It is a pack issue. The pyr is trying to establish herself above the pom. If you are ok with that then you can ease your troubles by showing the pyr that you as alpha accept and uphold it. That means that she gets your lap not the pom, she gets to go first before the pom at everything, etc. Or if you are not comfy with that then you need to stand firm in your establishment of the pack order and re-affirm it everyday. The pom should eat first, gets treats first, go outside first etc. Remember YOU are the alpha and you make these decisions, and they should not be left up to the dogs. I have 3 and had problems at feeding time. For months I sat on the floor between all 3 of them. When they finished eating they were not allowed to move, they had to sit until I released them. So they all had to wait until everyone was finished. Then Mary went out, followed by Stewie, and then Finny. You have to constantly re-inforce who fits where, as soon as you waiver the lesser dog will try to move up in the ranks. Now Finny has finally accepted he is last in line and doesn't give me any more trouble. You aren't specific as to whether Taz is male or female but I think another part of the problem may be female to female aggression. It is quite common in some breeds but I dont know about pyrs specifically. Might be something worth discussing with your trainer. You saw the fruits of your labor, I think maybe something in your behavior triggered it to start again. Last resort is keeping them seperated at all times. JMHO

I have had one of these for months and never did I think of these things. Now that you mention it I see the resemblance. My husband didn't say anything. It is the most coveted chew in our house as well. With 3 little dogs, that have big dog teeth it is a most valuable chew to us. Its lasted longer than any other toy we've owned. I think you all just need to get your mind out of the gutter :wink: :lol:

What about your water? Do you give them tap water? If you are near flooding areas it is possible your water quality has diminished and there is bacteria from a sewage spill. Maybe try giving them bottled water. Just a thought, not sure if it has been brought up before. I am so very sorry for all your troubles. I can't imagine how stressing it would be.

If the baby is not born yet play a tape of a baby crying so the dog gets used to the noise, and get out all the toys (rattles etc) and play with them to get the dog used to those noises. Carry around a baby doll and pretend to take of it like a real baby occassionally to introduce them to the concept. Once baby is born, take home something that smells like the baby before taking the baby home. When you go home, be sure to greet the dog without the baby (especially the mother) first. Give the dog time to settle and relax before introducing the baby for the first time. And just because it can't be stressed enough......NEVER leave them unattended!!

Hope it works out for you. I decided to move to something a little less maintenance and expensive then dogs.......fish! (Still have the dogs just dont need more!) I must admit I have become a fish addict. As of March I had 1 betta. Now I have 4 bettas, 3 swordtails, 1 molly and 3 guppies. I still have small tanks but someday I am gonna get a big one!! It fulfills my desire but isn't as much of a commitment.

Any of the large chains should have it. There are other formulas with different names as well. Basically it tastes horrible to discourage them from chewing. So you spray it on your shoes and when he licks it, blech!!

You might also like to get some bitter apple to keep him from chewing your most important things. Good luck. I had 3 puppies in 18 mo and I am officially over puppyhood!

Court, It really just depends on your area. I have a vet that is already following this protocol and has for sometime. Most states dont require rabies every year, even though most vets say they do. The vaccine has always said every 3 years and that is what the states go with. It is the vets that want you to do it each year so they can get yo $$. Kennel cough is the only one I do because it is actually required by most boarding facilities. All other places have been willing to accept a note from our vet stating the new protocol and their office procedures. If you just put your foot down about it, people will budge.

Just an FYI to some of the other posters. Mixing formulas or brands of dog food is generally not a good idea. Each food is formulated for a specifc nutrient ratio. When mixing foods you can really throw the ratios out of whack and subsequently your dog can get huge amounts of one nutrient and little to none of another. And I must agree with Newfie. Puppy food is pointless and can almost be detrimental especially to large breeds. Regardless of what your vet has said. Take some time and learn about dog food and make an educated decision. I'm very interested in this discussion. I use Nylabones but not the other two. I dont know what I would do with out nylabones. I have a tough situation cuz I have small dogs with big dog teeth. If you ever get a chance to check out the teeth on a jack you should, they are huge!! So even though I have small dogs I have SERIOUS heavy chewers. The galileo bones IMO are great. The pieces they get off are so small I dont see how they could do any damage but am always willing to be educated. I do give rawhide as well, never had any choking problems, but it does not last very long so I dont give it often. I understand the raw bones but my problem is that I cant give them to them in the house. I'd really rather not have raw meat drug all over my floors. What other options are there? Edit: Forgot to say that Bully Sticks are a big no as well. All of my dogs have gotten sick from them every time I tried them. Are they smoked?

