  1. That's a relief - you could tell he was getting really fed up with me saying 'no' and prising his mouth open to invesitgate every 2 minutes
  2. Fantastic
  3. 1 Old English Sheepdog
  4. I don't know why these people do things like this - don't they have any feelings at all for all the suffering they are putting on these puppies - it just goes to show that you should always trust your gut-instincts. Glad they got rumbled.
  5. Ever since I was 12 yrs old, I'v wanted an Old English Sheepdog called 'Rufus' (don't ask me why as I really don't remember  ) Since I got married we've always had rescue dogs and never changed their names but on Tuesday my husband and children got me Rufus as a surprise for my 40th. Rufus - aged 13 weeks and adorable Muttley - Collie X from rescue shelter - I think he was named after the cartoon dog - lived to 16 yrs Podge - Retreiver X from rescue centre - was exactly what his name suggests - lived to 15 yrs
  6. The last dog we had was 7 when he was passed to the dog rescue - the reason was that his owner had MS and could no longer give him the attention he deserved. He'd been at the rescue centre for 6 weeks and had not been homed as people felt he was too old - he melted my heart from the moment I saw him and we were lucky enough to have him for 9 yrs before he had to be put to sleep at christmas. We now have a puppy called Rufus and I know that Muttley would have loved him as much as we do already.
  7. Cassie - thanks for the link you gave me - I've learnt a lot today. Rufus done really well in his first 'real' training session today and now knows that when I say "here" he has to come to me :D I've got a small picture of him for now but will post some as soon as I work out how  He has one brown eye and one pear-blue but it looks pink in the pic - nevermind though, I still think he's gorgeous.
  8. The breeder from where we got our Old English Sheepdog had the pups housed in converted stables, sectioned off into kennels. He also had, Alsatians, Beagles, Jack Russells and Yorkshire Terriers
  9. Thanks for the great advice. I've only had him 2 days but have brushed him on both. I've also bathed him as he stank from the bed of straw he'd been living on in the kennel. I'm not going to be 'showing' him or letting him father other litters so I will be having his coat clipped regularly. I watched him with his sisters and he seemed to interact with them well and at the vets yesterday, he didn't seem bothered by the cats and dogs around him. The major concern that I have at the moment is the breeder informed me that he'd had his innoculations but whilst he gave me his pedigree papers, he did not give me the paperwork for his jabs. I queried this with the vet and was told that I should have been given the records. I've since contacted the breeder again and he got quite cross and said I did not need them. I don't think I'm going to be able to have any luck with the breeder but the vet has agreed to give him his first jab next week and then continue from there. This means that it's going to be some time before he can have more contact with other dogs and I hope it doesn't set him back at all. Of course it also means that he is confined to the back garden - time enough for playing the 'hide and seek' game you suggested
  10. I'm new here too and want to say 'thanks', my puppy keeps eating grass and I've been trying to stop him as I wasn't sure if it would harm him - what about the heads off daisies ???
  11. I've just got a 13 week old english sheepdog (I've had dogs before but never puppies and never this breed). Does anyone have any tips for me?
