1. RMOTFLMAO!!! You can pick up the poop in the house, just not in front of the dog!! I know this is what you truely ment to say, but thank-you for starting off my day with a laugh by what you did say!!! I think you got it fine!! Good Luck towards a poop free house!!! :D
2. Dogs and humans can get the same diseases. A few of the diseases that a human can get from a dog: Staphyloccocus aureus Streptococcus Pyogenes Worms Sarcoptic mange Brucella A truer statement would be that humans cannot pick up VIRAL infections from a dog, because they do not have the same receptors on their cells. The common cold would be an example of a virus.
3. I believe you are not supposed to let the dog see the can in your hand. It is supposed to suprise him out of nowhere, or you get the reaction you did.
4. I thought my opinion of the AKC couldn't get any lower, but I guess I was wrong. That is probably how all the setter people can justify it when they do a cross themselves. That is just awful.
5. If they mixed an Irish with an English, I don't think the AKC was aware of it, LOL. Rumour has it that there is a certain amount of mixing between the setters so breeders can adjust certain traits in their dogs. Such as crossing a Gordon Setter with an English Setter to get a dog that is not so stocky, but still looks like a Gordon, because the black and tan is dominant. That is why too much white on a Gordon is a fault. But this is all done under the table. The AKC would never approve of this, nor would any conscientious breeder. But then you have the field English (llewellyn), and field Gordons, that are really small, and your field Irish, which is really big. You have to know that some kind of cross breeding went on in there, and they still are registered as pure bred dogs, even though they look different, and could be branched out as a breed of there own.
6. I learned that mother dogs eat their puppies poop because dogs in the wild they want to get rid of any evidence that there are puppies in the area in case there is a predetor around. Also, eating poop is a way of recyling any nutrients that may be left in the poop, as dogs have short digestive tracts. That is supposedly why dogs eat their own poop. There are two ways views of dog training, waiting until your dog does bad and punishing him and setting him up to to good and praising him. The two views of poop cleaning represent this. Any attention whether negative or positive is accepted by a dog. That is why people that beat their dogs,( :x )still have dogs that come to them. And since dogs don't yell at each other as a form of punishment yelling is just confusing as they don't know why you are doing it. True dog punishment is being banished from the pack, like being tied up outside ( ) and ignored. Dogs do not assign value to things. They have no way of knowing that you spent $500,000 for that carpet. All's they know is that they felt bad when they had to poop, they pooped and now they feel good. And they know that you seem to be drawn to their poop. Now some people say, "My dogs knows he's been bad when he poops in the house--he cringes!" No, he knows you get psycho when you see poop, but he has no idea WHY you go ballistic. He also knows if his response to the situation is to cringe, you seem to calm down. So you still have a dog that poops in the house, but now you also have a dog that cringes. and if you called him to you before you went ballistic, now you also have a dog that won't come when called. Where, if you had ignored the poop in the house, but loved  the poop outside, that is where he would go to try and please you and get your attention.
7. Really????!!!! My dogs lick the carpet all the time! I never made a connection of them being hot!! Next time they do that, I will try and cool them down and see what happens. I thought they were just weird!! Thanks!
8. The reasoning behind not cleaning up in front of the dog is that the dog quickly learns that to get your attention in the house, all's he has to do is make a mess, and when you find it you will pay attention to something of his. This would be an opportunity to get you to engage in play with the dog, since you seem to be playing with his poop anyway :D ! If they see you outside cleaning up, they learn that by going outside, there is the chance of getting you to come outside with them and again, as long as you are paying attention to their poop, you just may be able to give them attention in other ways, i.e. play! So outside poop attention good, inside poop attention bad! :D
9. Border Collie's were breed to Herd?? I thought they were bred to play fly-ball?? JUST KIDDING!!! I agree, though. The AKC says it is not doing that, but in my opinion, with all this striving for a perfect "show coat" and "perfect" body parts, it could be generations before any breeder even know they bred out the dogs natural working ability. Just try taking a dog that has been out in the field and had it's hair ripped out by the underbruch into a show ring! I think the Europeans have it right. A champion should also have to prove his ability to still do the job he was breed to do AND be sound of mind before he can be a champion.
10. The AKC is just that, a club. It was started by people who wanted to get together and discuss their dogs. It started holding shows so that people with the same breed of dogs could get together and have their dogs criticed by an independent opinion. Now a days, the AKC has become so big, it has no idea who it is handing registrations out to. Heaven knows the sire and dame could be dead, but as long as a person has their registration papers, they can continue to keep listing puppies with the AKC. And people continue to buy them. Are these puppies "purebred"? Who knows. Dogs shows are controlled by professional handlers. Austrailian shepherd fought for years not to be recognized by the AKC. The only thing AKC recognition means to me is that there is more of an opportuninty to do neat stuff with your dogs (obedience, conformation, agility). But with all these new dog clubs springing up, because people are so upset with the AKC, there now are more opportunities to do stuff with your dog and other dog people that does not involve the AKC. Amen. I am absolutely in love with the Silken Windhound from Starcastles picture. I wonder if there might be a suggestion as to how I could see one in person???
11. I saw this picture where it was posted elsewhere, and I am hooked! What a beautiful dog. But checking out the websites on this dog, I thought it was a Borzoi/whippet mix? New breeds have to start somewhere, and if they aren't regitered by the mighty AKC, well then it will be their loss. I seem to recall that if you can trace a dogs lineage back so many generations you can apply for AKC registration. I can't remember how many.

Ther is also the Datura moonflower. Very beautiful, but highly poisonous. And it produces a seed that bird eat and spread in the wild. Try this website for toxic everything: http://home.hawaii.rr.com/wolfepack/Toxic.html Quite long if printed, 17 pages!!!

Food Mites!!!!!

I hate to really gross you guys out, but there are mites living just about everywhere! There are dust mites in your house, and there is even a microscopic mite that lives on your eyelashes! There is a 99.9% chance ther are mites on your keyboard!!! ok, I'll stop, but I don't know if I am really too concerned about mites in dog food unles I had a dog that was allergic to mites!
14. I don't really know why it works. I think it may be that the tea contains tannin, which may be the same chemical they use to tan cowhide with!!! I think I heard that somewhere before!
15. Sorry tiggerress, I did not know there was a second page :-? . I leave them as long as possible. I put them in a sit stay, and make them do a paw at a time. They just think it is some other weird training thing I have come up with!! My dogs do their best to tolerate me :D
16. Hopefully by now your dogs poop problems are under control :D , but in the future you might want to try adding a bit of canned pumpkin to his food to regulate his stools!
17. Thanks for the welcome guys!!
18. It seems to keep my Gordon Setter's feet from getting chopped up in the field, but maybe they have just developed tough toes! It is kind of hard to get them to soak.
19. Hi! I am new to this site! Hunting dog owners soak their dogs feet in brewed tea to toughen them up before going out in the field!
