What breed is my new puppy?

This little baby was dumped in our neighborhood. The vet thinks he is a shepherd mix but I am skeptical. He is about 14 weeks old, weighs just under 14 lbs, has hazel eyes and pointy ears a little smaller than a German Shepherd's ears. The vet doesn't think he'll get any bigger than about 35 lbs. Any ideas? Very playful, mischievous.

I don't know what she is, but she sure is cute! Check out pictures of cattle dogs. See if you think she has any of that look about her, but I have a cattle dog, so my eyes tend to think everything looks like a cattle dog, these days . . .