You could try giving her 3V caps. They can be found at Drs Foster and Smith for about 8-10 dollars. Omega 3 & 6 are natural antihistamines plus it will help dry skin too. I have had great success with them. 2 a day for the first month, then 1 day per my vet.

Cassie, The committee idea is nice. Just thought I would let you know that there are companies doing things to change many of the things you mentioned. Take the "quick grow feeds" you mentioned. While most do still contain synthetic hormones, there are companies making and many farmers changing to natural additives that produce the same effect. It is metabolized b/c it is natural and therefore has little residual effects. Examples of these are Triptophan (the hormone in turkeys that makes you sleepy after that big Thanksgiving dinner) and Lysine. The same company also uses the same bio-chemical processes to make human food additives like riboflavin and xanthum gum. So there is some progress and that's a good thing. Even with a committee it would take a very long time to make huge changes. As for PETA, all I have to say is BOOOOOOOOOOOO!

In fact I have great respect for you. At one time I thought we had a fairly decent relationship. I didn't go to another board, I simply have been quite busy with little time for any internet activity. The one other board I did mention is a very small community of very close friends. As far as the family feel, I think that if you are part of the good click this is true but if you're not well its just not so friendly. I made two posts in an hour and have somehow managed to become quite a controversy. Because I am no longer a part of the family and now an outsider I am not getting the same curtosy I once did. I am really surprised to see how much people and the board have changed in the last 6 months. I have been reading many things that happened since I left. As an overall assessment (not just this issue but many), it seems to me that some can be very quick to assume ones guilt. It appears to me that some seem to be blinded by their cause. It is great to have a cause and fight for something/someone but it is important to remain grounded and keep perspective. It seems many have become jaded. I do not believe that it is your right or duty to go around trying to convince everyone how terrible someone/something is. I believe everyone has a right to their own opinion and opportunity to create their own opinion. I dont believe you all are wrong. I know my post thanking him was what started this. A long time ago we had intelligent conversations about pits and he changed my views on them. That has nothing to do with what he does with his dogs. I dont know what he does or doesn't do with his dogs, but I do know its not my business. And even if it were, the internet is not the place to do anything about it. So you can all take comfort that you are "right" and you can continue your sarcasm and rudeness. Or you can choose to take this opportunity to listen to an outside perspective about what is really going on here and take a little personal inventory.

Well, OK...his post appeared after I started my reply. However I do think that there is something for you all to learn about yourselves in this thread.

I am not RnP. It has been february or March since I posted here. Also I had a previous name of Marysmomma, but once I got 3 I wanted to acknowledge them all and there was no other way than to change my name. K can vouch for all of this. I dont particularly like liars, just dont think that there is any proof he has lied about something and is doing terrible things to his dogs.....beyond a reasonable doubt. Forgive me for being an american and believing that people have rights. There is no benefit to convincing me that RnP is.....a bad person? I'm not really sure what you all are saying exept that he has lied. We all tell lies on a daily basis, sometimes to spare feeling etc. Sometimes what appear to be lies are simple misunderstandings. I just thought it was a little over the top to crusade against him simply cuz I said that he made a big impact on my beliefs. In this instance he did something great and for that he should be commended. Plain and simple. There are terrible things happening to dog everyday probably in your own neighborhood. Why not use your time and energy to do something tangible. Edit: Please let me extend my deepest apologies to RnP for what this has turned into.

If it is about innocent dogs and not RnP or Pits, then you should be using this energy in your community to actually do something helpful. Talking a bunch of smack on internet helps no dogs.
