So, its not okay for say a "bloodthirsty pit bull" to kill a rat which most people consider pests. But when their dog kills say, a squirrel or bunny its just "natural instinct?" The dogs could of course get dieseses, but people expect cats to kill rats and mice, can't they get dieseses too?

So let me ask this. What if you have a mix of two breeds that are normally cropped/docked? Like a boxer/dobe mix for example. Its in both standards, so is it okay then? Or not?

YOU ARE THE ANSWER "Good morning, may we help you?" That's how we start our day, "You won't kill them, will you?" are the first words you say. They're female, mostly female, nine in this litter, I gritted my teeth trying not to sound bitter. You bring life to us and briskly come in, The novelty now faded along with your whim. You smile as you offer what seems to be a present; We smile right back and try to be pleasant. Your "gift" is the third since our office opened, We're your last resort--but you were hoping for a miracle-- Nine people to rush in And choose one of the pups for a friend. Our hearts grow heavy--our souls quiet, sad-- You thought we would thank you and surely be glad. Glad to relieve your careless mistake-- Will you reappear in six months for another retake? Humane workers are desperate, weary, forlorn, Concerned for those that should not have been born. This is not what we want to be... Please understand; don't you see, won't you see? You have made us a slaughterhouse of goodwill, You must pause and consider just what we feel; The hurt that's inside because we care About those nine pups you have over there. Bouncy and cuddly and cute--so much more, But you only shrug as you walk out the door. You left them for us to make the decision--which ones will die, Which ones will go on living. Only one out of ten will be given a home; And for how long a time will she belong To a family who chooses, for whatever reason, To return her to us when she is in season? History repeats, for she will have been bred-- She trembles, it seems, with fear and with dread. The face of each worker can plainly be read. All of them know she will soon be dead. We feel that we love her more than you do. There are so many. What else can WE do? We're a shelter, a place for unwanted animals, Where everyone loses when so many gamble. You point your finger and say, "Oh, the shame-- You put them to sleep, so you are to blame." Little do you know how we try not to hate you, We strive with much effort to educate you. You didn't stay 'til the end; you did not see us weep When we had to take them and put them to sleep. "Euthanasia"-- a type of death by definition. Fewer births would be better; that's our declaration! Still you go on in your merry old way, Forgetting to soon and without much delay That YOU cause the problem; YOU are the SOURCE; You just won't admit it--of course! We give our best for the animals and for you, Although, the "thank-yous" are sparse and quite few. Love and concern carry us through every day, But we need YOUR help! There must be a better way!

I didn't at all mean it like you shouldn't have her, I just meant an accident isn't a responsible breeder. I have a pet shop puppy, and I was 8 as well so I couldn't exactly control how that happened.

ok having a dog that came from a responsible breeder and 1 that came from a shelter I can honaslty say that even pet store dogs deserve life heck the shelter Cinco came from had a whole room full of byb puppies that they rescued from the december cold and were nursing back to health. I think if Dahlila where to have health problems due to the breeding she came from it would have happened long b4 she turned 7 yrs old. Alot of people exchange #'s numbers with the breeder incase of questions but we didn't cuz we kept the vet she had the pups registered and everything was fine then and is now.
Isn't your dog a jack russel/shih-tzu mix? Sorry, she is NOT from a responsible breeder. No responsible breeder will breed mutts. She's just another backyard bred dog like the ori pei.
If she's a byb then how come she never planned on breeding and planned for her dog to get spayed while she was away and the dog stayed at the vets office? O and they didn't relize she was prgenant until shortly b4 the procedure. As from what the vet told us just a few yrs ago Dahlilas mother got fixed and Dahlilas litter was 1st and last. Infact Blacky(my old dog) breeder was irresponible vuz all he said was that the pups were lab/terrier and theres different terriers like pits and staffy's. Atleast the lady Dahlila came from knew all the facts like what breed she was and she also met the dad and got info on his genetics.
An accidental litter isn't a responsible breeder. Its an accident. If the breeder had purposly bred her, then yes she would have been a byb. A person can still be a byb and know about both parents and genetics.

