have loved them for about 4 years...Last night I was showing my family a pisture of one and trying to convinse them that we should get one!
  6. That's a good question....did the police take it because it was abused? Or did you give it to a police training center...my friend did that...I want to get this story straight before I give you some breed ideas.....if you want to find mixes in your area, you can go to Petfinder.com, though....pure breds are hard to come across there, plus they have their shots, they are usually neutered, and you can talk to the animal shelter about exercise needs and such....but, WHY was the dog taken away?! That dosn't happen EVERY day...the way you write it makes it sound normal to you, Wolfy

    Training help...

I'd like to just let him be, but he still looks and acts like a young dog, and even if I take him for a LONG walk, he's still wound up, and that's the only way I have found that he is able to get rid of all that energy. Belive, me, I took him for a 5 mile walk, and he wanted MORE...Other than having 2 ear infections in his life, and having a lump or two on him, he still acts and looks like a 5 yr old dog. No joint problems, no hearing problems, no vision problems...people think he's younger than he is. Plus, training him has helped with his seperation anxiety issues...is there anything else that I might be able to do to relieve all the energy??? I'd LOVE to know what you guys think.
  8. Oh, wow, LisaLQ...you have Lurchers? I've never seen them in person, but I have seen pictures, and read about them....they can be pretty, when mixed with the right dogs. I have a Lab/Pointer mix. His name's Bishop :D

    Training help...

Hello, I'm new here...as you can see. I have an 11yr old, male Labrador Retriever/English Pointer mix. He hadn't been trained to do much more than sit, lie down, and stay fro almost 11 yrs. (It'll be 11 yrs in December) Now, I've been able to train him. I've taught him a few things including Heal, Sit-up, Speak, etc. But, he is quite stubborn, since he's never had to do anything other than the 3 things he knew. He will only retain the information when he feels like it, and I was wondering, is there any way to teach him to listen, and take the info in at all times? And, most important of all, follow the commands when told? Thank you SO much.
  10. Since it's just a sign of dominance, I bought my dog a harness and everytime he would pull me while on the leash, I'd pull him back with a quick jerk and would tell him DON'T PULL instead of heal. It caused him no pain what so ever and had quick results.