I applaud good breeders. If there were no breeders there would be no dogs. Good breeders do not breed mutts though. And NO good breeder would EVER EVER sell to a pet shop. You did NOT in any way shape or form rescue a dog. I have a dog from a pet shop myself. In this case, I didn't know any better, and I was a child. But I realize now my mistake, you are still saying that you did a good thing. Yes, I would sacrifice the puppies in pet shops now to end puppy mills once and for all. Otherwise if people keep pretending that they are doing a good thing by buying these dogs and "saving" them there will be no end to puppy mills. It just has to be done, unfortunately it probably never will be. You should do more research on PETA. I can't think of one animal lover who supports their horrific acts. "Rescuing" hundreds of dogs in labs just to set them free, so they can die by getting hit by cars. Thats what PETA does to "help" animals. To them all domestic animals are brainwashed to be slaves. If you agree with PETA you shouldn't own animals, because thats exactly what they're against. I would never support them in a million years.

Why are you bringing up such an old thread? And you can say it as much as you want but the "ori-pei" is NOT a breed. It is a crossbreed, no better then any other cross breed out there because it has a fancy name.

Nice job, I like the second and last ones the best.

Congrats! He's gorgeous! I don't really see spanial but his coat/head is pretty fluffy so you may be right about the aussie. I'd say golden ret. if he was a bit bigger too.

I'm sorry you got attacked. Truly I am. That sounds like a horrible experience. But your wrong to label the whole breed as aggressive. ANY breed could have attacked your dog and then turned on you. These dogs were obviously attack dogs, not well trained family pets! Yes, they shouldn't be owned by just anyone, they need an owner who can teach them whats right. Dog aggression and human aggression are completely different things. These dogs just happened to be both. I have a dog aggressive dog who rolls over and licks any child she sees. Is she dangerous? In my opinion, no. I keep her away from other dogs, but let anyone pet her because it's different. Saying all akita's are aggressive is like saying all pit bulls are agressive. It's just not true, with proper breeding and training all dogs can be sweet loving family pets. Not matter the breed. A member on this forum has an akita who's a well trained sweet family pet from what I know.

Thats great news so far! I'm glad to see she's feeling better too.

I'm gonna start calling Chaos a "purebred village dog" now when people ask. She really dosn't look like any breed. I don't mind calling her a mutt, I really don't know for sure whats in her cept her body looks like a kelpie and her head often resembles a pittie head. So she's my little mutt. Personally theres nothing degrading about it, its JUST a label. Calling her a purebred village dog dosn't make her more "valuable" and calling her a mutt dosn't mean I love her any less because she's not "purebred"

Wow what a beautiful dog! If that's a rabies tag you can track the owner down by calling the vet that issued the tag and they should have the owners records. Thats what we did for one dog we found. He looks like such a happy boy.

With Pits on the brink of being banned here I rarely tell people what Chaos is mixed with. I'm hoping she dosn't look enough like a pit that people would recognize her as part. If they do get banned here I'll just call her a lab/terrier and hope it works so she won't have to be muzzled.

Searching for the perfect dog for my family.
Lucky Chaos replied to a topic in Everything about dogs
My dog Lucky fits everything you've described. Only he's a mixed breed, Border Collie and Golden Retriever. He's EXCELLENT with my little cousins, aged 10, 7 and 3. We own a cottage which we go up to every summer, he LOVES swimming and I haven't taken him on the canoe but he's good on the motorboat. At the cottage he has tons of room to run but he always stays close and never wanders. I would say try to find a mixed breed or young purebred with the characteristics you like. With a puppy, you could end up with a dog that hates everything you like to do. If you adopt an older dog you already know that its good with kids or likes swimming. A rescue organization will help match the perfect dog for your family, they know the dogs. -
I've seen Pits with blue eyes. Is there any chance she could have been, not lying but not wanting to say what her dog really was? I'm sure those of you out there who own pitties get a lot of rude people. Maybe she was just tired of that because she thought you may have been one of those rude people? Just a guess.

We have those despensers too, but they're empty except in the summer. Most of the owners at our park are pretty responsible. But every year someone organizes a "poo pickup day" or something. There's drinks and food, and contests. I think you win a prize if you pick up the most. :o Yeah its pretty fun actually, but it could be held more then once a year too, maybe every couple months. Your idea is a good one though, the second park I go too can get pretty gross sometimes. Not so responsible people there I guess.

I almost voted for the wrong lab! Luckily the dogs named and breed popped up before I did so another vote for Jake!
